It's a low game where you get three chances to toss and redrraw cards, and 75432 is the best possible hand.

76432 is the second best hand.

The one guy was dealt the second best hand, and the other guy drew to the nuts.

In hold em it would be like flopping 4 of a kind and the other guy hitting runner runner strait flush.

The odds of starting with the 2nd best hand is 1 in 2,500. Arieh started with 6 5 3 for his 3 keepers. If he kept those 3 cards during all three draws he is drawing dead. Just keeping the 6 would keep him drawing dead(of course Arieh doesn’t know this). So he was to draw EXACTLY a 2 and a 4 by the 2nd draw. His hand has to be exactly 6 5 4 3 2 - a straight. IF AND ONLY IF he has 6 5 4 3 2 will he throw away the 6. Then, once he throws away the 6 he has to draw one of the three 7s.  So he has to draw “perfect” to force him to throw away the 6.

Just to illustrate, if he draws a 7 and a 2 after the 1st draw Arieh would have 7 6 5 3 2. He would NEVER split that hand and would be dead. So he has to avoid drawing “second best” on 1st so he draws EXACTLY a straight on 2nd draw. 6 5 4 3 2 is the ONLY path to throwing away the 6.

Blacklab probably has the closest Hold ‘em comparison but the crazy thing about this hand is that a lot of hands that Arieh would love to have after the 1st draw would leave Arieh stone DEAD.

Steps needed:

1.  Arieh can’t draw a 7 or 8 on 1st draw because he would definitely keep those. He might keep a 9 too. Keeping any of those cards would have him drawing dead.

2.  After the 2nd draw he has to have exactly 2 3 4 5 6. No other hand would cause Arieh to discard the 6. Straights count so he has to break the straight.

3. The 6 has to be replaced by a 7.

It’s not just the 3 outer at end.  ALOT of steps have to happen exactly as described to get to the path of discarding the 6 and drawing live.

Bryce Yockey(the guy who lost the bad beat 2-7 hand) and Connor Drinan are among the final 13 in the $10K Omaha hi/lo. Connor is famous for the worst recorded bad beat before this. He’s the guy who lost with AA against AA in the 1st $1M one drop. Would be funny if they got heads up and it was decided via a horrific bad beat.

2 limpers to me and I make it $15 on button w 6h6d. 2 callers. $45 pot.

Qh6c5c. Checks to me and I $20. UTG makes it $60 w $120 more behind. CO calls. I shove. UTG snaps. CO then shows me his 4c3c before reluctantly calling his last $225.

UTG shows 55.

So after that brutal hand $2k plus I posted about a few weeks ago, i've been murdered the last 4 times I've gone and played.  The 7 times leading up that day I had ended up around +$1850.  After the loss of the big hand, plus the last 4 visits Ive lost about $1700.  so techically +$150 for the 12 visits, but obviously not a good result.

A few hands I flat out fucked up on my own, but I did have a $400 set over set loss.

As well as having Ac7h on a Ah-7c-2c board that I was button & 3 bet to $35 prior and C-Bet $60 on the flop that was called by one guy.   10c is the Turn card, he checks, I bet $100, he raises to $200, and I go all in for another ~$200, he snaps... w ThTd.     Yeah, great flop call there.  But hey, ive got 11 outs lets get one....    nope.

after the 5th straight losing session I put myself in a 10 day timeout.   Played Wed  eve &  yesterday starting at 11a to take advantage of their early bird 2 free hours deal.  Did decent.

On wed, I plan to do a 2 hours session.  I sat down with $300,   2nd hand dealt I'm UTG  w/ Jc9c, I limp, the guy to my immediate left makes it $15, and there are 3 other callers.  since I know I complete the action, I just call.

flop comes Qs-Tc-8c.....

in my world thats fucking yahtzee.   I bet out $25,   guy to left makes it $50, and there is one caller before I act.   There are a lot of cards that come out that either kill my action, or have the potential to totally fuck me if its not one of the 2 straight flush cards.  And as I have said before, these tables call light a LOT. so fuck it, theres already something like $190 in the pot. I shove all $260 left in front of me, and I get snap called by the guy on my left (good sign- right?), other guy folds 5c-6c face up  and the guy to my left has.... AcKc?   Tourney, sure, that makes sense,  Normally Im folding there with that hand the action in cash . But OK.  ANNNND we hold.  +$380 on that hand.

I do end up losing about $120 in a hand where I river a straight, but my opp rivered a full house.

