Forcing defenders to alternate between traditional slots like Moore and Smith and an LJH-style MonsterSlot like Eagles is just cruel.

Oregon having to work their Roster # 's

https://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/2019/01/analysis-with-oregon-ducks-over-the-football-scholarship-limit-expect-movement.html

Also explanation on how teams exceed 25 Man Class Limit:  "On paper, Oregon sits at the NCAA-maximum allowable 25 commitments in the 2019 recruiting class, but the six January early enrollees — Kayvon Thibodeaux, Ge’Mon Eaford, Josh Delgado, Cale Millen, Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu and Dru Mathis — can count toward the 2018 recruiting class, so theoretically the Ducks could take as many as 31."

Bobby is getting lazy as fuck. Yesterday, he said Bru was the highest OOS recruit since Simms, forgetting Hicks and now this. This is obvious fucking stuff if you follow the program with any level of detail.

Also, lulz at Bobby posting his 5* list. Bobby hasn’t watched film on even half those guys.

Danny Young needs to move to H-Back.

Disagree. We don't have the numbers for guys to switch positions from RB and if we did, I'd see what he looks like at LB (which he played in HS.) Besides, Young isn't a slouch or wasted scholarship. He runs hard and doesn't try to be too fancy when he does it.

The 2 things that really screwed him over this year and make people think less of him are fumbles and the emergence of the Sam wheeler/ QB power/ stretch play we used in short yardage. Had those not happened, we'd automatically assume a 2 pronged attack with Ingram and Young as 1 and 2.

Maybe. But you can't discount that Tre Watson was a low risk investment that paid great dividends which also affected the RB rotation. IIRC, Herman wasn't enthused with running Sam as much as he had to especially on short yardage scenarios given the threat of re-injury to the throwing shoulder. Unless the OL was blocking differently for Danny Young, he needs to spend a lot of time studying his film to see where he was going wrong so that he can improve in the off season.

Posted

I wouldn't discount anything Watson did last year. Our rushing attack wouldn't look half as average as it had without him. I think the point I'm trying to make is that we've got enough bodies in the TE room and not the RB room. It's not like Young is useless or you hold your breath when he's playing like Porter.

Young looked really promising as a freshman and regressed majorly this year. Hopefully he can get back to looking more like the 2017 version of himself, because unless a GT RB pops up this spring, we’re likely gonna really need Young in multiple games next year.

Young is better than Porter, so we’ll be OK with him as our 2nd RB sharing carries with the others. I’m good with this split:

Ingram - 15-18 carries

Young/Brown/Whittington/KJ - 2-5 carries each (basically rotate them in every 3rd or 4th series).

If Ingram gets hurt, Brown is probably our most ready “complete” RB to take the load, but I’m sure it would be him and Young 50/50.

Apparently we have a really good shot with Parker Braun, a First Team All ACC guard graduate transfer from Georgia Tech. Would anyone on the roster beat him out for LG or RG?

You're confusing having an assignment to make a block with actually making the block.

braun is good player.  and he seems like a smart player, though I can’t put my finger on why.  anyway, he should handle pass blocking just fine; the hard part is simply knowing your assignment and he’ll get that figured out.

He worked really well in GT's system, fact. He'd do well on the run side of ours, prolly. Whether he's big enough, or can get big enough, to be effective pass blocker, is a little iffy, I think.

But the way MensaTom and The Hand picked, signed, and coached Calvin makes me gruntle if they want him.

he’s plenty big to be an effective college guard.

Is he? Last I saw, he was 270-ish, and that was in one of GT's tv'ed games. He looked good in their scheme, but is that big enough to pass block half the  plays? Looks like we'll see. Again, if Mensa'sHand wants him, sign him up.

he just has to be good.  most of the good ones are huge but 275-280 is plenty big if you know how to block.  stepnoski was an NFL all-pro at 250 lbs.

In a previous century.

The question is not whether he can be "good", but whether he can be good enough. We may see - seems like he's smart enough, true 3-year grad from GT and all. All-ACC is nothing to sneeze at, either.

Gotta Hand it to MensaTom.

We have nine early enrollees from the 2019 class:

Roschon Johnson, QB

Jordan Whittington, WR (or RB, or whatever the fuck he wants to be)

Tyler Johnson, OT

Jared Wiley, TE

Jacoby Jones, DE

Peter Mpagi, DE

De'Gabriel Floyd, LB

Caleb Johnson, LB

Marcus Tillman, LB

Bru makes it 10 Early Enrollees in 2019 Class. 🤘

If only Shepherd signs Wednesday, that's 24 that would be signed for 2019 Class..... Later this spring, might see Texas add 1-2 OL grad transfers, and possibly a RB.

Looks like a few additional Scholy's will be saved for 2020 Class..... glad to see it.
