Donald Trump 2019

Anyone know if Mitch can invite Trump to give his SOTU in the senate chamber without a vote from the body? If he can, or if he just needs a majority to do it, I'm guessing that's what will happen. Trump talking with Turtle and Pence behind him.

I am bewildered by your attempt to make a point.

First you said this isn't a complex problem, and then you replied by rattling off a bunch of special interest groups (why?), and then described a counterpoint to my argument, which you say can actually be used to argue either side of the argument.

If that wasn't enough talking in circles, then came more points, and amendments. And then quite frankly I tuned out.

I mean, Hillary Clinton? Gay marriage? Slavery? WTF does that have to do with anything?

Distill your thoughts.

Why is illegal immigration not a complex problem? And why will is a $5.7B piece of wall the best solution?

And let's skip the bullshit argument that "well, a wall is better than nothing". No one here is arguing for nothing.

You are asking me to distill positions on broad assertions that were rebuttals for specific arguments. Nah, I’m good. For example, the claim was made that the wall was for political points rather to solve an actual problem. I countered with the Left’s ability to platform on the issue du jour to run up their own score. Both sides do this and I agree that there are greater interests at heart. I used Hillary as an example.

If not a wall, what’s the alternative? We’re at an ideological impasse on that. I am seeking another way to stem illegals from crossing our borders and other are looking for a way to legalize them and turn a blind eye to their methodology. These are two polar ideas. In that sense, you are advocating that nothing be done. You are either championing amnesty and forgiveness for past and future transgressions or you are capping it to those already here with no solution to stop the future influx. The biggest argument made has been “why are we throwing away money on a solution that won’t work?!?” First, we don’t know it won’t work because it hasn’t had a chance to manifest. Second, the same argument can be made for the TSA. How many bombings have been prevented by making you throw away a can of soup? But, we haven’t had any terrorist activities in quite a while. So it’s either a coincidence or there is some good coming out of their role. It would be nice if the terrorist wore certain hats identifying themselves so us law abiding citizens can just catch a flight. Same deal with those trying to skirt the immigration rules.

You may want to see someone about that attention span problem. I’m not writing a wall of text about a wall.

There have been dozens - hundreds, actually - of posts on this board, as well as significant comprehensive immigration reform legislation (most recently in 2013) that lay out multi-faceted approaches to immigration that are a helluva lot more detailed than your asinine false dichotomy of build a wall or let em all in and amnesty!
You’re choosing to be both ignorant AND stupid. I’m not going to waste my time fixing that problem for you - fix it your damned self. Just know that you’re making a fool of yourself for no good reason.

You should self deport.

I support any sitting President and root for him/her to succeed. If you are suggesting that I like Trump, or agree with 99% of his ideals as a registered Democrat, you would be wrong. But, I suspect you could not care less or fathom that one could agree/disagree with the political party line on singular issues. That’s just one of what I suspect to be many reasons of why I’m simply better than you.

A different fucking idiot. Worlds full of them. They think 5.9B for a couple hundred miles of wall that won't come close to stopping the flow of illegal immigrants is worth fucking over near 1 million Americans and trashing our economy.

No, that's not correct. We don't issue work permits for illegal workers, so I can't respond to your second question. The detainee either goes back as an undocumented worker until his/her hearing or they go on the run. Care to look up which is more popular?

Are you sure about that?

Applying for a work permit

People with pending asylum applications or cases who have been waiting for 150 days or more without a decision are allowed to apply for employment authorization.

You can do this by submitting Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization along with the receipt notice showing the date when your Form I-589, Application for Asylum and Withholding of Removal was received by either the Immigration Court or USCIS.

However, keep in mind that any actions that you take to delay the process—such as requesting a continuance of a hearing or rescheduling an interview—will “stop the clock” and might add days to the time by which you are able to apply for a work permit. (See How to Apply for a Work Permit While Awaiting an Asylum Decision for more information.)

