Hey, we’re the bad guys now. It sucks.

These.

When the history books write the story of this era, there will be no ambiguity.  The United States of America is the bad guy.

If you were a Kurd, would you or would you not be launching attacks against the nation that betrayed you?  As in, if there is a Kurdish terrorist attack on US interests within the next year, will anyone in the world even blame them?

We're gonna get what's coming to us.  And we have a LOT coming to us.

Nice, but not real.

We so those tweets every now and then, but really think of the logistics of a private entity sneaking something that size, out of thick material, up there and spreading it out and tying it off.  All while not being stopped by security.

Oceans 11 couldn't pull that off.

Be easier to just blow the fucker up.

@Bateshorn, what's the mood on the hill today? A "guy I know" says congress are getting a bunch of calls/text/emails from military and GWOT vets upset with the president about the Kurdish issue and describes GOP reps as "confused".

Won't fucking matter a bit until we can describe every last one of them as "deposed."

Get them all the fuck out.  Every fucking one of them.  We have committed to being the world's bad guy, under THEIR FUCKING LEADERSHIP.  Fuck them all to hell.

We are scum.  The United States of America is an untrustworthy piece of shit.  We will not just betray you, we will nonchalantly condemn you to death.

That should be engraved over the door of every American Embassy, so that all of our allies know EXACTLY what to expect when they walk in the door to negotiate any agreement with us.

And we should be prepared to have no allies or cooperation at all, for anything, going forward.  It's what we deserve.  Actually, we deserve much worse -- we just have a large enough military and a proven record of using it liberally to keep us from getting much worse.

It is always comforting to know that The Chosen One; aka He Who Pays Off Porn Stars, ignores the Constitution he took an oath to protect, and treats human lives as if they were of no more consequence than a booger he once picked, has limits. Wonder what he considers off limits? Oh, that's right, removing him from the Presidency.

I mean.  It isn't really the first time.  Ask the South Vietnamese.  We did take in a lot of Vietnamese asylum seekers at least.  Doubt our current Emperor would allow any Kurds to come here.

You could also ask the Afghans.  We are letting the Taliban come back there.  We've actually abandoned the "Northern Alliance" 2 or 3 times in our history now.  Or ask the Iraqis who assisted us in the Iraq War and we left them to be executed rather than allowing them to emigrate.

Really, this isn't even the first time we've abandoned the Kurds.  We let Saddam attack them for quite a while between Gulf War 1 and 2.

You know, South Korea is kind of lucky.  They were pretty much the last ally that we didn't flat leave holding the bag when shit got tough.  If the Korean War had taken place from the 60s until now, Seoul would be kneeling to KJU right now.

We got a lot of kudos for sticking by Europe and Asia until Germany and Japan were brought fully to heel.  We haven't been that country since the 50s though.  Our "good guy" account has been empty for a while.  We've been operating on credit, but our cards are being cut up as we speak.  We are even worse now that we abandon people while also refusing them asylum.  We didn't used to be quite that bad even as abandoning people became our MO.

Accurate, and fair.

But now, we revel in it.  It's our fucking BRAND.  The suffering of others is our PURPOSE, not just an incidental byproduct of our self-absorption.

Remember when this guy has his body guards attack people during a peaceful protest on U.S. Soil and donald trump and the republicans did nothing, said nothing, and took it?  Yeah.   So I am real fucking surprised he is alienating out regional allies and diminishing our prestige by continuing a practice of alienating allies, breaking agreements, and emboldening 3rd world thugs.  Meanwhile driving up the debt, reducing our industry at home, and pretending to be a tough guy.    Grab the donuts boys, this is what they wanted and got because people are too lazy to have fought against the gerrymandering and too stupid to vote for the qualified candidate over the charismatic buffoon.

Trump made this move against the Kurds when Congress was out of session. Anybody see that as an accident? He's too stupid to see the advantage in that, but whoever has his ear isn't.

Congress should convene tomorrow. TOMORROW! And pass legislation requiring the government to protect our Kurdish allies.  This can't wait for their stupid little recess schedule. This is murder. We cleared the way for a surprise attack.

I don't think I have ever been aware of one of our betrayals in real time before. It's awful.

