My bike is trash now due to a frame break.  If you could get any endurance road bike for $4,500 or less what would it be?

So far, I'm looking at Canyon Endurance CF SLX 7 AXS or a Specialized Roubaix.  The Canyon has more bang for the buck but I've read about frame failures and customer service issues with them.

Alright you badasses.  This old dude is going to do the Monterey Bay half this weekend and as long as I do 230 or less I’ll be pleased.  My pace running now is about 1030 for shorter runs and 1130 for long runs.  If this doesn’t wreck me I’ll do the Big Sur marathon next year, since I don’t have to do the lottery .  Wish me luck as I do the slow fat guy shuffle Sunday.

You haven't seen slow fat guy shuffle till you see me rocking 13 min/mile on my long runs lol

look at BMC Roadmachine Four.     I'm this (holds finger and thumb right next to each other) close to pulling the trigger.

I just looked,  Roadmachine Three is on sale so you get Ultegra Di2 and upgraded wheels for 4479.00

My wife completed the Golden Gate Half this past weekend in SF. Really cool route and highly recommended for your next half marathon. She’s convinced me to run a half with her and we are eying the Montreal Half next September. Anyone have experience running this particular race?

Thank you. I understand little about bikes. I understand the benefit of electronic shifting but does the Roadmachine shine somewhere else a Canyon Endurance or Roubaix does not?

I think they are cool and have heard good things about them.   @G650 knows way more than me about road bikes.   I think he has a bmc but I could be thinking about someone else.

So I used to have 2, still have one. Personally, I think RM is a much nicer bike in several ways compared to those two, especially the Canyon. The Roubaix is a good bike but it's very long in the tooth design wise imo.

The Roadmachine has some of the best ride compliance you will find anywhere while still have super nimble handling. They got the geometry just right.

Definitely happy to answer any specific questions on the BMC though anytime.

I wish I knew enough to ask the right questions.

Where can I finding of these? LBS? I don’t recall seeing any there but wasn’t looking for one so I may have missed it. Website looks like it ships only to Europe and they’re out of most everything anyways.

Just found this thread! I've been on an 11 month journey (so far) to go from nothing to outright qualifier for 70.3 worlds. The plan was to race Augusta 70.3 in September and keep building into next season but the hurricane made sure that wouldn't happen. Thankfully, Ironman is really good about the options so I was able to bump it to Ironman 70.3 Florida in December. I've run a bunch of half marathons and swam when I was younger so the only thing I am starting fresh on to say is the bike. My current projected finish time is around 4:45 an outright qualifying slots (not a rolldown) tends to be around 4:10 in my age group (35-39). I have a long ways to go. Right now my biggest gains are going to come from the run. To be fair I don't even know if it's in my genetics to run a 1:18 half marathon lol. Currently I'm training about 15-18 hours a week and I'm doing this as a personal challenge/for fun so we'll see what happens. Maybe by the end of next year I'll be close enough to compete.

Bike Bike Bike Bike and Bike some more. It’s where you will spend most of your time. I would even ride 70 and run 10 in a brick.

Thanks! It's been baby steps so far and hard to keep my eyes on the big picture but progress is progress. Next year I'm doing Chattanooga 70.3, Augusta 70.3 and maybe a third one late fall. I would love to do a west coast race at some point but the idea of flying with my bike sounds anxiety inducing lol. Thankfully there are a good number of east coast races within driving distance

See you in Chattanooga. I live here also so ask me anything.

Yeah I'm sure you have a dealer somewhere. There's a dealer locator page on the BMC website i believe

My massage therapist did Chattanooga IM this year, loved it even though swim was canceled from storm.

The 70.3 there aren’t really any hills.

I did a 10:23. I was on pace for a 9:10 until mile 14 of run.

How do you recommend working up to IM bike distance? How often do you bike in a week and what distances/exertion level?

I did 3 100 mile rides and a lot of 60-70 followed by 9 mile runs. Once you get to 70 miles riding 50 seems like a ripoff.  Also, the saying I love the most is 80 miles is the half way point of 112 and it is true. You spend the longest amount of time on the bike so you need to train the longest there.

Haven't checked in here in awhile. Lots of inspiring triathlon content as of late. Way to get after it everyone!

Did the Indianapolis marathon last weekend, and I highly recommend it. The course is comparable to Houston. Finally got a PR again with a 2:45. I had been sitting on my old PR for almost 3 years.

Ok back after a well earned break from the internet for a week plus.  Finished in exactly 2:30, which was the goal.  Best part was my knees weren’t killing me.  I will do it again next year, but hopefully at around 230 instead of 245 lbs.  still too heavy…

Following up on the Pinarello f5, it looks to have a racing geometry. I like going fast but I am more interested in going longish, like 3-4 hours. I had no comfort issues with a Roubaix. Is the f5 going to feel substantially different over the course of the ride? Bike shop guy said he has spacers to put it more an endurance geometry but I don’t exactly trust salespeople. I don’t want to get a bike that’s going to feel uncomfortable and I don’t know whether and to what extent that’s an issue with a bike like this. Any help? Everything else about it seems awesome.

I guess this is the running thread?

My wife has gotten into running. I've had a terrible stretch of having no time to focus on things since a week before thanksgiving and am running out of time to figure out her nice-ish Christmas gift. I finally got her a peloton tread+ last year and she just did her first marathon, finishing just a smidge under 4 hours. I don't need to go tread+ big again but I need something more than a stocking stuffer - is a "Stryd" interesting/worth a shit?

Does she buy expensive shoes? They have trainers and racers that go for a couple hundred plus that a lot of people can’t justify but might like to have. ASICS Superblasts are considered by a lot of people to be best all around trainers.

What do y'all use to carry water on long runs? I got a belt that holds a couple of bottles, but it's constantly sagging down as I run. I need something new.

A 4 part answer:

  1. My main bottle for general training runs is this Nathan waist belt:  https://www.nathansports.com/collections/hydration/products/peak-lite-hydration-waist-pack?variant=40634775142488  For me it stays put and I don't even feel it anymore.
  2. For medium or really hot runs where I know I'll need a little more water, I've gotten accustomed to carrying a disposable bottle in each hand. Drink those first and there's always a garbage can.
  3. For long runs that go over a known course and when I have the time, I drive the course just before my run and stash bottles. I have a 13 mile and 6 mile course around my house where I probably do this 15 or so times a summer.  One spot is behind a light post, another is behind a bush, etc; all slightly hidden in low traffic areas. Nobody has ever messed with any of them.
  4. For much longer runs that where stashing bottle ahead of time isn't practical, such as when I decide I'm going on a long run but will go wherever the road takes me, I have a EULANT hydration backpack. I probably only use it 2 times a year.   It does works, and sometimes it's the only option, but it is a little more constraining, it take a bit longer to actually drink, and I find on really hot runs, I start worrying about how much water is left.

Signing up for Florida 70.3 - May 10th of this year. Marathon training has taken a backseat because of moving and new job. Now that I’m settled and able to train, it’s back to the bike grind. I’ve spun about 3 or 4 times since Waco just to keep the feel of things. Swam once since beginning of October 😂

It’ll be nice to be back into a training block. We may sign up for Cowtown in February. We ran the Bryan/College Station half last weekend. Shitty rainy the whole race.

I'm running Houston January 19 and couldn't be in more of a funk.  My knee is still limited, I'm slow and when I'm running I really just want to stop and have a lie down in the grass.
