Just saw a Trump ad running on CNN. "Pelosi and Schumer shut down the government to appease the radical left".

If only we had some kind of smoking (smocking) gun, like Trump on tape saying how much he wants to shut down the government.

A) Wouldn't shut him up.  B) I don't want him dealing with real issues.

cast vote in november to keep government open without wall funding, won't cast that same vote now because democrats would get a political victory.  leadership.

How the media, Dems, and GOP reacted to the “impeach the motherfucker” comment is really telling of how fucked we are.

God forbid someone speak their mind and give the GOP ammunition to vilify the Dems, which they’re going to do anyway.

No, we need to stay calm and let this obvious lunatic keep kicking the country in the dick right before our eyes because “decorum”.

“It’s a shame we let Trump go on for so long, this could have all been avoided if more voices on BOTH SIDES were more vocal about removing Trump from office earlier on.”

Wait, so putting up a bill to finance and reopen the government is refusing to govern?

Passing the exact same bill that Cornyn already voted for is clearly refusing to govern.

Well, I’d certainly agree that doing something the GOP recently did is shitty governance.

Except to give more money to the rich.

The incompetence is breathtaking

It took them a couple weeks to convince Trump what an asinine idea it was to just pull out without any contingency plan but better late than never, I suppose. That's as far as I'm willing to go to give anyone in this administration (even Bolton) any credit.

Or, they’re just ignoring Trump.

How?  What will happen?

What do you think happens when millions of Americans, including more than a fair share of Trumpkins, don’t get their tax refunds?   You think they are going to keep cheering on Trump?  You think they won’t lose their shit when the government is holding money that is theirs?

What do you think happens when hundreds of thousands of government employees say fuck it and take private-sector jobs?   Do you know what institutional knowledge is?

If this stretches on into February or March, ask the people who give you your talking points what happens when millions of Americans (over 70% of taxpayers) don’t get their refunds.

Wait, I’ll save you the time and trouble: Mitch will actually cave on this one, and put it on Trump’s desk, and Trump’s veto will be overridden, and then Trump will be damaged goods in the eyes of his most ardent followers.

Fucking with tax refunds is a no man’s land for everybody involved. Mitch will make Trump own that one.

In all seriousness I would like to understand what the proposed $5B is supposed to buy.  It’s not buying a 2000 mile wall or fence.

In the grand scheme of fed govt spending, $5B isn’t a lot.    Can’t someone ask or explain the exact details?

It will a buy a moral victory and skin for Trump to present to the fanatic right.

How many Cabinet Level positions that require Senate Confirmation currently have acting secretaries/directors that are un-confirmed?

Acting Director of the EPA (Pruitt resigns July 9, 2018)

Acting US ambassador to the United Nations (Haley resigns Oct 9, 2018)

Acting Attorney General (Sessions fired Nov. 7, 2018)

Acting Secretary if the Interior (Zinke resigns Dec. 15, 2018)

Acting Secretary of Defense (Mattis resigns Dec. 20, 2018)

Acting Director of Office of Management and Budget (Jan 2, 2019) - let's be real ; Mulvaney is now WH Chief of Staff and is not director of this Department

Another consequence with this admin being so frenetic and undisciplined, the world is forced to figure out how to progress without the US to be trusted or at the table. This will take decades to correct as we no longer are relied upon, thus included in strategies.

“But you see, the democrats are to blame because they won’t fund the border wall.  I’m sorry the American people aren’t getting their tax returns but Nancy and Chuck are to blame, not the president.”

I think there’s a high probability something gets done before the State of the Union address so Trump can claim victory for reopening the government and putting the democrats in their place.

He might not get a fuck, but when agencies start losing folks who would rather, you know, get a paycheck (think TSA) and airports become a bigger morass of security checks and whatnot, and when his precious Border Patrol head counts start to dwindle because, you know, paychecks.....the Senate GOP will change.

That's the part Trump will never understand, nor will his administration bootlicks.  They honestly believe people would just work for the rest of the year without a paycheck to help him get a wall.  For fucks sake.

Oh, there are senators today who are boasting this or that, but when shit really hits the fan and their polling starts to suffer, they will cut bait.

Sorry, but I’ve been hearing for at least a year now that X, or Y, or Z will be the final straw, and the Republican leadership and Trump’s ardent followers will finally turn on him when any of those things happen.  Well, X, and Y, and Z, have all happened, plus a whole bunch of other things that are way worse, and neither the R leadership (or really any Republicans of any significance whatsoever) nor his following have turned on him.  This won’t do it either.  Anyone who supports Trump and the Republicans, or identifies as a Republican at this juncture, can’t be saved or counted on to ever “do the right thing” or “come around.” Ever.

QFT. They are lost. There is no rehabilitating them, or convincing them with logic and reason. Defeat them, shame them, and isolate/quarantine them the best that we can. It ain’t a great play, but it’s the only viable one.

You know that contract will be for a cool billion.  Wonder which one of his cronies will get the deal?

Fuck this asshole.  Don’t give a penny and make him look like an even bigger idiot in the end - if it’s possible for him to look like a bigger idiot.

That’s because you and Brisket and others who think this don’t rely on those tax refunds.

But there is a part of America who does rely on those tax refunds, and if you think they will blindly ignore Turtle refusing to consider a budget vote, or Dotard vetoing it, you don’t know many of them.

It’s just like Donald assuming that hundreds of thousands of federal employees agree with him and are willing to work without pay.  They may have agreed with him in the past, but the numbers willing to work for free are going to dry up damn fast, and they won’t be voting for him in 2020.

not entirely true, they will abandon him like an aggy QB once they see the tide has turned and it impacts their chances and then they will try to claim credit for voting with their conscious vs along party lines unlike those democrats.

These are the same people that nearly took healthcare from 15 million and were going to call it a political victory.

Unless there’s a mass sustained protest I don’t know about, Trump and Mitch couldn’t give a fuck about Joe six pack’s tax returns.

You’re not getting it.  Trump and the Republicans will blame all of that on the Democrats, and it will work.  These people are either not smart enough to understand that the reason that their refunds aren’t coming is squarely and undeniably on the shoulders of Trump and the R’s, or they are too brainwashed to ever accept it.  Or both.
