There was a lot of hope this Trio could solve it. Looks like it is siesta time. Full article below.

MIAMI (AP) — It was a rare diplomatic gamble when the three leaders of Latin America’s largest democracies inserted themselves into the high-stakes standoff between Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro and his opponents over who won the country’s presidential election.

Dubbed the three amigos — all dyed-in-the-wool leftists who have been friendly with Maduro — the presidents of Brazil, Colombia and Mexico broke from decades of hands-off diplomacy toward Venezuela and their own reluctance to meddle in a neighbor’s sovereign affairs in a region where U.S. military interventions during the Cold War still generate resentment.

But some experts say the peacemaking effort is losing steam before barely getting off the ground.

They cite misgivings by Mexico’s outgoing president, divisions among Latin America’s left and pressure from the U.S. on Maduro to recognize defeat and step aside. The main outcome so far, they say, has been to grant Maduro precious time to consolidate his rule and jail more opponents since the July 28 vote.

I don't know if this is rage emoji worthy. It is what I sadly expected when the troika was announced and took over vs. the OAS and UN voter teams. Negotiations and back door talks to allow Maduro to get out with "dignity" and the promise he would not be arrested. Colombia suprises me. for a few reasons. 1- Venezuelan migrants are losing their welcome from most working class Latin Americans. 2- The Colombian military is tired of the remenants of the FARC running across the border for sancutary, 3- This was the President's chance to be seen as a player in Hemispheric politics.

Brazil and Mexico? Nah, expected them to go soft.

On the ruling of Venezuela’s Supreme Tribunal of Justice

Press Statement

August 23, 2024

Venezuela’s Supreme Tribunal of Justice ruled yesterday that Nicolas Maduro won the July 28 presidential election against democratic opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez.  This ruling lacks all credibility, given the overwhelming evidence that Gonzalez received the most votes on July 28.

The publicly available and independently verified precinct-level tally sheets show Venezuelan voters chose Edmundo Gonzalez as their future leader.  The will of the Venezuelan people must be respected.  Now is the time for the Venezuelan parties to begin discussions on a respectful, peaceful transition in accordance with Venezuelan electoral law, and the wishes of the Venezuelan people.

Continued attempts to fraudulently claim victory for Maduro will only exacerbate the ongoing crisis. The United States calls on Maduro to release those who have been detained for exercising their right to free expression.

The United States and the international community will continue to stand up for the Venezuelan voters whose will and rights have been continuously undermined since July 28.  We stand ready to support an inclusive, Venezuelan-led process to re-establish democratic norms.

Maduro buckling down. Appointing a rival. Not always the smartest move. Expect more of the Chavez-gangs to up their harrassment BS and more arrests. Colombian border about to be a great place to earn some side cash if you have an extra black couch.

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Tuesday appointed a ruling socialist party boss to oversee the country’s police forces, empowering a hard-line loyalist who has vowed to pursue government opponents as part of a crackdown that has alarmed human rights groups.

Maduro named Diosdado Cabello interior minister as part of a Cabinet shuffle following last month’s contested presidential election.

Along with Maduro, Cabello is one of the most fervent stalwarts of the so-called Bolivarian revolution started by the late Hugo Chávez and has long been considered the second most powerful person in Venezuela after Maduro. A retired army lieutenant, he fought alongside Chávez in a failed military uprising in 1992 and later served as acting president when Chávez himself was removed in a brief coup a decade later.

US seized Maduro's private jet undergoing maintenance (wink wink) in the Dominican Republic.

The United States has seized Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro’s airplane after determining that its acquisition was in violation of US sanctions, among other criminal issues. The US flew the aircraft to Florida on Monday, according to two US officials.

It’s the latest development in what has long been a frosty relationship between the US and Venezuela, and its seizure in the Dominican Republic marks an escalation as the US continues to investigate what it regards as corrupt practices by Venezuela’s government.

The plane has been described by officials as Venezuela’s equivalent to Air Force One and it  has been pictured in previous state visits by Maduro around the world.

Maduro upping the pressure.

https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/venezuela-attorney-general-requests-arrest-warrant-opposition-leader-gonzalez-2024-09-02/

CARACAS, Sept 2 (Reuters) - Venezuela's attorney general's office said on Monday a court has issued an arrest warrant for opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez, accusing him of conspiracy and other crimes amid a dispute over whether he or President Nicolas Maduro won a July election.
Attorney general Tarek Saab shared a photo of the warrant with Reuters via a message on the application Telegram.
The issue of an arrest warrant against Gonzalez would amount to a major escalation in Maduro's government's crackdown against the opposition following the disputed election.

“September smells like Christmas!” Maduro said in his weekly television show on Monday, to the apparent delight of his audience.

“This year and to honor you all, to thank you all, I am going to decree the beginning of Christmas on October 1. Christmas arrived for everyone, in peace, joy and security!” he said.

Maduro’s decree – not the first of its kind, but the earliest – comes as Venezuela grapples with the fallout from July’s presidential election, which saw Maduro claim a third term despite global skepticism and outcry from the country’s opposition movement.

Ballsy. Christmas in Latin America usually means you get an extra months pay. The country has very little cash. How are they going to do that?

Bonuses for beating up protestors?

There should be an uprising on that alone. How man Salamarca de Navidad movies can an already depressed nation take?

Venezuelan security forces have surrounded the Argentine embassy in the capital Caracas, which is sheltering six Venezuelan political figures opposed to President Nicolás Maduro.

Members of the Venezuelan opposition posted images and videos of officers from the country’s intelligence service forming a perimeter around the embassy complex.

Opposition figures inside the building said they were under "siege" by Mr Maduro's regime.

The embassy, as well as Argentine interests in Venezuela, have been represented by Brazil since diplomatic relations between Argentina and Venezuela broke down over the summer due to the outcome of Venezuela's presidential election.

On Saturday, the Venezuelan government revoked Brazil's custody of the embassy, it said, in an apparent attempt to remove its diplomatic protection.

Opposition has fled.

The Venezuelan government has said opposition presidential candidate Edmundo González has left the country, seeking asylum in Spain.

Mr González has been in hiding, and a warrant issued for his arrest after the opposition disputed July's presidential election result - in which the government-controlled National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Nicolás Maduro the winner.

Venezuela's Vice-President Delcy Rodríguez said in a post on social media that after "voluntarily" seeking refuge at the Spanish embassy in Caracas some days ago, Mr Gonzalez asked the Spanish government for political asylum.

She added that Caracas had agreed to his safe passage and that he had left.

Spain's Minister of Foreign Affairs José Manuel Albares said Mr González had departed the country at his own request, and on a Spanish Air Force plane.

He added that Spain's government was committed to the political rights of all Venezuelans.

Opposition leader emerges from hiding. Maduro arrests her.

@bolverk I would have posted in the thread you tried to start but why? And this is NO POLITICS. It is news. Notice the word politics is not in what I cited from an external article not about politics. Well it does one time, but it is to describe a group involved in the news article that is not about politics.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/09/americas/maria-corina-machado-venezuela-protests-intl-latam/index.html

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has been detained in Caracas after joining a protest against President Nicolas Maduro, according to her team.

Maduro is scheduled to be inaugurated for a third term on Friday, following last year’s contested presidential election.

Machado’s political group Comando con Venezuela wrote on X that she was “violently intercepted” while exiting the rally on Thursday. “Regime troops shot at the motorcycles that were transporting her,” the group said.

Her team told CNN that at least eight security officers were involved in the incident.

Machado’s appearance at the rally was her first public appearance in months, since a government crackdown on Venezeulan opposition figures and their supporters following the vote.
