I remember last year I was eating my lunch after the race and people were still coming off the bike and I looked at someone and said those poor bastards as it was getting hot. In all seriousness, I absolutely have a ton of respect for someone who takes a little longer and is out there pushing themselves. You are only racing yourself and it is a privilege to be out there.

I have a friend who is 30 minutes faster than me at the Houston marathon and one of my wall coping techniques is to cuss him out for being finished.  Cause fuck that guy and his no longer running ass.

First race in a while. Wanted to break 20 and got close. Not sure if it would have made a difference but off the line I was caught in a real slow group and had to zig and zag quite a bit.

That's an awesome time.  Still, you owe it to yourself to break 20 before moving up.

Ran the galveston 1/2 yesterday.   Not fast, but at least broke my "worst case goal" time of 3 hours.    Felt my hamstring all day long.    It got hot and i even ran into walgreens on the course at about mile 9 and bought some water.   The aid stations weren't great or numerous.

Not a great day, but we got through it - and something i couldn't even think about doing a couple of years ago.  So all good.    Next up some "speed" work over the next couple of months and the Austin 10k.

That sucks (and I find it hilarious) you felt the need to buy your own water in the middle of a half.  Sounds like some shit planning on their part. Congrats - that's a long way to run.

Apple pay on my watch saved me.   It wasn't just that there weren't that many stations, they were stationed unevenly and they were also pushing some off brand electrolyte swill that was gross, pickle juice (also gross) or a cup with 2 tablespoons of water in it.    In retrospect i should have just camped out at the aid station and drank 10 of the tiny sized cups of water until i got what i needed, verses, not being greedy and just grabbing a water and moving on.

Shoot. I ran the Pearland half last year and the provider of port-a-potties didn’t drop the shitters off until I was crossing the finish line. Needless to say I found some bushes that needed a wizzing on before the race. Houston Running Co. is a terrible race sponsor. They misspelled ‘Marathon’ on the race medal and only remade them after a bunch of people called them out on their shit (no shitters, misspelled medals). I thought the misspelling was funny. A half marathon isn’t a big deal for me but it’s a big deal to a lot of people. People are super proud of that medal and it can make someone disappointed if their medal is misspelled. I didn’t think the port a potty thing was a big deal because I shit like clockwork when I wake up in the mornings but a lot of folks aren’t like me. My wife was pisssssed and swore them off even after they sent a $5 off coupon for this years race. She needed to use it before, during and after the race. Fuck Houston Running Co.
