Law enforcement, including SWAT, responded Tuesday to an apparent hostage situation at the Caesar Palace resort, officials said.

A police spokesperson said the situation is ongoing, and a man and a woman are believed to be in one of the resort’s hotel rooms. A window to the room was broken and objects were thrown out of it, while negotiators are speaking with the man.

Police received a report of a domestic disturbance at the hotel. When they attempted to make contact with the people in the room, a man refused to open the door and said he was armed, police reported.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Bureau Commander Stephen Connell said no shots have been fired by police or the suspect at this point, police said. The floor of the hotel where the room is located has been locked down.

My friend got an offer from Cosmo for a free room for F1.  We talked about it, but I think we're gonna wait for a couple of years before going to Vegas for the race so they have a chance to fix some of the problems.  The first one is gonna be a shitshow.

I think that is accurate. I was considering going with my dad and came to the same conclusion. Maybe we will try for year 2 or 3.

Greetings from Encore. Staying through Friday. Got a room on the north side, so no photos of the Sphere incoming. Besides, I’m an old and didn’t want the sounds of youth wafting up to the 58th floor.

Golden Steer did not disappoint last night.

Looking forward to Piero’s this evening.

Later in the week, in no particular order: a cabana, Javier’s, Bavette’s, a haircut and shave, Love, and so forth.

Onward, gentlemen.

Just curious, aren't those rooms going for five figures?  You think it will be that much of a cluster fuck?

It's not a room with a view of the Strip so we would have to get tickets for the stands.  Flights are pretty stupid also.  I think Southwest was $800 per person one way.  All of the casinos are having to close their main entrances and you won't be able to get anywhere you can't walk to.  It is 100% going to be a mess.

I experienced what an absolute Cluster F getting to the strip from the airport was on a random Sunday during the damn rock n roll half marathon.  I can't fathom what a cluster F the entire weekend is going to be.     You couldn't pay me to go.

I think they are going to have to close the sky bridges for long periods that weekend if not the whole time because you can't have pedestrians walking over an active race track.  That's going to limit even your walking options.  My friend always gets us very nice comped rooms at Cosmo, but is by no means a high roller.  I think it's a sign that demand isn't quite what they hoped if she's getting an offer for that weekend.

Marriott teaming up with MGM on new points program, replacing Hyatt

Interesting. MGM getting into Cosmo’s points, and Cosmo happening to be affiliated with Marriott. I wonder if it’s by chance? Seems a little more than random, but maybe not.

And F1 week (not just the weekend) will be a shitshow. Growing worse each day with various practices and qualifying events as well.

Taking the wife to Vegas on Saturday for her birthday to see Garth Brooks and staying at Caesars Palace.  What the hell is there to do all day in Vegas if it is 120 degrees out.  Also, going to go to Lotus of Siam for the first time.  Any recs on what dishes to get?

We just got back to the room from the pool. We spent just over 7 hours there. We get a cabana, eat breakfast in it, drink, go get in the pool for a while, go back to the cabana and drink some more. Have a snack. Repeat.

Of course, you don’t need a cabana, but it gives you some shade and a couch to lay on for a while. Hell, you can watch tv in there if you wanted.

If that doesn’t interest you, but art does, Area 15 is less than a 10 minute Uber ride away, and it’s an easy way to spend some time. Went there last year, started going through Omega Mart, and failed to realize we had been in there 4 hours.

Drunken noodles and garlic prawns for sure. Everything is delicious but you don't want to miss those 2.

I don't think so, been to several indycar and F1 races with temporary bridges over the track to get to the infield. I can't remember if it was 98 or 99 but The Grand Prix Houston we crossed over a bridge on the back straight to get in just as the cars were passing under us and the bridge had a slight sway, it was awesome.

Buy ya Vegas will be a shitshow that weekend, only way I would attend is VIP with helicopter from the airport to the hotel

Could be, but the difference is that those were people who paid to see the race.  This would be open to the public, not sure how that's gonna work.  Are they gonna let people stand on the sky bridges to watch the race who didn't pay to see it?

Depending on where you are staying you could rent a car right from your hotel, drive up to Mt Charleston and have lunch. It’s 45 mins away and 7,700 feet in altitude. Temps usually about 30 degrees cooler than the Strip. Pretty fun little summer trip if you don’t have other things to do. Link below.

My last trip I rented a Lambo for 4 hours and drove it out and around Red Rocks by Summerlin. Awesome time but not cheap.

You could go shoot machine guns. I think that is an indoor activity.

All the food is great at Lotus. My last trip I tried the red curry duck and it was fantastic. I think I get pad thai every time also.

Besides the usual options of air-conditioned casinos and pools/cabanas, here a couple ideas.  If you're into gangsters, the Godfather, Goodfellas, etc., the Mob Museum downtown is interesting . . . and air-conditioned.

Another option is to drive up to the Mt. Charleston area and do some hiking.  The drive doesn't take that long -- maybe 45 minutes or so from the Strip depending on traffic.  It will still be warm even at that elevation (7500+ feet), but it will be at least 20 degrees cooler up there than down in the valley.  (P.S.:  I see bigup2dahorns beat me to the Mt. Charleston rec.  Listen to that man.)

The recs others have given you re: Lotus are spot-on.

The museum is good. The underground bar on the premises is great. Must do if you're downtown.

I agree -- the museum is good.  And I forgot about the bar.  Has a speakeasy feel to it.  Convenient way to grab a drink and relax after going through the museum.

They'll just block off the view so you can't see the track from the walkway, but I doubt they close them off.  Would choke foot traffic to the entire Strip.

Vegas is one of my favorite places on earth.  I'll be watching safely from afar to see how big a cluster this circus is.

It's def a cluster.  Our taxi driver was none too happy about it.  Said he's leaving town during the race.

The Sphere nightly light show has probably done as much to fuck up traffic on the strip, especially northbound between Caesars and Wynn, than anything.

It’s utterly amazing to see people from 3 lanes over try to get into the single right hand turn lane at Palazzo to drive by the damned thing.  The taxi drivers at night are all bitching about the Sphere more than anything right now.  They concur the stuff necessary for F1 has been bad enough, but the turning on the Sphere at night has been bad as well.

The sphere just had the logo of the NBA Summer League when we were there.  Also, the Bellagio Fountain was out of order - at least when we were in the area.  I don't really gamble, so the highlight was the one bet I made on the giant wheel inside TI.  I won $68 on a $1 bet.  Figured I wasn't going to top that.  I was also almost murdered by a homeless guy, so that was fun.  Just kidding about murdered.  He just accused me of killing a guy in Denver, then followed us inside The Venetian for 10 mins.

We're taking my daughter back in December for finishing her MBA.

Tell the bum it was El Paso, not Denver
