Yes.

However, the Accuweathers of the world do not want competition from the NWS.  They want access to the raw data and other information, but want the ability to put out the forecasts without non-profit (the government) competition.

I guess I don't see what the NWS does as competition as much as public service. I mean fire stations started out as private entities, but it soon became obvious that there was a public good in making them part of local government. I view the NWS much the same way. I'm not sure that Accuweather could coordinate with the same rapid response that the NWS can (well as long as idiots don't keep getting in the NWS' way)

It's only competition in a sense that the NWS gives away something that Accuweather wants to charge for.

The private wx companies want their cake (the satellite and radar data, among other things) the government provides, but want the ability to charge the public for forecasts.

That's oversimplifying it, and Burt can chime in as well, but that's the deal.

All of them describe, in different ways, a euphoric flow of emotions between themselves and the president, a sort of adrenaline-fueled, psychic cleansing that follows 90 minutes of chanting and cheering with 15,000 other like-minded Trump junkies.

“Once you start going, it’s kind of like an addiction, honestly,” said April Owens, a 49-year-old financial manager in Kingsport, Tenn., who has been to 11 rallies. “I love the energy. I wouldn’t stand in line for 26 hours to see any rock band. He’s the only person I would do this for, and I’ll be here as many times as I can.”

But aren't the forecasts and models by those private weather businesses based on the NWS materials? The thing with privatizing certain government functions especially in the case of weather is that the profit margin would seem to frequently over-ride the goals and objectives of the function. If an entity can make money by telling people to evacuate or stock up on supplies or whatever, they will do that regardless of the duty to the public. Because when people are harmed, literally or otherwise, the two entities (private sector and government) point at each other in blame and the public has no chain of command with which to find remedy.

Accuweather doesn't want the warning responsibility...too much liability.  Its the forecast they want, and the reason they want it is so everyone has to pay for said forecast.  In other words, they want you to pay them for something in which your tax dollar has already paid.

To be fair to the administration, what could violate the interstate commerce clause more than a Hurricane?

More racist babble...

Trump told reporters outside the White House that anyone seeking refuge in the wake of Hurricane Dorian "needs totally proper documentation."

In particular, Trump expressed concern over "people going to the Bahamas who weren't supposed to be there."

"I don't want to allow people that weren't supposed to be in the Bahamas to come into the United States including some very bad people," he added, referring specifically to gang members and drug dealers who fled to the islands.

President Donald Trump on Monday claimed he plans on releasing an "extremely complete" report of his financial record, but he offered no specifics and a murky timeline.

Speaking to reporters as he departed the White House, Trump suggested that the promised release would dispel the notion that his real estate empire is in need of the taxpayer money and business driven there throughout his presidency.

Wait...how complete?

"EXTREMELY" complete, you say?

Wow.  I must confess, I'm impressed.  I mean, that guy over there told me he ran a "complete" marathon.  I understood that to be 26.2 miles.  But I am no longer impressed -- he should have run an EXTREMELY complete marathon, which would have been, ummm...26.2 miles also.

Having to withdraw a Kremlin insider to own the libs:

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/09/us/politics/cia-informant-russia.html

  Quote

Decades ago, the C.I.A. recruited and carefully cultivated a midlevel Russian official who began rapidly advancing through the governmental ranks. Eventually, American spies struck gold: The longtime source landed an influential position that came with access to the highest level of the Kremlin.

As American officials began to realize that Russia was trying to sabotage the 2016 presidential election, the informant became one of the C.I.A.’s most important — and highly protected — assets. But when intelligence officials revealed the severity of Russia’s election interference with unusual detail later that year, the news media picked up on details about the C.I.A.’s Kremlin sources.

Expand

  Quote

C.I.A. officials worried about safety made the arduous decision in late 2016 to offer to extract the source from Russia. The situation grew more tense when the informant at first refused, citing family concerns — prompting consternation at C.I.A. headquarters and sowing doubts among some American counterintelligence officials about the informant’s trustworthiness. But the C.I.A. pressed again months later after more media inquiries. This time, the informant agreed.

The move brought to an end the career of one of the C.I.A.’s most important sources. It also effectively blinded American intelligence officials to the view from inside Russia as they sought clues about Kremlin interference in the 2018 midterm elections and next year’s presidential contest.

Expand

  Quote

CNN first reported the 2017 extraction on Monday. Other details — including the source’s history with the agency, the initial 2016 exfiltration offer and the cascade of doubts set off by the informant’s subsequent refusal — have not been previously reported. This article is based on interviews in recent months with current and former officials who spoke on the condition that their names not be used discussing classified information.

Officials did not disclose the informant’s identity or new location, both closely held secrets. The person’s life remains in danger, current and former officials said, pointing to Moscow’s attempts last year to assassinate Sergei V. Skripal, a former Russian intelligence official who moved to Britain as part of a high-profile spy exchange in 2010.

  Quote

The Moscow informant was instrumental to the C.I.A.’s most explosive conclusion about Russia’s interference campaign: that President Vladimir V. Putin ordered and orchestrated it himself. As the American government’s best insight into the thinking of and orders from Mr. Putin, the source was also key to the C.I.A.’s assessment that he affirmatively favored Donald J. Trump’s election and personally ordered the hacking of the Democratic National Committee.

The informant, according to people familiar with the matter, was outside of Mr. Putin’s inner circle, but saw him regularly and had access to high-level Kremlin decision-making — easily making the source one of the agency’s most valuable assets.

I could see something being released, that was doctored/cherry-picked/whatever.

It drives him bonkers that many people know his properties are probably being propped up.   It hurts his image (in his mind) that he was fiscally sound before entering office.

His rants today made it clear that he’s scared his base will figure all of this out, so he’s got to release something that says he doesn’t need taxpayer money propping up his properties (Ron Howard: he does).

He’ll get to it libtard!

Trump, defending his spending, says "we had no choice; we had rebuild our military." (A minority of his deficits are related to military spending; tax cuts are biggest contributor.) He says, "You know, budgets are fine. I love budgets. We'll get to that, don't worry about it."

So apparently NBC News thinks they found the Russian spy - living in Virginia under his actual name.

Scuttlebut on Twitter is that he and his wife and three kids disappeared while in Montenegro and the disappearance was reported on by Russian media when it happened.

Some amateur internet detectives say this is the guy’s house and his name is Oleg Smokenkov.
