It's a way to get rid of the the panhandlers and street musicians without appearing to target them I think.

This is the logical conclusion.

BTW what happened to the armies of people handing out strip club/hooker cards?  God that was annoying.

Any of you other degens thought about moving to Vegas?   It’s like half price Cali

I know a few people who have and love it.

I know some others who did and it didn't go well at all.

I think it totally depends on your lifestyle and discipline.  If getting involved in debauchery is an issue for you don't do it.

I almost bought a place in Panorama Towers right across highway from Aria. This was way back 2009-2011 when the real estate got whacked and nice condos were a deal. But i wasn’t going to move out there full time. I should have pulled the trigger could have made decent money and had a sweet place to stay.

No expertise, but they have to take a huge beating.  People just can’t not be complete animals in Vegas.

I have air bnb’d every year in Vegas for tradeshows since about 2005.  The value has plummeted.  Have ended up at strip casinos recently due to inability to find anything acceptable

As a consumer I think I would stay at hotels.  More convenient. Rewards card etc

Vegas from about Oct. 15 to May 15, and then somewhere at elevation (e.g., Mt. Charleston area) during the hot months would be a pretty nice situation, IMO.

I could handle a june or September annually

I loved air bnb for business travel(below specific to Vegas) that was about a week or longer.  5-6 years ago you could get a clean presentable 3/2 with a pool and hot tub for a couple hundred a night. Now its 5 to 6 hundred for worse quality.  Anything below 3 hundred a night is fucked up.  All the hosts are bitter and jaded.

Shorter duration is just as easy to hotel it.  I prefer cooking my own food versus constant restaurant dining.  Relaxing in your own space/pool/hot tub.

Fontainebleau is gigantic. It’s nice but it felt kind of sterile and empty last night. Odd crowd. Very high ceilings and a bright white and gold theme with more hard floors than most casinos. Komodo was good for dinner, kinda Asian fusion. We had edamame, sushi, dumplings, fried rice, Brussels, flank steak, Thai halibut, and Peking duck. All were good.

$24 nachos at the Fontainebleau sports book 🤣

I can't tell you how pissed off I would be if I had ordered that sitting in a sports book and it was brought out immediately. Waiting an hour... and then that shows up. Hell no.

I've been to Vegas probably 30+ times, but will be making the first trip there for March Madness on first weekend.  Will be with a small group who I don't think will want to spend morning till night watching the tourney, but will def want to catch some games and make some sports wagers in between playing in the casinos.  Home base is Bellagio.  Any tips from those who have done this before?

Complete shit show. My buddies and I quit doing it over a decade ago due to how bad it had become. Unless you've got a guy that can camp out all night or you're willing to put up $$$$ for a seat, you will not be getting a seat/table anywhere decent. It's easier these days to just go to a bar wherever you live and move in for the day while making wagers on your phone.

We did it a few years ago with a small group and didn't make any watching location reservations. Ended up one day at Tilted Kilt and wandering around from bar to bar and sports book to sports book another day. Tilted Kilt was packed but not bad. We were able to find a 4 top and the rest of the group used that to hold their drinks while they stood.

In hindsight I would definitely reserve a watch location for at least one day. Didn't really feel like I did it right just wandering around and ended up missing a lot of the action.

Slipped into STK at Cosmo tonight just before the crowd hit and it got hoppin. Expensive but pretty good, you’re definitely paying for the vibe. There are better restaurants in Cosmo but if you want a steak you could do a lot worse.

Coworker won four grand in 30 mins on bubble craps lol. He didn’t appreciate the tax form.

Had family out there back in the 90s, they loved it.  Have had thoughts of moving there but since the granddaughter(DFW)came to be that’s a hard no.  We haven’t been out there in close to 20 years probably barely recognizable to us now.

The serving is too small but that style of nacho where you individually top each chip is far superior to the pour out a bag a chips and pile on a mountain of glop style that most places degenerate into.

Got Pieros and Lotus on lock for the trip coming up. Lunches will be Din Tai Fung and Momofuku.

Have a solo night where I’m considering the bar at Zuma or Bavette’s, though I’ve done the latter a couple times. Anyone been to the former?

Glad I'm not there this weekend, but really curious what it will be like. So many of the strip hotel rooms will be occupied by NFL or NFL-adjacent employees who have strict no-gambling clauses in their contracts. Then cheap-ass Niners fans who are always in Vegas anyway. Kinda suspect there will be a lot of empty $50+ tables at the mid-range casinos.

I also think a lot of people fly out before the game on Sunday, which is unusual for a Vegas SB weekend.

Agreed - room offers were being mailed out pretty frequently for this weekend (by the mgm group at least), for the last couple months . So I suspect there was actually good supply of rooms available for the weekend.

Yeah, I got a super bowl offer from Cosmo also.  I think the big events like F1 and the Super Bowl cause so many of the resorts normal clientele to stay away that the extra people the event brings in can't as easily make up the difference as they hoped.  There's not quite as much of a demand as anticipated.

https://vegas.eater.com/2024/2/7/24064289/whataburger-open-las-vegas-strip-today-burgers-24-pizza-openings

Whataburger just opened its massive 2 story location in the Waldorf. Looks shares a space with that taproom so you can order beers, pizza, Whataburger, and watch sports all at once.

That’s pretty awesome, although jury is still out on taking in a big sporting event at a Whataburger.