Then I notice The Dude (TD) at my table, hes been there the whole time, with like $500 in front of him.  I notice him because in 2 back to back hands, he does what I and most of the table had perceived to be a hero call with bottom pair both times, and he was right both times.   Turns out thats not the case, as the eve goes on, I very quickly realize The Dude isnt just a calling station, he will call just about any bet no matter the size with ANY pair.

I think 2 or 3 others at the table started to figure it out as we all scrambled to be in a hand with this guy.  He quickly loses around $200 and my first encounter with him happens where Im on the button with A4hh.  flop comes a complete miss rainbow  with all cards under a  nine, with 1 heart, TD bets out $10, and I decide to float 1 card to see if I can get a heart draw.  Nope... A instead.   TD bets out $15, I raise to $45, and he snaps, river looks to be a blank, and he checks, I bet out $45 again  ( I hadnt yet fully realized the depths he would go on the call) he snaps with 3rd pair, and I take the pot.

A few hands later TD gets felted on a pot that pre-river was only around $50. The board had run out  2-4-8-8-2 where the first bet is $50, he calls, the button shoves all in. and the guy to my left who had made it $50... shows me hes got a 2 in his hand (doesnt show the rest of the table)... and folds.   TD snaps with...... 3-4o   obviously button had an 8 and takes it.

TD rebuys for $300.  He loses a few small hands, and makes it $15 to go on in LP on a hand where I am the BB w/ 7h-8h, there are 2 callers before I act, I call ( like I said I wanted to get into hands with him), UTG who had limped, also calls.  Flop is 7-7-A rainbow.    yay.  I check, UTG bets $10,   TD makes it $30, I take a good 45 seconds to make the call.  UTG calls as well (UTG only has $40 behind, so no fucking clue why he doesnt got all in) .  Turn is a 4th suit J,  so no flushes possible.   I check, as does UTG.  Now TD bets out $60.  I have no doubt in my mind he's got an ace.  and since I know now hes calling anyway,  and UTG is basically out of chips anyway, I shove.  UTG folds showing AT after TD snap calls.  TD has AJ... which kinda surprised me he was that strong.  I avoid the 3 outer, and take down the pot adding a little over $330 to my stack.

TD rebuys for $300 and loses it all on the next hand to another player.

TD rebuys again this time for $200.  He holds out for about 30 mins before getting felted again.

TD rebuys again for $200.  He also moves to my immediate left because the seat is open.   very first hand after this rebuy- I am UTG w/ ATdd.  I limp, TD makes it his standard $15,  one of the blinds calls and I call.

Flop is Jd-Ts-2d.  Pretty damn good for my hand.   blind checks, and I decide to bet huge because TD is calling if hes got anything.  I bet out $100 into a $45 pot..... he snaps.   turn is a  blank low card and since TD only has $85 left, I shove, he calls..... with 8c9c.  And I avoid the 6 outer.  That loss finally causes TD to get up from the table. It also happens to coincide with me running out of time on the table.  So I rack up for $1105.  Bought in for $300, spent $20 on tips, and all my time was paid for by chips from my stack, so +$785 on the day.

Thursday was different, i got there at 11a to take advantage of their "play 4 hours get 2 hours back" deal if you are there at 11a. Buy in for $300, am never down. First hour I slowly chip up to about $350. No real hands to speak of. 2nd hour I make a small move on the button with rags as I 3 bet  to $25 and get 2 callers, who both promptly folded to my $30 c-bet.  Get it up to about $500 when the first real interesting hand happens.   Double board $5 bomb pot.   8 handed.  I will put out the board below, but it checked to me, and I bet $15 any only get 1 caller. Turn cards come out, and i bet out $25, villain calls.  River comes out, and villain bets out $61, and I shove.   here are the boards

top board  9-J-2-T-K   no flush

bottom board Q-3-3-6-6   spade flush possible

Ive got Q-6 off in my hand.  basically bet the top pair on the bottom, caught 2 higher pair on the turn, and rivered  a boat plus caught the straight up top.   Even if he has QQ, Im getting quartered, but not felted.   Turns out he's got Q9.   and after a minute, he makes the call.  so I got 3/4 of the pot.

No major hands over the next 90 mins, I basically hold at around $900, and we are getting close to the 4 hour mark.  another bomb pot, this one Im sitting with 9c-8c.    Top board is 8-T-3 on the flop, bottom board is Q-J-T rainbow.    villain bets out $25, there are 2 callers, I make it $100. villain snap calls, other 2 fold.

