I’ve logged 65 miles this week running and 3 hours on the bike. Looks like I am doing the Chattanooga 70.3 and Chattanooga 140.6 again. #runitback

I was close to choosing Chattanooga in May. Easier to convince the wife to take the RV to Florida and the beach in that time of the year 😂

Good luck man! I’ve been substituting my bike time for the gym and have gained a good 9 pounds since Waco. I’m still averaging about 30 miles a week running 3 or 4 days per week.

I was hoping you would be doing Chattanooga this year but I understand completely. You have to pick your battles. Maybe next year.

Question for the triathlon folks in here. When you’re riding for training, do you wear tri shorts or bike shorts?

I’ve got:

Early March: Fresh (Brookshires) 15k in Tyler

May 10: 70.3 Gulf Coast - Panama City

Oct 25: Marine Corp Marathon

I would be doing a marathon this winter/spring but I’m homeless, living with my parents and in laws while we search for a house.

Im running probably 30-40 miles per week, swimming and cycling once each per week and lifting once or twice a week. I’ll start a more formal routine for Panama City within the next couple weeks. Right now, I’m just doing what I feel like.

I’d like to do another marathon this year. I’ve done 3 in the past, most recent being Dallas BMW in Dec 2022. My time was 3:54:49 which was my PR.

I have my eye on the Cowtown on Feb 23. I live in FW so it would be convenient, plus there are no other big marathons in this region later in the spring. I could maybe wait for OKC but I don’t like Oklahoma.

Not sure if I’m where I want to be from a training standpoint. Holidays and weather have been a hindrance. My longest runs thus far have been 13.1, 14.5, 16.5, and 13.1. I’d like to get to 20+ over the next 3 weeks to actually feel good about it.

I'm running the Houston Marathon Sunday.  I'm gong to take a break from running after that to give my surgically-repaired knee time to fully heal.  I've got a shiny new bike, though, and will be looking for some races.

I'd like to do a 70.3 this year but I'm not going to be able to put in the time on my knee by April (Galveston).

February - Austin Marathon (pacer)
February - Disney Princess Half Marathon (Orlando)
April - Cap 10K (Austin)
September - USATF Masters Half Marathon Championships (did this last year and loved it), TBD location
December - The Marathon Project (Tuscon)

I'll sprinkle in a couple 5Ks and maybe another 10K in there too. Back to the majors in '26 for Boston and Berlin.

Good luck. I hope you’re drinking some electrolytes.

If I didn’t have something going on May 10th I would come to PCB and help you for the weekend. It will be here before you know it.

What do you think you’ve learned from your first 70.3 that you are doing different for training now ?

Bike more. A lot more. Run less. Formal training starts next week. I’ll give myself a 15 week build up, a week taper.

I’m also going to do more long rides with runs after. More rides outside. I’ll probably aim for 90 grams of carbs per hour on the bike instead of 60. More salt tabs. I do think a lot of my issue was nutrition in the second half of the bike and it just crept up on me during the run. Slow down on my brick runs. An issue I have is coming off the bike and immediately going at a 5k pace due to my heart rate already being in zone 3.

You’re going to crush it. Same question to you on your full. More long runs?

For 70.3 this year I will be riding every weekend at least 40-60 miles and running 6- 8 after. Still doing spin twice a week with most of them being about 1:20 and running some after. In previous 70.3’s I just wasn’t biking enough. Speed work will be on Wednesday’s

For the 140.6 I am not changing much. I will still do at least 3 century rides and after one of them I will do a 16 mile run. Somehow for my first 140.6 last year I nailed training and just fucked up not bringing salt tablets on the run.

One thing I have learned over the last 4 years is I need Ironman’s to keep me on a good path otherwise I drink too much. This might be my last full as there is a promotion at work coming up and if I take it my work will get hectic for awhile.

To comment on your last paragraph, I can totally relate to that. If I don’t have a race to concentrate on, I’ll lose focus. I don’t drink, but I’ll get lazy, lose motivation. Having a race allows me to set goals. I may do Waco again if I don’t do MCM in October. Not 100% sure yet.
