Ok, this is busted right?

Take 1, with the power supply it came with. Which is this thing, it says output is 9v 660 ma. I did for a second think "maybe this is not the power supply it came with", it is used after all and this does not say strymon on it. I actually have an identical one already, I don't know from where, there was a second I thought "didn't I buy a strymon 9v supply recently? this must have been it", but I just double checked and nope, I bought a different one (snark), this ... I don't know where I got the other one from. Either way, this is it with nothing else in the chain going through the positive grid using this power supply

image.thumb.png.6ecff81b8f82471e3b2e5c8178640006.png

this is it using a different guitar, the other identical but different power supply plugged into a different outlet (straight into the wall rather than in that rats nest of shit above), using different instrument cables, again solo straight into the different amp

that dog is so fucking stupid

ok and here's a third time, using one of the 9v cables that has been flawlessly powering my el capistan from the 250ma out on the pedal power 2 for a billion years. it did take a longer time for the noise to show up in this configuration, but there it is.

Yeah, that's no bueno.  I have played my brothers deco a lot and twisted lots of knobs and never heard any rice krispies like that.

I got to play the Knuckles over lunch and recorded a little ditty that started to emerge.  This is a great pedal for that 90s grunge or metal sound.

Do you just stick these amp emulators in front of say an existing tube amp or are you supposed to use some kind of clean power amp?

A few ways to do it.  The pedals are loaded with cabinet impulse responses which can be turned on/off.  So you can have the cabinet impulse response on and go direct to a clean amp/speaker or PA and it sounds like what I recorded.  This is basically what I do when I play live.

What is also possible with a traditional guitar amp (but I haven't tried) is to use a 4 cable wiring method to allow you to use your amp as normal, but also to use one of these pedals with your amps power amp and cabinet.  In this case, you would want the cabinet impulse responses off because your normal amp is providing it.  This essentially adds a new channel to your existing amp.  The attached diagram shows how its wired up.  Activate the UAFX pedal, and you bypass your amps preamp and you wind up with the pedals sound getting amplified by your amp's power amp and rendered by its speaker.

All connectivity options are discussed here https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/13963018486932-Connecting-Your-UAFX-Pedals

Interesting. I wonder how that Dumble emulator would sound if I just stuck it in front of my Dual Showman (which is just a twin head).

The Enigmatic (Dumble) is the one of these that I don’t own, so no direct experience with it specifically, but I own all the others and they pretty squarely hit their target.

You need three pedals for that first one.

the stryforce

Having an issue with the deco, which is the new one. I saved $50 by buying it used from Sweetwater, which I’m now regretting because it is having an issue… basically kind of a crackling interference type noise in the background. I'm assuming this is power supply shit - my stupid pedalboard has been pretty static for years, the two older strymons (cap and flint) being powered by the 250ma spots on the pedalpower supply. I have the deco just running off of the supply it came with (which.... does look like what the pedal should have come with). I haven't had the time to do extensive troubleshooting, but I'm hoping... grounding issue? Maybe i'll try and record it and see if you guys can help troubleshoot.

Strymon website says it needs 300mA minimum.  Maybe it's just not getting enough current?

Do you have a Strymon power supply from one of the other two?  I'd try substituting one of those first.

A little help here from the pedal experts, please.

Bought a Les Paul as a gift for my son. Now, Gibson wants to give me 2 free Maestro pedals.

Thats all great and all but there are about 10 options and what the f do I know?

Kid has Boss Amp with tone studio and a wah pedal.  He’s happy - doesn’t want anything else.

Im thinking I grab the overdrive and the fuzz pedals for him to have, but if anyone feels strongly about this - speak ye now.

As the once-owner of a 70s Maestro Phaser MP1, I'd think if it even approached being that good in an analog pedal, then, yeah.  Easily the most musical phaser I've ever had.  But it looked like a space heater and liked to shock me.  Then again, it had a foot-adjustable wheel control called "Balls."  TLDR: Check out the Phaser.  But it's a bit different because it's modeled after the PS1 Maestro Phaser.  Still . . .

Damn.  I should have rehoused that thing somehow.

I vote overdrive and delay based on whats in that collection, without knowing anything about these specific effects models.  You say Boss amp, is that like a Katana with built in effects?  If so, maybe someone here knows the amp and what effects might be less great in the amp that the pedals might be an upgrade from.

Also, the type of music he's into might provide insight into what direction you should go.  If he wants the guitar to play chugga chugga metal/djent riffage songs, well, I wouldn't recommend an overdrive.

I would definitely get the compressor as 1 of them

Really?  Curious as to your reasoning.  My number 1 pedal recommendation would be a looper for the practice possibilities, but no loopers on that list.

Mostly because I would assume a Boss amp has all the other stuff built in

Boss Katana 50 amp with air step.  Basically use laptop to dial in effects, use 4 button pedal to on/off them.  Software has unlimited options but I’m sure legit pedals through a tube amp is more authentic than tone simulators or whatever the hell this is.

Wah pedal between guitar and air step.

Right now he’s playing Red Hot Chili Peppers but it is ever changing.

Next up will be buying a nicer amp so not married to current amp.

Not that we need all that but once you get locked into a serious collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

We played with a PRS MT15 at guitar center and that sumbitch was loud.  Likely louder than his Boss Katana 50.  I predict we have a tube amp before Memorial Day and I’ll need guidance on combo or head/cabinet, etc.

Also, how do you match a cabinet to a head?

So… 2 free Maestro pedals.  Leader in the clubhouse looks like  Overdrive, Delay and Compressor.

Go for a 100 watt Marshall head and a 4x12 cab. Your neighbors will appreciate it.

We got 2 kinds of neighbors.

1.  They'll think it's funny and awesome that our son has a loud ass amp, they support him because he's a cool kid, and they're fun.

2.  They're fake, they do the bare minimum to keep up appearances, and they're certain that if only I would move out, the Rockefellers and Jeff Bezos would move in and take their rightful places with the royalty and stuckuppers.

For both, I feel very strongly that more wattage is the answer.

"Thank you, your pedals will arrive in 6-8 weeks."

Yes, they're "free," I guess I shouldn't complain.  However, if Amazon can get me a sex robot, a gallon of coconut oil, and a Spanish senorita costume to my house in 72 hours or less...

Why 6-8 weeks (42-56 days)?

Amazon.com: Women's Spanish Senorita Costume, Red and Black Spanish Dancer Dress, Spain Celebration Dress Halloween Outfit : Clothing, Shoes & Jewelry

I'm not questioning how you found that link, but I would kinda like to know because I guess it's a fallback if my VPN fails.
