Is Cornyn actually showing a bit of sense now that he isn't in the senate leadership?

No. He wants very badly to be Senate Majority Leader and of anything will be more aggressively partisan going forward.

Seriously, the "let them eat cake" asininity of this admin -- coming from MULTIPLE sources -- is astonishing.

The fact that they're collectively downplaying suffering of federal workers is a tell that they know they're arguing from the foundation of a rotting crotch.  "They could get loans.  Carpool.  Call Dad or Uncle Randolph Mortimer IX.  Uh, it's called a dividends allowance account?  Tell your landlord to chill."

"Offer services in exchange for reduced rent."

Because landlords are DYING to take less money from you in exchange for a sloppy porn bang.

NBC says McConnell "Summoned" Schumer to his office after the Pelosi Bill got more votes than the Trump Bill.

Bitch is going to cave.

Doubt it.... He's not getting any heat.  Trump is, Mitch isn't.

Also somewhat surprised one of Georgia's senators voted for the CR (Isakson). He isn't up for re-election in 2020 but Perdue, the other one who voted not, is. Probably not going to matter in any way at all what with Kemp being the fucking governor now.

"only if it includes a downpayment on the wall."

Nope.  Nothing.  Your tactics.....

If you want to re-open the government and then have an adult negotiation, we can do that.  Rewarding a tantrum is a non-starter.

This will be over soon.

so they are all just going to let this be the longest shutdown in history for literally no reason at all and lose all credibility as lawmakers? Sure I will believe it when I see it.

Nancy Pelosi broke him. The Democrats won. He's not getting a wall. He's getting border security.

You can't lose what you don't have.

The trumpkins love this. Republicans have everything to gain by continuing this and everything to lose by ending it. Trump has dug himself into a hole and, as usual, his idiot worshipers are loving it. This will never end.

This is going nowhere as long as Mitch is majority leader. This dude takes a huge amount of pride in being the asshole. Did anyone read the long AF piece on him in the NYT Monday?

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/22/magazine/mcconnell-senate-trump.html

I'm more in line with this thinking - I hate that it's the reality of the situation, but there's no way at this point where I can believe they just say "lol okay we give up" it would be such a shitstorm - I believe there is some relief that reopens govt in a partial way that happens (Dept of treasure and homeland security)

The senate republicans just showed their loyalty to Trump by vote.

It’s entirely up to Trump to end this and the Republicans have no interest in stopping him.

#TRUMPSHUTDOWN 2020

Nope.

The hard thing is going to be standing strong when shit REALLY hits the fan.  When he starts killing hostages, metaphorically.  But that's when you have to stand firm more than ever.  Do that, and him killing hostages is the dominant story.  He destroys himself.

And yes, we the people are going to suffer some horrific damage.  That die was cast the moment the terrorist took the hostages.  That's reality.  Now, our role is to wait till the terrorist fucks up and gives us a kill shot.  He's working on that....

Yup.  The longer this goes on the more they can break government.  Their claims that government fucks everything up.  Well, once all the competent government employees leave their government jobs and take all the institutional knowledge with them, leaving a government filled entirely of trumpkins and people incapable of finding other work after working months without pay, well, we'll have that completely incapable government the GOP always warned of.

Directly contradicting what the sheriff of Nogales said earlier on NPR.  He said it was mainly pot coming in other places and that was declining.

There are already a large number of positions that are unfilled in this administration.

From June. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/04/after-500-days-dozens-of-white-house-jobs-remain-unfilled.html

As of Monday, the White House had yet to put forward the names of candidates for 204 of the 665 key positions that require Senate confirmation, according to the Partnership for Public Service, a nonpartisan group that advises incoming administrations.

Michael Lews. https://www.npr.org/2018/10/02/653607732/michael-lewis-trumps-approach-to-government-shows-neglect-and-misunderstanding

Well, you know, it's funny because the broad impulse of the Trump administration has been just not to fill the jobs. I mean, the top 700 jobs in the administration - half of them are still unfilled. And the ones that are filled are filled often very oddly by people who don't have the expertise for the job. So I would say the broader pattern is one of just general neglect and misunderstanding. Look; there's no question that Trump has been specifically hostile to environmental regulation and to the idea of climate change.

Remember, a lot of these idiots have been stocking up on  5.56mm and Jim Baker buckets o slop for years now. I'd imagine most of them are as erect as they can get without Viagra at the thought of prolonged civil unrest.

God, I would love to hear PJ O'Rourke's thoughts on this mess.

It's the only viable exit for him.  And it's been the only viable exit since the beginning.

He's a toddler who's not used to dealing with adults.

And this.

Trump is setting all kinds of precedents.  They are all bad for the GOP.
