Air Force officers who have earned medals for their tours of combat theaters can pick up some more brass with a short pitstop in Southwest Scotland.

As part of its relationship with the Air Force, President Donald Trump’s Turnberry resort occasionally gifts high-ranking officers a version of its “Pride Pin,” a lapel pin featuring the property’s iconic lighthouse — an honor reserved for VIPs — upon their arrival, according a resort staffer familiar with the practice.

Rank-and-file members can expect a more basic welcome package in their rooms, featuring goodies like Scottish shortbread.

A five-day visit to Turnberry and the surrounding region revealed that the regular visits from Air Force crews on layovers from Prestwick Airport have become a major facet of the life of the resort. It also revealed that, rather than being restricted to single-night refueling stops, some visits last multiple nights, expanding the known dimensions of the relationship between the president’s luxury resort and the U.S. military.

  Quote

One reason for the multi-night stays, which were described by a half-dozen staffers, is inclement weather that prevents the crews from taking off from the airport 40 minutes up the road. In at least one instance earlier this year, a crew was laid up for multiple nights while their plane underwent repairs, allowing them to hit the links on Turnberry’s world-class course and purchase mementos from the pro shop, where a child’s golf shirt runs 55 British pounds, about $68 at the current exchange rate.

A Trump Organization spokeswoman, Amanda Miller, did not respond to an email requesting comment.

Sometimes I wish Jesus would come back. I'd love to hear his reaction to all the morons that invoke his name on a daily basis. Also, the look on evangelicals faces when they realize he's brown and not some pretty euro looking dude with flowing locks and a well-trimmed beard.

The thing is, it wasn't bipartisan.  The funding increase came from the extra 700 billion in the defense budget from the fiscal year the R's put in when they exploded (pun intended) the deficit and gave a bunch of money to the uber rich and defense contractors.  They just had to spend it by the end of June.  The true Republican "contract with America" if you will.

Can we make sure to write the contract with incentives?  You know, like an escalating bonus for each American service member who dies defending the KSA?  $2 million for each of the first 50, then $5 million each for the next 50, then $10 million per thereafter?  I bet Scott Boras could get us that deal.

Of course, with DOTUS negotiating it, the payoff will be entirely via a commitment by the KSA to spend at least $50 million per year at Trump properties (rooms, services, and food -- gratuities not included or credited towards the total obligation).

Better make sure they are covering the extra room cleaning fees, too. Probably going to be a lot of piss and shit on the carpets after the Saudis get done with Ivanka and Melania.

I'm thinking it's more like, after 1,000 US causalities, the Trump Tower Riyadh can begin construction.  5,000 earns a golf resort in Jeddah, and 10,000+ he gets a hotel, and concession rights to Mecca...nothing's better after a long hajj than a deconstructed burger at the Trump Resort and Spa Mecca.

Funny how on the one hand they rip Hollywoo because who cares what celebrities think, but on the other Trump gives medals to celebrities because they say nice things about him.

I'm not going to derail this thread further after this, but I think you're smart enough to know that Ryan and the WH crafted that particular budget. The 60 and 80 percent you're looking at is compromised of people knowing they can't be the cause of a government shutdown right before a midterm election, there's no use fighting a huge majority to take a losing stand, and Trump appeared a lot more powerful during that time period.  You hold your nose, vote yes, and avoid a catastrophe of gridlock.   The D's didn't make that budget and you know it.

As a good member of congress, sometimes you have to take the loss and move on.  If both sides fought like the petulant "Freedom/Tea/Whatever" caucus, nothing would get done.

I don’t know why you think the wall would all of the sudden keep somebody named Jesus out.   It hasn’t done it so far.

All the Jesuses I know are pretty good dudes.

Still not sure why we’re trying to keep them out.

Except that one fancy bowler guy. He’s gotta go.

Ahh yes, the ole' Politics vs Principle catch 22 for politicians, got it.  It's okay to vote for wasteful spending as long as it doesn't shut down the apparatus that bleeds us dry of our tax dollars.

Also, IMO, it doesn't matter who crafted the bill or wrote it, it's the fact that both sides supported it as they usually do when it comes to increasing federal spending. You complain about wasting money at the Pentagon (a good principled stance), but then claim "it's okay to vote for the wasteful spending because of....uh politics!" You can't have it both ways in my opinion.

You would have an amplified Panavision version of Howdy (Briscoe Cain) and Doody (Jonathan Stickland).

Christianity is the largest religion in the world, but talking to American Christians, they are the most victimized, persecuted, maligned faithful.

Wait who usually watches/votes on Dancing with the Stars? All the Hollywood elites who are catching it between Extreme Home Makeover and Undercover Boss? Or Mountain Dew swilling Maga gumps?

I have never seen this show. When it comes to pop culture knowledge, I am a shameful poser. Keep up with just enough to be able to small talk at gatherings, but the whole DWTS, Bachelor, Voice stuff is just not my thing. It's kinda like soaps or golf-if you want to watch them, great! Just don't ask me to keep up with the plot/tournament and I won't ask you to go do something during your hour(s) of viewing time.

DJ was the BEST dancer in NYC. They LOVED  him at Studio 54 back in the day. When was that exactly? Oh yeah, 1955. Wait what?

And as some very smart person in this thread pointed out yesterday-

Without cognitive you can’t have dissonance.

Has to be a tremendous honor to shame your heritage and let the president call you a Wasp, and get you to say (make you say?) You love this country more than Hispanics.
