Oh, she used to....then early on in the Obama administration, something changed.  She and my FIL went to some local Tea Party meetups in Texas, but they described the people they met as "crazy".  Facebook became more of a political roundtable and less of what you described.  As the Obama years passed, it became more and more politically charged, and with the election of Trump (who she despised in 2016, but she was going to vote for anyway) it's become turbocharged.

She went from "I don't like him, but I will vote for him" to full bore #MAGA in under 6 months.  She even contemplated getting a Twitter account (she may have, for all I know) but never really said why.  The real reason, we suspected, was so she could get messages from Trump directly.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if my inlaws believed in Q.

Hate to get all Hugo on ya but I believe this is active measures personified. Damn shame. Its just like in the past telemarketers preying on the olds in our past.

So people are literally gonna start getting cars repoed and starving. Awesome work everyone.

Not to worry. Trumps got all those repo guy in line. He’ll make sure they don’t repo them federal workers on account of his shutdown.

Again, not to worry. Its like when Mcconoughey told those chicks about the beer bust at the moon tower. He delivered didn’t he? Well trump will just do the same.

Trust Trump!

Oh, I just remembered! All those times when the GOP apologists characterized the Wall as nothing more than a campaign promise...

Trump, they told us, knew that the physical wall was just a metaphor for better border security, and they only went with it because it played well with the rubes.

Yep, here we are.

It has been so. long. since. we. have. seen. Tahoe. Hope. he's. okay.

Oh, I believe it too.  She told my wife that she had a notification from Facebook once that something she liked or followed or whatever was "compromised".  She just laughed it off and said it must have been a glitch or something.

Do it then, pussy.
When people aren't able to get their interest free loans they make to the government each year (Tax Refund), they will be screaming bloody murder and that's when things will get really fun.  Right now there's a whole lot of "well,it doesn't affect me because blah di blah". But as it affects more and more, buckle in.

Yep.  Do it pussy.  Stop talking about it and be about it.

Car repos. Evictions. Air travel becoming a cluster. Because a toddler didn’t get a vindictive vanity project. That’s how you make America great again, I’m sure of it.

What's so breathtaking unbelievable is they are trying to sell some sort of long-term shutdown based entirely on some imminent national emergency crisis that immigration causes that they failed to address for the last two years when they had control of the houses.

Too bad that we all can’t stop our paycheck withholding taxes to protest the govt shutdown.   You want to close the govt, then you’re not getting our money.

while it’s not possible to stop taxes with the modern method of your employer collecting taxes on behalf of the govt, I suppose a movement could start for everyone to raise their w-4 allowances to 10.

I feel like this is getting lost in the shuffle a bit, but it needs reemphasizing: $5B is not THE WALL. It’s probably not even 5% of the wall.

In the name of illegal immigration, we are shutting down the fucking government for a minuscule percentage of the cost of a wall that won’t even address how the majority of illegal immigrants enter the country. Good work team.

I was told Mexico was going to pay for it anyway.

The shutdown had an unintended effect today.  My bride had enough with my #MAGA MIL.

In 3 weeks, MIL has not even bothered to ask how this would affect us, our home, our children, etc.  But, she has plenty of time to forward every email, meme, falsehood, etc.  Today was the day that she went too far.  She posted a meme (paraphrasing) on Facebook about how all government employees were non essential, that the government should be shutdown for years, Nancy Pelosi has a wall around her house and is a hypocrite, etc.

Whatever she said (and my wife's retort) was bad enough that MIL either deleted her Facebook account or deactivated it, for I can't see it now.

So, I'm going to break out my bottle of Gentlemen Jack in a bit and just sip for a while.

Update.

Wife spoke to her mom. MIL did deactivate her Facebook account, but only because she felt she was "attacked" by my wife.  When wife pointed out how she felt disrespected by MIL's position towards government employees, MIL only replied something along the lines of "you attacked me for wanting a wall".  Keep in mind this woman has never wanted a wall until sometime in 2016.

