He got blown out by Army. If your an AD, how much faith would you have in the future of your program if the HC gets throttled by fucking Army?  The firing is justified IMO. Media wanting to turn UH into some kind of clown show is bullshit.

Army is 11-2 this year.  They dropped the first game of the year to a Duke and then took Oklahoma to overtimein Norman.  Don’t be a dipshit.

Firing a coach after only two years is a clown show and UH deserves every bit of criticism they have coming.

It’s a clown show whether the firing is justified or not.

They are a clown show because they are a stepping stone program, and they do not want to continue being a stepping stone program.

If they have indication they can land Holgo this is a no brainer.

All depends on how big of a check Tillman is willing to write.

$$$$ in Texas > $ in West Virginia

Is it a no-brainer? Holgorsen has 1 10 win season in the Big 12. He’s a 7-5 coach by winning percentage. That gets you fired according to their self-proclaimed standards.

Fired an 8-5 coach for a coach who averages 8-5
Posted

He lost to Army 70-14. Imagine what will happen on this board if Herman loses 70-14 to Georgia in two days. And that's Georgia.

He had weeks to prepare and the game was over by the second quarter. The firing is justified. Also, there is probably other shit going on behind the scenes. He had drama with Oliver. He may have drama with assistants. The writing may have been on the wall that he isn't going to cut it as a head coach.. and that's before the mighty Black Knights, with an option offense, ran 70 points up his ass.

Holgar is hardly a builder of programs he took over a program that was 11-2 with Rich Rod then 9-4, 9-4, 9-4 for three seasons with Stewart and Holgar went 10-3 his first year (2011) and was ranked 17/18 and then he was not ranked again until 2016 when he was again 17/18 and he has not been ranked since so he was ranked 2 times in 8 seasons after taking over for a program that had been ranked 6 out of the past 7 seasons including some in the top 10

to keep the "optics" of he wanted to be here UH will have to at least match what Holgar makes at WVU or come close to it and next year OU will skull fuck UH and WSU probably will too and north Texas state will be a very tough win for the program UH is right now

it will be hard for Holgar to step in and even win 8 games and that will be for $3.5 million per year

they are going to be fucked if they pay him close to that and if they do not it is easy to recruit against them and their retread ran away scared coach

Exactly. Fans overreact and shit their pants and the administration makes level headed decisions about how to improve. Obviously not in Houston.

It’s only bullshit because UH is unquestionably a clown show and has been for quite some time. There's no "turning into."

Even the surl generally recognizes that giving a coach only 2 years is a horrible look.

And did the UH president really say that about 8-4 being a firing record? Bahahaha.  Fuck.

When was the last time an FBS program fired a head coach after 2 seasons.... one that wasnt embroiled in scandal or cheating?

Bob Valesente at Kansas (mid-1980s) and Walt Harris at Stanford (2006) are two that come to mind.

Exactly. And it's not even on the Charlie Strong level. The Major had a winning record. Unless something else was afoot, you're venturing into D2 territory and no decent D1 coach thinks of coming near that shitfest.

and Mack will hire Major as HC in waiting

Major wasn’t really happy coaching under Mack the last go-round. The assistants caught a lot of shit for Mack’s abdication of his duties.

This post begs the question: if Nick Voinis is monitoring the internet for Mack again, is he monitoring surly, or does he just stick with UNC sites (if they have any)?

Holgersen leaving WVU for UH??  LMFAO.

I"m not sure what is more insane, that they fired a coach year two after 8 regular season wins or that they think Holgo is leaving WVU for UH.  Seems like a lot of programs think they can get Holgo.  What's up with that?  He's built a consistently competitive program.  They paying him peanuts or something?  Maybe they're completely tapped out, can't go any higher and a commuter college like UH can come in like a baller and money whip him away from a P5 program?  Is this real life?

Firing after year two happens when you win 5 games first year and 3 games second year.  Firing year two in modern college football means the record is COMPLETELY unacceptable.  Let me get this straight....8 regular season wins at UH is COMPLETELY unacceptable.  I guess 9 wins is "you're on the hot seat but get year 3."  10 wins I guess is pretty good and 11 is the bar you need to achieve regularly.  That's pretty ridiculous.

and WVU pays him $3.5 million a year UH has never come close to paying a coach like that

and while tilman has money the vast majority of his wealth is not liquid it is tied up in his company that he has to tightly control so he can run it the way he runs it instead of it being a public company

it is not like he has investments he can liquidate and crap out $40 or $50 million tomorrow.....fuck he did not even DONATE to Hofheinz  instead he shitted on a long time Houston family and UH supporters and "sponsored" the fucking thing with naming rights

even Texas Tech FIRST got the Jones family approval for Jones SBC Stajium and kept the Jones name as a part of the deal nd AT&T has given a lot of other money to Tech as well especially in engineering without any naming rights or other considerations

and I seriously doubt the Rockets purchase was straight cash homie I am sure there is a shit tonne of debt there and the Rockets need to keep winning or Houston fans will quit buying tickets especially with tilman involved

in restaurants and especially casinos you can go from making a decent profit to eating shit at the flip of a switch and that is the vast bulk of the tilman net worth

yep he's decidedly average but WVU was Big East during rich rod/stewart.  WVU in the big 12 is a totally different situation.

Y'all are all mistaken on the coach and the timing of his future hiring. It's not gonna be Red Bull Party Uncle.

1. Don't you find it peculiar that Urban Meyer announced his "retirement" just before this job came open? Anybody checked the flight logs out of Columbus?

I could see Holgerson liking the idea on not having to travel between 800+ miles/ to 1400+ per every road trip in his current conference, & easier recruiting in Houston...

Holgo has finished T-5th, T-7th, T-4th, T-5th, T-2nd, T-4th, T-3rd in the Big 12. This was the year he needed to compete for a Big 12 title with the roster he had or it it's never going to happen.

People forget that he was on the hot seat just last year at WV. He's only 38-32 in the Big 12.

I'm not saying this happens but I think this is a more realistic possibility than people believe it to be. If WV has a bad year next year Holgo will be on the hot seat and they are losing a lot from this team (especially if Long or Simms leave early).

I'm not sure what half-life is for radioactive coaches but surely Brenda Tracy can't drive a life sentence. I expect Briles to be a candidate for U of H if the Major has in fact been fired. The time to hire Briles would be after the CFP Championship game so most of the on-air commentators would be covering basketball.

The Brenda Tracy stuff is just an act from all these programs/coaches.

Taggart invited her to speak at Oregon I believe and then hired Kendall Briles a couple years later. It's all a show from most of the coaches. If they get backed in a corner they will hire a coach no matter their background.
