100% this.  Any shitbag that gives money to Trump gets none of my money.  Ever.

I don't get your position. I've been calling for public shunning of Trump voters as racists for awhile.   (I just think public officials should leave that to activists and citizens rather than doing it themselves.)   I've been arguing that we should treat them like the klan, and that they should be completely written off when it comes to national political strategy.   You've opposed that, arguing that we shouldn't treat them like the Klan until there is a much larger, critical mass of anti-Trump support.  That, until then, we should not publicly shame Trump supporters or write them off politically, but rather try to reach out to them to show them the harmful real-world impacts of Trump's policies on people they care about.

But then Castro calls out a list of private citizen Trump donors as supporting white supremacy and you're like "100% fuck 'em."  Did the shootings change your mind about how we should treat Trump supporters or am I misunderstanding something about your position?

How is that an issue?

If I go pick up an order of fries, I like knowing whether some of my $1.79 is going to support someone who fans the flames of violence against my family.  And knowing that, I choose to spend my $1.79 elsewhere, because I DON'T WANT TO FUND MY OWN FUCKING MURDER.  I know, how silly of me.

Yeah.  I don't get that argument.  If I care enough about a candidate to send money supporting him or her, I'd want people to know I support that candidate.  If you're embarrassed to be supporting someone, you should be rethinking the support.  Not getting pissed that people know of the support.

You’re right that it’s not a very choice response, but I disagree that it wouldn’t go over well. :)

And that's just on twitter.  I don't know how the nominee is going to hold it together on stage in a debate.  How do you not just unleash on him when he starts with his childish behavior and outright lies?

Thank them for showing me who is a racist piece of shit? This is a non-issue in every other political cycle. But when dealing with racists and racist supporters, they should be shunned!

What's a non-partisan site that has kind of a play-by-play of what he's doing in El Paso today?  An itinerary if you will not provided by far left or far right outlets that may opt to skip over some shit?

And I wouldn't be surprised if a group of D supporters takes the time to distill the donor lists down to summarize the biggest contributors in each state along with a tie to their business interests.  In fact, I think it's just a matter of time, and I'd welcome it.  Time for some of the transparency to be put to use.

You know, Lance Armstrong is a piece of shit, but as the point man in charge of a burgeoning charity even he was smart enough to never take a public political stance.  If these business owners and pillars of the community donate to Donald Trump, I would like to know about it.  Castro just did the legwork.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I'm gonna vote with my fucking dollars and these assholes can sit and spin.  As I said yesterday, fuck 'em.

I’d love one for queens. I’ll gladly spend my money elsewhere, and by word of mouth, tell everyone I know not to spend their money at trump supporting places. Ain’t a damn thing wrong morally, ethically, or legally with that approach.

Choosing where to spend our money is one of the most democratic, capitalist, choices we can make.  Why does the GOP oppose this?  WHY IS THE GOP SOCIALIST???????

I think we are reeeaaaallll close. And the way the stats are showing, we could have another significant shooting within a month. And Trumps rhetoric will just get worse and worse as he is looking to fight for his life in remaining President.

El Paso reaction does seem like it is different from the other mass shootings.  Probably because the dude's manifesto being basically a copy-and-paste of Trump's speeches.  I think the reaction will be more permanent.  That's why there are reports of the admin meeting with the NRA.  They're trying to pre-clear some action with them.

Posted

I really want the UN to get involved and condemn Trump after Mexico sues.

This is way different than other shootings - this is tied directly to our President and the guy IS STILL ALIVE TO TALK ABOUT IT

If it gets worse and people start fighting back, what better reason to enact martial law and give yourself emergency powers?

Posted

You could make an hour-long game show out of showing sentences from his manifest and also sentences from Trump speeches/tweets.  And then ask the contestant to guess who said which quote?  It'd be pretty hard.

