Smdh.

Yeah, I know a dude that reported the income from his hobby job instead of his day job so he could live in a subsidized low income unit in a downtown loft. 5 years later and he's irate at all the socialists trying to make hard workers pay for leeches

I know this isn't news to most of us, but it remains critical to post the truth to counter any idiotic insistence on a 2,000-mile-long wall.

For Seventh Consecutive Year Visa Overstays Exceeded Illegal Border Crossings

As the Trump administration demands funding for a border wall to stop illegal immigration, a new study finds that for the seventh consecutive year, visa overstays far exceeded unauthorized border crossings.

The report released Wednesday by the Center for Migration Studies of New York finds that from 2016-2017, visa overstayers accounted for 62 percent of the newly undocumented, while 38 percent had crossed a border illegally.

"It is clear from our research that persons who overstay their visas add to the US undocumented population at a higher rate than border crossers. This is not a blip, but a trend which has become the norm," said Donald Kerwin, CMS's executive director in a statement. "As these numbers indicate, construction of hundreds of more miles of border wall would not address the challenge of irregular migration into our country, far from it."

The study also finds that the undocumented population from Mexico fell by almost 400,000 people in 2017 and that since 2010 the number of undocumented from that country fell by 1.3 million.

"We have made tremendous progress since the year 2000 in reducing undocumented immigration into this country," the study's author, CMS senior fellow Robert Warren, told NPR.

Warren was the Director of Statistics at the Immigration and Naturalization Service from 1986 to 1995. He said that both the Bush and Obama administrations had roughly doubled the size of the Border Patrol and the country has seen results.

"In another era, we would be celebrating our success," said Warren.

The study also finds that in 2017, for the first time, the unauthorized population from Mexico constituted less than one-half of all the undocumented people in the U.S.

At the same time, Mexico was the leading country for visa overstays in 2016, "about twice the number from India, China and Venezuela," according to the study. The number of undocumented people coming from Venezuela, which is wracked by political and economic turmoil, increased from 60,000 in 2013 to 145,000 in 2017. Virtually all are visa overstays.

"Since more than one half of all US undocumented residents arrive by air, visa-issuing posts have become the real frontline deterrent to undocumented migration," the study concludes. "This report suggests that more attention and resources should be given to that crucial mission of the US Department of State."

Democrats will be sure to remind them.

Democrats attack campaigns are lukewarm at best. Beto ran a campaign how a campaign should be run in an ideal world. Ted Cruz’s ran a campaign to win. Going negative, making fun of his dick, ugly wife is modern political campaigning.

If I were campaigning against Cronyn I would have him on an ang Lee gay cowboy commercials. I would poke fun of his fake ranch, pressed jeans, polished saddle, waxed old truck and show how he really lives. I would let him know that I hear rumors that he is a Mexican donkey fluffer.

Well just in case you wondered how grossly incompetent the Trump administration is they only missed the cost of the shutdown by half...  Apparently "only the best people" only counted the cost of the actual government workers not receiving checks, when they said the shutdown would cost the economy from .05 percentage points per week.  Now that they actually did a little freshmen economics research they included the cost of not paying government contractors.  So the updated number is .13 percentage points per week. only missed it by a factor of 2.6.  So whenever you hear a "Fact" from the Trump administration take it with a huge grain of salt. Because they are so often wrong, it's notjust that they lie about the truth> But sadly the Trump administration can't even figure out what the truth is. Incompetence at it's finest. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-administration-admits-shutdown-costly-expected-214647682.html

The fact that this wall was not an urgent issue until the Dems were there to blame tells all.  Sadly most GOP leaders do not believe in the cost effectiveness of the wall.  But they are simply very willing to harm the American people, because a child in the Whitehouse threw a tantrum. No emergency, just poltical bullshit. But it's for me to overhear the stupid at assorted bars and restaurants actually believing the DEMS were the ones that shut the government down.  I don't have the heart to tell the idiots this isn't true,  becuase well... idiots are a hard group to inform...

Just received this email from Senator Starched Jeans:

Dear DDD Dad:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the current operations of the federal government. I understand the importance of funding programs that support our national defense and protect our borders, and I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this important matter.

A partial federal government shutdown creates further uncertainty and instability in the economy. I am eager to end the partialshutdown and move ahead with the fiscal and economic reforms our country so urgently needs.

In 2018, Congress enacted five appropriations bills that provide funding for 75 percent of the federal government agencies in Fiscal Year 2019, including the Departments of Defense, Energy, Labor, Health and Human Services, among others. However, on December 22, 2018, funding for certain federal agencies lapsed due to disagreements over funding levels for important border security priorities, resulting in a partial federal government shutdown.

I share the frustrations of many Texans, and I will continue to work with my colleagues on a path forward to end this partial shutdown. It is my hope that an agreement can be reached quickly to reopen the all federal agencies, while strengthening security at our nation’s borders.