We bomb weddings (it was an accident!), we kill nearby innocents when we launch a hellfire missile from a drone to kill somebody whose loss really won't matter (we're better than terrorists because we don't mean to kill the innocent!), and we employ cruelty against asylum seekers.

The Congress thumbs its nuts. The people for the most part can't be bothered to worry about it. We are a callously negligent and malign juggernaut with a villain at the helm.

I never contemplated that I would see this former republic be such a dark force on so many fronts.

I'm neither proud nor pleased to be an American today.

What makes it worse is that the discussion to cut the refugee numbers had been going on for quite some time, ever since Trump was elected and Stephen Miller got comfy in the Administration. The military leaders explicitly stated more than once that the Kurdish people needed to have top consideration for multiple reasons and one of those was the way they had risked their lives for Americans. First they cut the total to 30,000 and then later, more. The argument has been that half of those numbers (now at 10,000) would be reserved for Iragis, Afganis and others of special status who have helped the troops. The decision to cut the numbers was made prior to Trump  listening to Erdogan. Trump did not and never did give a sh*t about the Kurds. The question is, Esper had met with DJ a week or so ago. Wish I knew what they talked about. Was Syria even a topic? Did Esper advise one thing and DJ did the opposite?

Honestly, not much of an idea.  I’ve been negotiating with partners in advance of mark up next week and your average citizen doesn’t normally call committee staff.

I will say the GOP offices seem spooked.

Good God Brisket. We get it. Please, for the love of God, stop. It's one thing to be realistic. Its a whole other thing to go waaaaaaay over the top trying to be super realistic. You might as well go post on every football thread that we are doomed. its fine when its tongue in cheek but tired when you try to play it out seriously. we dont need this shit right now. we need to be focused on working together to fix this. republicans and democrats and independents coming together for the betterment of our nation. if you want to quit and say we are doomed then go sit in the corner and mumble quietly to yourself. but thats the thing about you, i know you are involved and i know you are taking action to help correct this. so please stop with all this "we're doomed" shit. its not helpful. its not a healthy counter-balance. its just fucking tiring. and we need to be focused on more important shit than the claim you keep making that everything we do and try is meaningless and won't matter in the end.

My apologies.

My country issuing engraved invitations to genocide tends to make me want to fucking puke.  Mea culpa.

What I'm bent out of shape about is that shit is happening RIGHT NOW that we can't "fix" or "correct."  Those Kurds who are dying right this instant are dead.  Forever.  There, another one just died.  And another.  There's no fixing that.

Working to fix shit for the future isn't enough.  "How about we just make sure Hitler doesn't build any MORE death camps?"  That ain't shit.  The only moral choice was to attack the camps.  We are at that point.

Awesome!  Don the Con is bringing ISIS back!  We can have some terror events, then ratchet up military and homeland security spending.  Pass some more legislation to further strip away citizens freedoms.  Wall just got 20' higher, gotta keep them browns from crossing over from Mexico, no need to build a northern wall though, its to cold up there for the sand men.

Vulnerable?

Dead countries walking.

All of our alliances are dead.  And if you don't think that means that Putin has 100% won, you ain't paying attention.  He should lead a fucking victory parade through Red Square tomorrow, his victory is complete and total.  The United States is no longer a western ally, it stands alone.  And an increasingly fractured Europe (hello, Brexit!) only further cements his victory.

Putin is the most effective, successful world leader since WWII.  His victory is undeniable.

You actually have dozens if not hundreds of people here denouncing it, not reveling it.

WE didn't do shit.  *I* didn't do shit.  I didn't vote for these fuckers and there is really nothing I can do to stop Donald Trump from being an evil dickwad when I'm trying to keep a family of 7 afloat in Austin, TX.

Enough with the fucking pearl-clutching.  You're a ridiculous drama queen.

radical cleric demands obedience to corrupt authoritarian, not just for the middle east anymore:

Quote

According to the book's description, obtained by POLITICO, the original title for the book was “Render to God and Trump,” a reference to the well-known biblical verse, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.” The message from Jesus in Matthew 22 has been used in contemporary politics to justify obedience to government — or in the case of Reed’s book, to Trump.
