OU's new prez is not a fan of Boren's corruption (such as fake data reported to US News & WR rankings)

OU employs law firm to investigate misreporting of alumni donations during Boren tenure

Multiple sources connected to OU’s development department in Whitehand Hall, which oversees the production of alumni participation statistics, have confirmed that the university inflated the percent of alumni donors it reported to U.S. News & World Report over multiple years during former OU President David Boren’s time in office...

...U.S. News & World Report, a popular media outlet that produces an annual “Best Colleges” list by ranking universities on multiple criteria over the prior two years, uses a university’s alumni giving rate to determine overall alumni participation. This counts as 5 percent of a college’s overall ranking determination, according to the publication’s methodology.

In its most recent report, which reviewed giving for 2015-2016 and 2016-2017, U.S. News reported OU’s alumni giving rate as 13.8 percent.

However, university data obtained by The Daily shows OU’s internal numbers are different than those reported to U.S. News. According to the data, OU’s alumni giving rate per college for fiscal years 2015 and 2016 averaged at approximately 7 percent, roughly half of what was reported by U.S. News.

While it’s unclear whether this misreporting was intentional, The Daily’s sources say it’s been “an open secret” in the development department that numbers going back potentially as far as 10 years were inflated....

(OU prez) Gallogly to Boren: Cross me again, 'I will destroy you'

The relationship between OU President James Gallogly and his predecessor, David Boren, has crumbled amid threats and feuding over the financial status of the university and other issues, according to multiple sources within the university community.

Before he took office, Gallogly was critical of the university's financial status in a June 19 OU board of regents meeting. Boren countered with a letter on June 20 to the Transcript, defending OU's finances and stating a significant part of the university's debt was bonded debt with scheduled payments.

Following the publication of that letter on June 20, Gallogly told a senior OU administrator to deliver a message to Boren: “You tell him that I am the meanest son of a bitch he has ever seen, and if he ever crosses me again, I will destroy him...”

...Faculty and staff continue to be confused by Gallogly's actions, particularly as they relate to Boren, according to multiple sources. One faculty member, who spoke on a condition of anonymity due to their job at OU, said the OU community expected Gallogly to make cuts, but not minimize his predecessor's legacy.

“We knew that there were financial issues; we knew that we were going to get some kind of CEO-type,” the faculty member said. “What we did not know was how extremely negative this president would be, that he would kind of viciously go after the former president. Something has happened between them.”

According to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, Gallogly's attitude toward Boren has become increasingly antagonistic since June. Gallogly instructed the Stephenson Cancer Center not to install a plaque memorializing Boren's brother-in-law, Dr. Augustin Henry Shi V, who died in 2016 from cancer. Shi was treated at the Stephenson Cancer Center, and Boren, along with his wife Molly Shi, donated $25,000 to the center with the understanding the plaque would be installed in the center's lobby...

...(Boren) had long been criticized for swelling the ranks of OU's vice presidents with hand-picked friends.

Upon taking over as president, Gallogly began slashing administrative positions. Ten high-level administrators who worked under Boren retired, resigned or were laid off since July 1...

Right, except that's not the debate that been happening in Oklahoma.

Nonetheless, he's a shitbag for a whole lot of reasons, and fuck OU, so I don't really give a fuck except for the broader debate (or lack thereof) that affects the entirety of our state's education systems.

I have been there, vis Rick Perry & Co's Fantabulous Diploma Mill Contraption and it's (potential, now blunted) impact on the University of Texas. I just don't know if you know how much of an asshole you sound like when you basically say "I could say more but the unfair and unreasonable will Cloak Room it".

Sorry people are letting you down.

From March:

OU graduate alleges sexual battery by David Boren, Tripp Hall

From yesterday:

University of Oklahoma president announces resignation

...A former OU student, Jess Eddy, now 29, alleged he was touched and kissed inappropriately by Boren on several occasions almost a decade ago when the man worked as a teaching aide for Boren. Boren, now 78, has denied any inappropriate conduct in statements released by his attorneys. Eddy's complaint led to an internal probe by the university, and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation also has opened an investigation into the allegations.

Although the university's Title IX process for investigating sexual misconduct allegations includes a role for the university's president in the appeals process, Gallogly said because he is stepping down, a third party will be appointed to replace him in that role....

James Gallogly's retirement reflective of tumultuous relationship with David Boren, previous administration

Spoiler

When James Gallogly was announced as OU’s 14th president in March 2018, he lauded the accomplishments of his predecessor David Boren.

On Sunday, Gallogly cited perceptions of a negative relationship between him and Boren in announcing his plans to retire.

“Unfortunately, a false narrative has been created that the explanation of the university’s financial condition, the disclosures of improper gift reporting, and changes to various people serving in the administration were somehow intended to diminish the legacy of our past president,” Gallogly said in a statement. “That false narrative is now also being used to question the motives and propriety of the ongoing investigation of alleged misconduct by person(s) yet to be disclosed by the university.”

Less than one year after officially taking office, Gallogly has announced he plans to retire once a succession plan is in place. He spent much of his time as president focused on issues from a previous administration.

With investigations into sexual harassment against Boren, alleged financial disarray, and discovery of misreported financial numbers, many came to believe the two were in a feud.

At his first OU Board of Regents meeting acting as president in June 2018, Gallogly surprisingly espoused a different tone than he had been about staying the course on what Boren had built, and said the university was nearly $1 billion in debt and that he would prioritize the university’s finances.

On July 2, 2018, when Gallogly officially took office, he fired a number of Boren’s top lieutenants including university CFO Nick Hathaway. In November, the university also removed Boren associates Tripp Hall and J.P. Audas from their positions within OU’s Department of Development.

In December, The Daily reported the university had contracted the Jones Day law firm to investigate if OU had misreported donation data to U.S. News & World Report’s college ranking list under Boren’s administration. The university discovered numbers had been inflated.

Gallogly denied there was any public feud between him and Boren after The Norman Transcript reported in December that Gallogly had threatened Boren during the transition, something Gallogly denied vehemently.

In February, media reports revealed the university was investigating allegations of sexual harassment against Boren. Throughout the investigation, Gallogly and the OU Board of Regents at every turn emphasized the fact Gallogly was not directly involved with the investigation.