I am honored to represent Texas in the United States Senate, and I will keep your views in mind as the appropriations process moves forward. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

JOHN CORNYN

United States Senator

A lot of words saying basically nothing.

My response:

Senator Cornyn,

I'm not sure I understand your frustration.  You and the Republican Party are in the unique position to end this shutdown today, simply by bringing to a vote a host of bills submitted to the Senate by the House since the new Congress was seated.  Or, the majority of the Senate, undoubtedly joined by the entire Democratic members, could bring to a vote the same bill they approved by acclamation in December.

The only things preventing an immediate end to the shutdown is President Trump's stated unwillingness to sign any bill that does not include over $5B for additional wall funding, and your Senate Leader's refusal to bring any bill regarding reopening the government to a vote.  Democrats and Republicans agree that funding for border security is necessary and have agreed to that; they simply disagree to additional funding strictly for construction of a wall that would not be an effective means of increasing border security.

I urge you to cease writing platitudes regarding looking forward to resolutions while doing nothing to in fact resolve anything.

The voters (I was one of yours) are watching.

I don't know 'stache, I guess I'm a hopeless optimist thinking that people are waking up as more new stuff comes to light.  I guess I just care too much.
Or maybe I'm the mouth breathing simpleton for thinking there's more than a sliver of truth to the deluge of information that continues to pile up re: Trump/Russia/headed to hell in a hand basket.  I know I'm swimming upstream in the industry I work in and area I live in.

Russia? Fake news bro. Rigged witch hunt. Hannity ses so.

No kidding.  Hey, I assume (and fully expect) that, but at least it's forcing someone to read it.  If 10,000 other voters wrote similar notes eventually someone might bring it to his attention.

I imagine if the Soviet Union won the Cold War in 1989 and we were currently running a Trump operation on the massive USSR, we’d be all up in their shit on our domestic cable news.

Americans have a really hard time empathizing with the Russians’ hatred for the United States.  They’ve been blaming us for all their problems for 20+ years.

That's a long way to say "it's clear that the GOP is a conspiracy aligned against the United States."

To be fair, NYTimes had an article about a Texas Congressman who has stood rigidly against Trump's wall because, get this, he (1) actually is from a border town and knows the wall is a stupid way to ensure border security, and (2) considers his constituents his "boss" and not the GOP leadership.

And see what the GOP base has to say about him. "RINO" is about the NICEST thing they say.  There's no place in the party for men like Hurd.  Here's just a sample from his page:

Quote

Eric Bateman Will, You came to my front door and spoke to you personally. I voted for you. I will not vote for you again if you stay on the wrong side of the Wall issue. God bless.Michael Grossman. Greg Allen

Greg Allen Eric Bateman DO YOUR DAMN JOB AND VOTE FOR THE DAMN WALL!!

Jason Lavallee You are a disgrace to the nation and clearly the domestic enemy the oath warns of. RINO scum literally fighting to allow foreign invaders in to help you destroy. Shameful.

There's no saving the GOP.  There's no saving its supporters.  There is only opposing and defeating them.  Completely, totally, in every way, at every turn, at all times.  Calls for compromise are folly at best, treachery at worst.

The irony is Trump is by far the biggest RINO of all time.

Exactly. The GOP, as a party, completely flip-flopped on MAJOR issues in order to support Trump. They abandoned their foreign policy platform, their economic platform, and total abandonment of Family Values and Christian Values.

lol Even Russian TV knows Mitt can write all the concerned articles he wants and take shots at Trump’s character but he’s still complicit with Trump’s bullshittery with his votes.

Makes me madder at him then the other toads on that graphic.

At least those dead eyed motherfuckers ain’t hiding their intentions.

We did drop the ball after the Soviet Union collapsed. We thought it would be more fun to chest thump and rub their noses in it than to actually spend the resources necessary to align Russia with the west.

Can we please stop sucking Will Heard's dick so much?

Yeah, he's against the wall. Give the man a cookie. Whoop de fucking do. He was also for more roads in Big Bend National Park, despite that fact that Border Patrol and the Park Service Rangers said that more roads in Big Bend would be useless for border protection, and an environmental disaster.

What has he said about collusion? What has he said about the orange piece of shit? What is his voting record? How did he vote on the tax cut? What are his views on immigration in general? How furrowed was his brow on separating kids from parents at the border?

He would put you people in a camp if he could.

He is not, as his staff readily acknowledges, inclined to broadcast his perspective or obsessively rope in votes for his cause. He has not sought opportunities to directly lobby the president to endorse the technological barriers he has envisioned. (Mr. Hurd noted that the “key players” are all cognizant of his position.)

Fuck Will Heard.

I don’t know.  Something went wrong in the Clinton years with Borris Yeltsin to allow a guy like Putin to rise to power.  We dropped the ball in those years.

Hindsight is 20/20 and anything we might have done would have likely been undermined eventually.

Fucking Russians
