Checking in from the front lines of battle to report that the TSAprecheck line was open and took 5 minutes to get through security. Rumors of precheck and Mark twains death have been greatly exaggerated.

Meanwhile, my wife's department has a office in Corpus that is extremely short handed due to retirements, promotions, etc that happened before the end of 2018.  So short handed, they are asking for any volunteers from other offices if they want to go to Corpus to help out in the interim.  Problem is, because of the shutdown, no travel funds are authorized and using a personal card for travel, meals, a hotel/apartment is frowned upon.  Plus, even if you could use a personal card, you aren't getting paid back until this is over with.  So the Corpus office is just screwed over for now.  Those existing employees can just work 16 hour days.

So, just fuck off with your observations, bitch.

If it lasts until April, I know one federal worker that in all probablity will have resigned by that time.

If it lasts until April, the economy will crash.  People going hungry and without medicine.  Dogs and cats, living together...mass hysteria!

I don't really see what the SOTU is a bargaining chip here. There is nothing that says it has to be delivered in oral form to a joint session of congress in the House chambers. Pick your own venue, invite members of congress to attend, afterwards deliver the same in written for to the leaders of both chambers. Move on.

It’s driving him up the wall that a woman Democrat told him he couldn’t give a speech where he wanted to.  He’s the Presidents of the USA!  He thinks he can go anywhere.

Maybe so. But why does McConnell want it to continue?

When the shutdown began my big question was, “Why aren’t the republicans working harder to protect Trump from himself in this obvious disaster?”

I don’t think McConnell wants the shutdown to continue but it’s not all bad for turtle.

Cocaine Mitch can’t break with Trump yet and risk Dotard turning on him. He can’t allow it to get so bad that his majority is threatened either.

There’s so much time left on the clock for the Republicans to recover by election time.

The republicans are fine with allowing Trump to keep publicly hanging himself.  They hate that orange motherfucker more than democrats I’d imagine.

It will make their inevitable break from him that much easier.

Yep, voters are definitely going to forget. 🙄

I’d be willing to bet the Trump administration gave them shit for saying all of that, maybe even threatened their careers, but I give them credit.  It took guts to say that, and it had to be hard as hell to swallow their pride and admit that things are that bad.

I laugh when I see you keep repeating this line. Trump IS the GOP. I think you're crazy, but I guess we'll see.

Trump drops dead tomorrow, where does the GOP go?

The GOP survived Watergate, they survived starting two catastrophic wars in the last decade.

They will survive Trump.

Meanwhile State TV becomes official

Ex sister-in-law is an air traffic controller at Seattle-Tacoma Int.  She said that there's a rumor that air traffic controllers are going to call in sick in Atlanta in the middle of next week, shutting down the largest airport in the world just in time for the Super Bowl.  Two of her co-workers have taken retail jobs in order to make ends meet, so they're coming in to work dog tired.  She says there is a lot of desperation now.

Seriously, the TSA agents need to shut down ATL the weekend of the Super Bowl.

Meh.  TSA only works on departing passengers.  It wouldn't disrupt the super bowl even a little bit.

Yeah, I'm talking about Saturday and Sunday when Radio Row departs. Then Monday when everyone else tries to get out of Atlanta. You think the NFL media won't report how they can't get out? My bigger hope is they all call in sick Monday after the game and cripple the airport.

I laugh when you post this kind of stuff. It is bad for Turtle.  Large companies that rely on government contracts aren’t getting paid.   You think they’ll be keen to send their lobbying bucks to Turtle in 2020 during his primary or general?  This shit is taking money out of their pockets.

And there’s tens of thousands of Kentuckians and their families who are impacted by this.  You think they won’t remember this crap?

Half a million people in Kentucky qualify for SNAP.

And just wait until the government starts prosecuting Coast Guard personnel when they go AWOL to take work and feed their families.  Is Turtle going to be jacking off over the election consequences of starving Coasties being arrested?

