Nsiap. Border Patrol tested the wall prototypes with common tools and successfully cut holes in steel slat barrier. This info is excluded from report but obtained by NBC news. All the cost of the this gov shutdown plus 5.7 billion for something that will just be sawn through.

NBC News: In test, steel prototype for border wall was cut through with saw.

And they haven't even tested ladders yet.

Isn't the link to that plan still live?  Didn't someone post it on here just a day or so ago?  They were going to halt all western union transfers to Mexico ($20-odd Billion a year) until Mexico wrote a one-time check of $5-$10B.  That was it.  That was the plan.

Yes, it's still live. I'm the one that posted the link to the plan a few days ago.

The real clucterfuck for Trump is that he said he would take the blame for the Shutdown.  You simply cannot walk that shit back.  It's one thing to continually lie and mischaracterize meeting when nobody has video.  It's another to try and flip the script when you say you will be PROUD to shut the government down.  Only a moron is proud to fuck over the government.  You might regret that a shutdown is necessary, but "proud?" Dumb words, from a dumb man.

Now the only solution for the dumb man is to falsely declare a national emergency... just like banana republic dictators have done for years....

There's  not insignificant set of Trumpkins that are tickled pink by the shutdown. The longer the better, and if it results in civil unrest, they are ready to grab their AR 15s and "take their country back"* In fact, I'd bet a big chunk of them fantasize about it.

*Of course they are mostly giant pussies who will do nothing of the sort, but that's what the (probably Russian created) memes are saying.

At least they are learning.  They are acting like they are aware of Art III, unlike the fucking Muslim ban where they didn't seem aware that anyone might say "'scuse me.  you can't discriminate on the basis of religion.  i read that somewhere."

Trump is stupid enough to do this, and the GOP ought to be scared shitless if he does.  Imagine a future President Kamala Harris declaring a national emergency  on gun crime and curtailing the Second Amendment.

Whatever is left of the NRA ought to be begging McConnell and the boys to try to get Trump off the ledge.

This administration's use of the word "humanitarian" makes me fucking ragey.

They split up families, establish concentration camps, let kids die in squalid conditions, and then have the audacity to declare this PR circus a "humanitarian crisis".

I think I'll start rooting for SkyNet at this point.

It's spectacular.  You know how the Trumpkins respond to any alternate political theory with "you're a socialist, you wanna turn us into Venezuela!"  Fucking morons.  The lot of them.  We already ARE Venezuela.

Quote

In the 40-minute speech in front of a sparse U.N. audience, Maduro said his country was being attacked economically and politically and also by the media.

Quote

But Maduro countered on Thursday that things will get better once he wins another six-year term. “As soon elections are over, I guarantee you a new stage of economic prosperity,” he said.

Quote

Maduro, who is facing efforts by the Venezuelan opposition to oust him, has blamed the country's financial woes on a U.S.-backed "economic war" carried out by political enemies and corporations. To combat the alleged "economic war," Maduro has taken steps including ordering the military to seize five ports as part of "war strategies" to more effectively distribute food and medicine.

Trump is Maduro, Maduro is Trump.  It's not about political ideology (hell, look at Russia -- lurching from communism to kleptocrat authoritarianism with a right-wing bent -- it ain't about left or right).  It's about authoritarianism.  Communism, socialism, fascism -- they are costumes.  Worn by authoritarians.  Pull off the masks, and you see the same villain under all of them.

You forgot capitalism.

It’s human nature to subjugate others and it’s human nature to be subjugated.

The institutional structures we built to defend ourselves from tyranny have largely crumbled due to complacency, corruption, and the idea that the only threats to our liberty came from afar.

Mistakes were made

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) is looking to propose that the govt pay essential govt workers but continue the shutdown over negotiation for the wall.  https://madison.com/wsj/news/local/govt-and-politics/ron-johnson-backs-border-wall-funding-for-essential-government-functions/article_0c93fa1a-76d7-5b95-a3cf-70107fa8a951.html

Schumer and Pelosi should laugh at that proposal.  Basically Johnson is proposing that we limit the pain to everyday Americans so Trump and the GOP can add to their leverage to build the wall.

When US airports start to shut down, or people don't get their tax refunds, this issue will be settled tomorrow.   The sooner we get to that the better.   I wish the TSA agents would walk off the job this afternoon.

So if he declares a national emergency, which is seeming imminent, it goes to court and they tell him to get fucked (presumably) and no wall money still right?  Doesn't that kind of backfire on him?

I think that is a win for him, given the circumstances.  He can at least say he tried, tell people he needs more conservative judges, lets keep fighting.

It also opens the door for the next Democratic president to find a whole mess of national emergencies.

I'm thinking guns.

Texas drinkers beware: Government shutdown hits beer, wine and spirits production

Ok, fuckers, now it's on! Fuck TSA and all, but don't dare touch my booze.

The 2011 Minnesota government shutdown ended shortly after it was determined that the department that issued licenses for alcohol sales would stop issuing all permits after a certain day. Things were resolved shortly.

I still don’t think he’s going to declare a national emergency.  That’s a tactic to increase the intensity of the distraction.  He wants to keep this going, declaring a national emergency would end it.  Again, this is a loyalty test and media cover from the treason.

Right, so how does the shutdown end?  Or does it?

In theory, the way things are today, it never will.

In reality, the senate R's are gonna cave at some point.  McTurtle will allow the House bill to come for a vote, it will pass....then head to Trump.

He will probably veto it, and then it comes back to hopes that the senate and the house both have 2/3 majority to override the veto.

At that point, who knows.  Our economy will plunge instantly, you will have mass walkouts among government employees who are deemed essential, airline traffic will essentially ground to a halt, on and on.  All the "shit" that no one notices until it's not there will rear it's ugly head, and the media will have a field day.

And then the Rooskies hack the power grid and within 48 hours its armageddon.  Well this is all very sophisticated.

Speaking of, imagine the PR shitstorm if a plane crash happens:

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/business/tourism-cruises/article223864750.html

Quote

Federal aviation safety inspectors haven’t been inspecting anything for the last two weeks because of the government shutdown. Deemed nonessential workers, the inspectors say they’re anything but.

Holding signs saying, “Was your airplane properly repaired and inspected today? The FAA does not know!” at Miami International Airport on Thursday, inspectors spoke with departing airline passengers about what they say is a heightened risk of aviation accidents because of their absence.

“My job is the safety of people,” said Charles Banks, 50, a veteran who has worked as an FAA safety inspector for 15 years. “I have family flying too and I can’t protect them from here on the curb.”

Quote

Contrary to their TSA counterparts, safety inspectors have little interaction with travelers. Instead, they work behind the scenes inspecting plane repairs, reviewing pilot work, helping flight attendants with unruly passengers and investigating accidents. About 80 inspectors work at MIA and Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, Banks said, along with a larger administrative staff. Airline companies do their own inspections and reviews, but according to the furloughed inspectors, no one is currently overseeing those companies.

“We are another layer of safety,” said Troy Tomey, 52, who has been an inspector for four years. “We’re the last check of the box. Taking us out of it, mistakes can happen.”

An FAA press release from Dec. 22 — the first day of the government shutdown — said “there is no impact to safety or FAA oversight for travelers.” Furloughed inspectors disagree. On Dec. 21, the day before the shutdown, a Korean Air cargo plane’s wing collided on the ground with a Tab cargo plane’s tail at Miami International Airport, damaging both planes. Tomey said he and his team identified damage that one of the airlines didn’t originally report to the aircraft manufacturer, which was in charge of repairing the planes.
