Ok, this is busted right?

Take 1, with the power supply it came with. Which is this thing, it says output is 9v 660 ma. I did for a second think "maybe this is not the power supply it came with", it is used after all and this does not say strymon on it. I actually have an identical one already, I don't know from where, there was a second I thought "didn't I buy a strymon 9v supply recently? this must have been it", but I just double checked and nope, I bought a different one (snark), this ... I don't know where I got the other one from. Either way, this is it with nothing else in the chain going through the positive grid using this power supply

this is it using a different guitar, the other identical but different power supply plugged into a different outlet (straight into the wall rather than in that rats nest of shit above), using different instrument cables, again solo straight into the different amp

that dog is so fucking stupid

ok and here's a third time, using one of the 9v cables that has been flawlessly powering my el capistan from the 250ma out on the pedal power 2 for a billion years. it did take a longer time for the noise to show up in this configuration, but there it is.

Yeah, that's no bueno.  I have played my brothers deco a lot and twisted lots of knobs and never heard any rice krispies like that.

I got to play the Knuckles over lunch and recorded a little ditty that started to emerge.  This is a great pedal for that 90s grunge or metal sound.

Do you just stick these amp emulators in front of say an existing tube amp or are you supposed to use some kind of clean power amp?

A few ways to do it.  The pedals are loaded with cabinet impulse responses which can be turned on/off.  So you can have the cabinet impulse response on and go direct to a clean amp/speaker or PA and it sounds like what I recorded.  This is basically what I do when I play live.

What is also possible with a traditional guitar amp (but I haven't tried) is to use a 4 cable wiring method to allow you to use your amp as normal, but also to use one of these pedals with your amps power amp and cabinet.  In this case, you would want the cabinet impulse responses off because your normal amp is providing it.  This essentially adds a new channel to your existing amp.  The attached diagram shows how its wired up.  Activate the UAFX pedal, and you bypass your amps preamp and you wind up with the pedals sound getting amplified by your amp's power amp and rendered by its speaker.

All connectivity options are discussed here https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/13963018486932-Connecting-Your-UAFX-Pedals

Interesting. I wonder how that Dumble emulator would sound if I just stuck it in front of my Dual Showman (which is just a twin head).

The Enigmatic (Dumble) is the one of these that I don’t own, so no direct experience with it specifically, but I own all the others and they pretty squarely hit their target.

You need three pedals for that first one.

Having an issue with the deco, which is the new one. I saved $50 by buying it used from Sweetwater, which I’m now regretting because it is having an issue… basically kind of a crackling interference type noise in the background. I'm assuming this is power supply shit - my stupid pedalboard has been pretty static for years, the two older strymons (cap and flint) being powered by the 250ma spots on the pedalpower supply. I have the deco just running off of the supply it came with (which.... does look like what the pedal should have come with). I haven't had the time to do extensive troubleshooting, but I'm hoping... grounding issue? Maybe i'll try and record it and see if you guys can help troubleshoot.

Strymon website says it needs 300mA minimum.  Maybe it's just not getting enough current?

Do you have a Strymon power supply from one of the other two?  I'd try substituting one of those first.