Anyway, I love the balls on Rep. Castro posting that list and then doubling down when Trumpkins were calling it reckless and unfair to boycott businesses based on political beliefs (I'm gonna take a shit at a Chik-Fil-A today just 'cause).  Having said that, where the fuck is the actual list?  I can't find it on google, all it brings up is hundreds or articles about the GOP/Castro spat.

Yep. The next manifesto could cite Cheeto by name and he wouldn't care. He would keep saying that it's not his fault and that he's just trying to protect our country.

He looooves the chaos.

It will happen if there are several more mass murders.   But I don't think people start rising up with demonstrations unless their lives are really on the line, like in 1968.

Yes.  Not sure about with the officers at this point and after his cozying to NK, etc.  But among the rank and file absolutely.

We're not.  We're too lazy.

And it doesn't take a revolt, storming the Bastille, that sort of thing.  We just need to take a page from the book of several Euro democracies.  We need a massive general strike.  Shut down highways.  Block railroads and bridges.  Overwhelm the authorities -- they can't arrest EVERYONE for blocking a roadway.  Make them teargas mothers and their kids standing arm-in-arm, blocking a highway.  Shut it down.  Shut it all down.

And that's what he'll do.  Cops will attack people, somebody will swing back, he'll go "SEE!  ANTIFA IS AT WAR WITH US!" and send troops and tanks into the streets.

And that, friends, is where the shit gets real....

Officers are moving away from Trump and have been doing so for awhile.  Rank and file must follow their orders.

Besides, they take an oath to defend the Constitution, not the Commander-in-Chief.  I don't think the military will stand for illegal orders.

It's going to take an assassination of a public official to really hit the mark with the general public.

And absolutely this.  My family has deep S. Texas roots and connections.  I've know plenty of white Betos and Chuys and such.  Most of 'em can speak decent spanish, and they sure as shit know how to stand around the BBQ pit drinking beer and telling lies with the rest of us.

Some officers will resign or will be forced out.  Trump as commander in chief will promote the most sycophantic people in the military he can find (and there are plenty from which he can choose).

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Stephen Miller, reporting for duty.

Trump will wave his hand and turn him into a 6 star general.

It feels like this at least once on month with Trump. Shit keeps building and building to the point where you think something will happen. And then it fades away.

Frankly, I blame the Democratic members of Congress. They have absolutely zero discipline. Want to do something about gun control? Gather every fucking D Senator on the steps of the U.S. Capitol and demand a vote. Make a spectacle out of it.  Stop tweeting and take action.

They are not offended. They just don’t have anything else to complain about. My mother knows all about “pocahantas” Warren but had no idea how she dedicated her efforts for consumer protections. She seemed to like what she did after I told her.

Fucking lazy ass tv voters who watch fox and oan. It isn’t hard to learn about candidates.

They're not offended.  They just see what they think is an opportunity to score political points and potentially bring people to their side, so they act offended.  No different than their faux antisemitism outrage anytime Israel is mentioned.

He should challenge him to a race. Trump would drop dead of a heart attack before he made it 1/2 a mile.

It's time to take it to 11.  Beto has already established that genuine outrage connects with the public.  Lose your shit during the debates.  Demand a vote on gun control.  Put the R's on the defensive for once.

LOL.  The idea of Trump running 100 yards much less a half mile is comical.  The Benny Hill theme could be the hype video soundtrack, though.

Exactly. This isn't a difficult. NINETY PERCENT of American citizens want stricter gun control legislation. What a fucking opportunity to have every D Senator back in D.C. DEMANDING a vote. "We are here because we want to save American lives."

It makes Trump look bad, the GOP look bad, and strengthens the chance of flipping the Senate.

I think the first wave would be the national guard, and you know all these red states are itching to send their guard into POC areas.  Of course none of those governors would go into the fray, offering how their leadership is too important in the situation room.

Brisket has it right, it has to be some peaceful type movement.  But it has to be done en masse.   Unfortunately, because the rural areas are so red, most demonstrations are going to be localized to urban areas.