When wife tried making an analogy that she would never dream of attacking the O&G industry out of respect for her mom and dad (her dad is a lifer in the O&G industry), MIL could only come back with "it's the democrats fault".   MIL simply is so oblivious to the fact that one of her children is a government employee who is affected by this shutdown...so much so, she feels she was attacked for wanting a wall.

Yeah.  #MAGA.  So much winning.

Love the GOPs talking point that the Dems know that Trump campaigned on the wall issue and that he should get it because he won.

Funny how that doesn't apply to Obamacare. Especially considering Obama was the only president to assume office in the 21st Century with the majority of the vote.

Late edit.

Forgot to point out during the phone call, wife kept hearing her dad in the background ranting something about those "fucking socialists are coming to take his millions" and he was sick of that shit.

Ladies and gentlemen, your #MAGA supporters.

My mom is even worse. Rails about entitlements, Obamacare, socialism for years. Talk radio ate her brain.
Got fired a few years back and had to retire and apply for ACA. Now she’s bitching about Medicare, decreasing SS payouts, health care lack of coverage, preexisting conditions.

Voted for Cruz, trump etc.

On our Christmas visit the only political topics she could dredge up were butHillary and some bizarre story about how the media picks on Melania.

Fuck the propagandist.

Quote

WASHINGTON — Before it became the chief sticking point in a government shutdown drama that threatens to consume his presidency at a critical moment, President Trump’s promise to build a wall on the southwestern border was a memory trick for an undisciplined candidate.

As Mr. Trump began exploring a presidential run in 2014, his political advisers landed on the idea of a border wall as a mnemonic device of sorts, a way to make sure their candidate — who hated reading from a script but loved boasting about himself and his talents as a builder — would remember to talk about getting tough on immigration, which was to be a signature issue in his nascent campaign.

“How do we get him to continue to talk about immigration?” Sam Nunberg, one of Mr. Trump’s early political advisers, recalled telling Roger J. Stone Jr., another adviser. “We’re going to get him to talk about he’s going to build a wall.”

Talk Mr. Trump did, and the line drew rapturous cheers from conservative audiences, thrilling the candidate and soon becoming a staple of campaign speeches. Chants of “Build the wall!” echoed through arenas throughout the country.

Now, Mr. Trump’s fixation with a border wall — the material embodiment of his keep-them-out immigration agenda — has run headlong into the new realities of divided government, pitting him against Democrats who reject the idea out of hand. The impasse is particularly remarkable given that even some immigration hard-liners do not regard the wall as their highest priority and fear that Mr. Trump’s preoccupation with it will prompt him to cut a deal that trades a relatively ineffectual measure for major concessions on immigration.

Smithsonian museums are closed. There are no federal staffers to answer tourists' questions at the Lincoln Memorial. And across the United States, national parks are cluttered with trash. Yet despite the federal government shutdown, a historic clock tower at the Trump International Hotel remained open Friday for its handful of visitors, staffed by green-clad National Park Service rangers.

None taken.  And wife is coming to that conclusion as well.

Wife has kept trickling out parts of her over hour long phone call with her mom yesterday.  One gem (paraphrasing) "Trump is a genius.  I can't believe how you cannot see that".

This president should be drawn and quartered.

What cracks me up is his moron supporters still cheering about draining the swamp. In their world, turning the swamp up to 11 and adding in naked self-dealing is “draining the swamp.” Thank god they aren’t cheering for him to put out any fires - we’d be seeing hoses spraying 10,000 gallons of gasoline onto brush fires.

Some friends or family members need to be told that politics need to stay out of the relationship if you want the relationship to continue.

Or, cut utter pieces of shit out of your life. We’ve had to do so with a couple of folks, and it’s helped everyone’s peace of mind. It’s okay to refuse to interact with shitty people. In fact, it’s the smart move.

The utter pieces of shit are easy choices.  It's the vast majority which comprise the piece of shit continuum that make things complicated.  The saving grace for so many from the 'party of personal responsibility' is that surely, they know not what they do.  Right?