Stopped at “asylum”.

Yes, I am certain that we don’t provide work permits to workers that crossed the border illegally and were caught. In fact, I’m pretty sure we deport them.

I'm entering here at my own risk, once and only once.

I'm watching the movie Wall Street and it's very prescient re: Donald Trump.  He's obviously the Gecko character, preaching greed and loyalty above all else, selling bullshit to further his personal interests.

The movie came out when Trump was on the rise in New York ... I suspect this is part of his DNA, the "greed is good" speech.  His (and our) problem is he probably assumed when the movie ended and Bud Fox went to jail without any mention of Gecko, that everything was cool, the rat took the heat and Gecko sailed off into the sunset.

Problem is none of that translates to government.  He'll hopefully learn soon enough.

Correct.... and the Wall Street sequel opens with Gecko getting out of prison.

JFC that movie came out in 2010

The original WS came out in 1987.  The Gecko character was iconic for anyone living in NYC at the time, regardless of business. Yes I lived there 89-93.

Point being Trump's entire persona has an interesting correlation to Gecko's character.  I think it has heavily influenced him.

OMG.  No wai!  Wall Street came out basically in 1988 (Dec 1987).  By then, Trump had already constructed Trump Tower, bankrupted the USFL, purchased Mar-a-lago, invaded Atlantic City and released 'Art of the Deal'.  He was already "Donald Trump" replete with at least 2 Fred Trump bailouts and working on torpedoing marriage uno by the time the movie came out.  Ironically, Trump had a cameo in Wall Street 2 but ultimately cut by Oliver Stone.  But every rich slime ball who became famous playing the market is compared to Gekko.  He's more closely aligned with Ivan Boesky and Carl Icahn.

I was nodding in agreement until you named Icahn.  Icahn is an asshole but no where near the buffoon trump is.  Icahn wouldn’t bankrupt a fucking casino (multiple times).

He's got to be pissed that he got beat by a woman. I pity the any intern, or underling,  that crosses his path today. His tweets today should be interesting though. You just know he'll be looking for any way to embarrassed Pelosi in the near future... even if he has to fabricate a reason.

Sure. We have some of those independents on here. They voted for Gary Johnson.

they "dislike Trump's rhetoric" and "wish he's scale back on the Twitter," but just so happen to end up voting for every Republican in every race, and get absolutely giddy at how Trump's incompetence, malfeasance, and criminal activity makes the libs angry.  because feeling that others are unhappy and angry is what is really important.

Just heard an interview with Trumpy's "Strategic Communications Sycophant"   It didn't go well.  Basically she was begging for the democrats to come to the White House to negotiate with dear leader...   but they just won't...  sad!   When it was pointed out that Cheeto had only offered things he had taken away, her brain melted and she just got pissy, but she stayed on message like a bad AI.

Trump wants so badly to have the Democrats come to him so that he can save face.  I bet not being able to have a biggly state of the union is bothering him MUCH more than the myriad  safety issues and suffering he is causing for his vanity wall.

I always vote for the best candidate, but the GOP is making it incredibly hard for me to consider anyone affiliated with them as competent, moral, or qualified.  Left the GOP in 90's can't imagine even considering going back.

Has anyone ever gotten Trump to answer whether Wall will be built across Big Bend?  I think that's one of the easiest ways to show the absurdity of this bullshit.

Are there any supporters of Wall here who'd like to answer that?

I heard that, too.

Pathetic.

The interviewer (can't remember - David Green?) flat out asked her "why is it so hard for you to answer the question if the shutdown is worth a possible air disaster or terrorist attack" (or words to that effect). She was a blithering idiot.

Also, I don't hear too many talking heads discussing how this may affect the 2020 elections. Maybe most have already decided that the GOP is toast. Except for the "base", that is.

I'm glad you mentioned the TSA as a comparison. Again.

It's a great analogy, but not for the reason you think it is.