You think the Dems won’t use that imagery in 2020?

And there’s no way tax refunds are going to all get out, not if they keep allowing more and more IRS personnel to stay home.

Just because you don’t have a regular job and deal with taxes or SNAP or being forced to work without pay doesn’t mean millions of people are going to magically forget this in 18 months.

It’s almost like people are upset that airports aren’t doomed or backlogged 3 hours or whatever that initial (wrong) report was from Atlanta. Serious question, do you guys want civilian travelers to be put out as some kind of point being made?

Nah. People are missing a second paycheck on Friday. The point is being made loud and clear.

This is how you implement authoritarianism

This is how you destroy the GOP.

These are the actions of a group of people who are scared of something, scared so much that they will give the Senate and WH away in two years to protect something right this moment.

You’ve been dead wrong with this line of thinking so far going back to the beginning of the shutdown.

You don’t appreciate the stranglehold the GOP has on their voters.  McConnell has made a career out of getting people to vote against their own interests.

The Dems can use whatever imagery they want in attack ads and it will only make McConnell look like a victim of political hit jobs.

I can take a page out of your playbook and not give a shit if civilian travelers get put out because I'm not flying out of Atlanta.

The only way the morons on the right cave in this ridiculous shutdown is if normal people start feeling the pain the unpaid government workers are feeling. When average Joe gets mad and fires up the Congressional switchboard, we might see some movement or at least enough public shaming for them to throw in the towel.

So as long as you’re not inconvneienced, the hell with govt workers not being paid?    As already said, the fastest way to get this shutdown over is WHEN average Americans feel some pain.  I just hope we don’t experience a problem where people get sick (lack of food safety) or god forbid die (plane crash.)

on a side note you know that trump is pissed at stephen miller for getting him into this border wall shutdown.   Sure trump spoke about the wall for years now but he was happy with it as a talking point with little progress.   He was talked into this by others like miller and coulter.

If they have such a strong stranglehold on their voters, then why are they scared shitless of going against Trump voters?

You really do believe the Republicans won’t bail when it starts severely impacting their lives, or the lives of their families, but I’m watching these scenarios playing out with family and friends - MAGA hat wearing Trump supporters who lose their enthusiasm once it hits them in the pocketbook.  People who were proud MAGA types - I’m seeing plenty who are now quite sheepish about it.  That’s not good for Trump, and the polls are reflecting it.

The Dems don’t have to peel many away, and I think that’s where you are losing sight of everything.  The Dems flipped four states a few months ago that trump probably won’t be able to flip in 2020.  Or at most, he flips one. But he’s got problems with NC, Georgia, and Florida.

Don’t buy into Trumps hype. The voters spoke a few months ago, and he’s only made things worse for himself since then.  Much worse.   .

FWIW, there are plenty of Dems who vote against their personal economic interests.

True, but most of the time they are voting to raise taxes, redistribute wealth, and strengthen the social safety net, so I think most of them know they are voting against their personal economic interests.

Maybe not, though.

Indeed.

If this shit ain't fixed, civilian travelers could die.

TSA and air traffic guys need to shut the whole fucking system the fuck down.

He's taken 800k people (really, many more than that -- contractors, all of their families, and everyone who depends on gov't services) hostage.  Now, we're at the point where he starts killing individual hostages.  Do you give into his demands NOW?  What about when he kills the next hostage?  And the next?

Nope.

You stand fast.  And as necessary and able, you do this:

That's a good suggestion, but I think he ended up losing to Duncan Hunter.

I’ve been very consistent.  This ends with mutiny in the Senate.  We’re still nowhere close to that because of Trump.

You keep thinking it’s upcoming elections or money they’re worried about now, they’re not.

They care about one thing, their current power.

Consolodating and holding it through this crisis.

People are going to die because of this, maybe a lot of people.

Trump is intentionally burning down the government and turtle is fine with it because Mitch’s alternative is politically worse.
