Just spent probably too much on a little buck to finally quiet the voice in my head saying “I wish I still had that little buck”.

(yeah time for a new mousepad)

the new one is the 505 Knight on the top. Then the 55 that has ostensibly (but rarely since 2020) been my daily carry and the 110 I used to carry for whatever reason in college lol

they don’t just sell the 505 anymore, you order it from the custom shop. I didn’t really want any customizations, but it’s got some nice looking wood and a mirror shine, for now

I’ll see how long I can carry this before it slips into a seat cushion and is lost again to time

I like Bucks quite a lot.  Their 420HC is a bit above Case's and most everyone else's.

There is a direct cosmic correlation akin to gravity and the laws of motion that the more expensive a pocket knife is, the quicker you will lose it.

I love the knives.  I do not love sharpening them.  These days when I'm making a trip to Bass Pro, I pay the old dude at the knife counter a buck or two (no pun intended) to sharpen mine on the wheel/belt sharpener.

I should ask dad if Peepaw always carried a Buck. Dad did, and so those knives are basically what a pocket knife “is” to me. I have a couple of those kershaw shuffles in the house that I like for a handy utility knife, I have that blur and I’m sure that the spyderco and more tactical looking knives are great and everything, but it’s that buck with the wood on the handle and the simple locking mechanism that I want in my pocket. And right now I’m not regretting finally ordering another 505 - it didn’t take that long to get, and the size is right. I can’t feel it in my pocket without reaching for it. They also have the 503 and the 501 (the 501 being the biggest) which I’ve carried at various points. The 503 I think is the same size as the 55.

Need a 112 to firm up that collect of Buck folders

A buddy carried a small folder like that 505 for a long time. Seen him clean several deer and a ton of catfish with it.

Yeah, I have no experience with "supersteels," other than 440C and D2, which don't really count anymore.  But yeah Buck steel is hard to sharpen, like the aforementioned.

I'm a retrogrouch and see sharpening as an inevitability, so as far as I know, I'd rather just do it more often with a steel that I know I can get sharp af pretty quickly.  Then again, I don't use my knives all that hard.

Also, check out how that satin finish appears to to go evenly over the edge, like it was sharpened then given a final finish.

Texted my buddy and asked about that knife and he said I’ll pull out of my pocket and send you a pic.

A little Puma lockback he said he bought in 1980

Seems like there are better tools to get after a deer with, but who am I to judge?

I think we've all used weird items when the need is there.  I once caped a doe with a little red Swiss army knife I had on my keychain because the little blade was so sharp.  Also used a kitchen knife once.  My favorite are small Rapala fishing knives.  Super sharp and they resharpen easily.

Dont need one of those, have too many of that ilk.

First time in a while that this thread gets bumped and I didn't buy something.

But the day is relatively young

I don’t know much about knives but I plan to carry them in my shop. What are some “bespoke” brands? Limited production? Folding and fixed blades.

I don’t want bench made or spyderco or whatever. $300-$1000 per range.

That makes absolutely no sense.  I would think they would sell more of that size than all the larger ones combined.

Tacticool knives are all the rage these days.  And, they are handy with their fancy locks and flippers and assisted opening and such.

But so many are just so damn huge, bulky, and heavy, you really do need the clip to keep it from weighing your pocket down.  And the blades are often too thick for my taste.

Yes - exactly. Damn good suggestion.

Maybe Great Eastern slipjoints. https://greateasterncutlery.net/blog/

Lionsteel, an Italian company, makes some interesting knives that are easy enough to find online, but probably look pretty good in a display case. https://www.lionsteel.it/en/

Bark River sells a lot of fixed blades that are popular among bushcrafters and hunters. https://barkriverknives.com/

Something that would be cool and kind of old-school, but probably hard to stock would be Randall knives.  https://randallknives.com/  Geezus, delivery time on a custom order is seven years.

Oh man, first look at Montana Knife Company - they sell out in minutes upon every release.  Think guys waiting to click the refresh button ala Taylor Swift tickets.

Half-Face Blades is another.  Super large following.

Winkler is pretty damn popular

Helm Forge is a local Texas guy

Toor Knives
