I have no doubt that we have the best military in the world. I don't ever want to see how much he would dumb down and handicap us if we got into WWIII.

Folks, planes used to have TWO sets of wings!? We got rid of the extra wings! How dumb are we? We gotta make more biplanes, folks, backup wings in case the first set get shot up with bullets!

I had a guy come up to me.  Big guy.  Strong.  Tattoos all up and down his arm and a thick mustache.  He was crying saying he loved the idea of more biplanes.  Lots of really tough guys are saying this.

i love the weird obsession he has with telling stories about people coming up to him, while he's all alone, and they're all alone, and telling him some emotional story about how great he is.

are these dreams he's having?  are they his imaginary friends?  as president, i would guess the time he has to engage one-on-one with strangers is exceptionally limited.

400 years ago when Trump was first inaugurated one of my favorite reality-destroying moments is a roundtable where Trump is with a bunch of disgusting billionaire-class freaks who need to be guillotined and he makes one of them tell everyone about the time Trump got a hole-in-one

He's majestically venal and stupid. It's hard for me to not smile.

Yeah, "exceptionally limited" being "zero".  The Secret Service would never allow these intimate conversations between POTUS and some random large tatted man with a mustache and great concern that the liberals are destroying America.

God, we are being "led" by a fucking child.

Donald knows way more about this than you. You're a low IQ type person. He is a stable genius. Sad.

He can line up some aids in the White House to attest to all of this.

could someone explain the evangelicals idolization of Trump? it's very obvious he doesn't believe in any God other than himself, has never attended church, opened a Bible, etc...never mind a life spent in pretty much total opposition to the teachings of Christ.

i'm genuinely curious why they've hitched their wagon to him...any reasonable explanations?

Reasonable?  No.

It's very Machiavellian.  Trump appeals to evangelicals' pro-life stance, and to a certain degree hits the mark on the bigoted subset, whether it's race or sexuality.  They generally don't like the way the message is delivered, but in a very "ends justify the means" way excuse it for what they perceived to be the right outcome.

They're also being fooled by "holy men" at the top who are anything but.  We've seen this play out for decades in the mega-churches.  In general, evangelicals are easily played.

He's been talking about it for a while, but he repeated his belief that steam catapults are better than electromagnetic ones during the Japanese trip.  Says he's going to require the new carriers to have them.  I get the MAGA ethos that everything about 1950 is better than now, but laugh that it extends to this sort of shit.

Well other than safety, reliability, turn around time, and power, steam is better.

I'd put the over/under on the number of abortions Trump has paid for at 8. but if word came out they he paid for abortions from his mistresses, it wouldn't move the needle at all for evangelicals.

they're actually a terrifying subset of human beings.

It's very transactional.  You can pretty much put to bed any statement by the right now that they "just can't vote for [x] because of he did [y]."   Personal characteristics matter zero.

All the tough guys who get overwhelmed by emotion as they personally thank Trump must be hanging out with those "countless" FBI agents who contacted Sarah Sanders to tell her that they had lost confidence in James Comey.

Yep. Vice sent someone to one of their big conventions and basically they know he’s a fraud but he’s doing what they want so who cares?

Some combination of wanting to bring about the second coming/end times and bigotry that they think is disguised by claiming to be devout,

A rumor should be started that Trump is actually a Juggalo and doesn't understand how magnets work.

He is them. All it takes is a totally, completely, absolutely unfounded belief in your own righteousness in the face of all contrary evidence.

Lie to the world. Lie to yourself. You're in the club.

not sure what you're confused about.  trump loves the bible.  it's his favorite book.

it took me a while to realize this, but there no longer is a such thing as "political fallout".

most of the registered voters know exactly who they're voting for already (not a specific dem, but whomever emerges).  the country is so divided and everyone is so partisan, that it doesn't matter what shit he spews, or what joe biden voted on, or if bernie is a socialist.  trump went on twitter yesterday to remind black voters about biden's crime bill.  does anyone think this strategy will work for him?  gtfo.

nobody fucking cares anymore what happens.  trump has lowered the bar for politics in this country.  possibly in the world.

False.  There's political fallout for every possible mis-step a Dem makes.  Hell, even if it's not a mistake (TAN SUIT! DIJON MUSTARD!)  There's zero fallout for any number of sins a GOP candidate commits.

Trump could shoot a man in the face in the middle of 5th avenue -- zero fallout, hell, he probably goes UP in approval.

A Dem could walk by the scene of the crime, see the spent shell casing on the ground, fail to pick it up, and be branded a CRAVEN LITTERBUG.

I dunno, in the eyes of people not really paying attention, Trump’s body of work makes a compelling case for political fallout if framed appropriately.  We haven’t seen that yet, but we will.

framed by who?  the mainstream media?  the outraged left on twitter?

he's already done so much terrible shit that everyone is already used to story after story about his fuckery.  what's one more?

none of it matters anymore.  we're too desensitized.

like i keep saying - numbers don't lie.  and there's a reason he's been stuck at 42 with the economy booming.  people who like him like him, people who don't, don't, and won't.

it's over.

... yet there would be zero votes changed because of it.  Fox would tell the people that were already going to vote R that they have to vote R because he's a CRAVEN LITTERBUG.  The Ds would say, don't care, probably not true, but CRAVEN LITTERBUG is certainly better than Trump.

It's a consequence of their being virtually zero "undecideds" anymore.

right, well obviously there is no political fallout for trump.  that's basically what i meant (in response to hugo).

but in a broader sense, once a democrat is nominated, there won't be much potential fallout for them either.

i'm talking about actual fallout, not people freaking out on twitter.

It’s easy to say that and I understand it appears that way but a big advantage Trump had the first go around is he had no track record in public office.  That advantage all of a sudden becomes a liability in 2020.  It might not mean anything because Trump is a master of media manipulation but the negative ads against Trump’s first term write themselves.

i didn't say there was no potential fallout in jan 2017.  i'm talking about today, moving forward.  what's done is done.

we live in the information age, and like you said - it helped him in 2016, and will fuck him in 2020.

Although I guess I do agree with this from a turnout perspective.  Rs will get to the polls the more they are convinced a criminal socialist marxist jewish muslim black elitist would be president if they didn't.  So I guess the political fallout would just be a motivation thing instead of people turning on you.

Pick any Dem candidate right now.  Then understand that Fox News will make sure to have 23.9 hours a day of commentary on how that candidate is a socialist marxist communist secret muslim sympathizer race-baiter babykiller gungrabbber who is coming to your house RIGHT NOW with MS-13 to let them rape your wife/daughter/dog.

They will turn out.  Trump will win again.  Because the brutal truth about our country is that we are a bunch of fucking racist morons.  It's who we are.  It's our brand.  Time to accept that.