Top board drops a low card (cant remember which), and bottom board throws up an Ace.

obviously not happy with the ace, but villain didnt look pleased either.  villain has around $200 behind, and theres already close to $300 in the pot.   Im drawing dead to KT,   but a decent chance that even if I lose the straight on the bottom, the 8 is good for now since there are 2 tens on the boards.    Villain checks. and I dont think hes trapping, so I shove.   He tanks.  He tanks for a no bullshit 3+ minutes.  at this point I'm obviously good on the bottom because a K snap calls, so in my mind the worst thats happening is I spit the pot.  I can visibly see the rest of the table getting very, very restless, and huffing and puffing.  and normally I just let the guy make a bad call, but I finally call for clock  (which btw, villain had no idea that I could call the clock on him- he asked the dealer if I was allowed to do that).   It counts down to 15 seconds before he folds QJ face up.     So I was in good shape.  He needed to spike one of his 4 outs on either the bottom board, or top board to chop,  There are 3 nines that can hit the top for him to chop, and then there is the K on the bottom to cause a quartering or a chop.   So he did have the possibility of a miracle scoop, so Im happy to take the pot as is.  play until my 4 hours are up and get up with $1015.  I had bought in for $300 another $20 worth of time in cash, another $20 for the tips, and I finish the day +$675

So thats a nice 2 day return to respect.  Im still down the last 7 sessions combined. but at least I am off the beatdown snide.

AUS - nice write up but you should be ECSTATIC to have him call with QJ on the double bomb pot. Wanting to “take the money” when you have 60% equity is understandable but not when villain has to hit a 4 outer followed by a 6 outer to scoop. That’s less than 2% odds.

Nice sessions!  Couple notes on the bolded:

1) It basically never makes sense to call off in a tourney but to fold the same hand in cash. In fact, if anything, it's the opposite because ICM and "tourney life" have value whereas you can unlimited rebuy in cash.  Also, tourney or cash, the guy has 12 outs to the nuts plus two overcards, no one is or should be folding that.

2) Jamming there was bad.  Just call so UTG can call his 40 off.  Then jam the river and TD calls always. Jamming turn tells UTG he's beat and to save the 40 for literally no gain for you.

How not to steal chips ...

Over at 2015 World Champion Joe McKeehen's table in the Brasilia Red section, a player has been disqualified in the 2019 WSOP Main Event after not even one hour of play on Day 1c.

According to several players at the table, after winning a small pot, the player in question reached out to his left-hand neighbor's stack as well and scooped up his entire stack in the process to add it to his. Allegedly, the player did so with a smile on his face.

The player subsequently got disqualified for stealing another person's chips at the table and will not be active in the 2019 Main Event anymore. It was Jack Effel who came over and escorted the player out of the tournament area. His chips will be taken out of play, while his buy-in stays in the prize pool.

@TXSooner518 The shoe thrower exposed Q3o after his allin. Player in SB had 55. Is that a call in first level of WSOP? I think it is but am genuinely curious.

Over at table #317 in the Pavilion Yellow section, a massive incident occurred just before the break involving a player that subsequently got DQ'd from the tournament. According to the table, the player went all in blind before flipping over his hand, revealing the   .

"I'm all-in blind! Look, I'm blind everybody" the all-in player yelled as he covered his eyes and turned around. He then lowered his pants and mooned the table. Looks like Ivey dropped kicked his chips today:

Day 1c of the 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event is a big one. In fact, the turnout is so big that all other events – such as daily deepstacks, satellites, etc. – have been canceled to make room for the masses.

Players are being seated up at the El Burro tables, in Rio’s Main Poker Room, and even inside the abandoned bowling turned storage room that hasn’t been used since the Big 50. What’s more, no one is immune from being seated in the outskirt tables. Even 10-time bracelet winner Phil Ivey was relegated to the bowling alley overflow room, though not for long.

In Level 1 (100/200/200), Ivey was already below starting with around 25,000 in chips at the start of a hand. Those remaining chips went to Jeffrey Chang in the aftermath of a three-way pot.

Chang opened to 500 from early position, Hirotaka Nakanishi three-bet on his immediate left, and Ivey cold called the three-bet from the button. Chang came along and the flop came down {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{10-Spades}.

Chang checked, Nakanishi bet 1,600 and Ivey called. Chang then put in the check-raise to 6,500, Nakanishi called, and Ivey went all in over the top for his last 17,500.

Chang shoved the rest of his stack, and Nakanishi got out of the way.

Jeffrey Chang: {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Phil Ivey: {a-Spades}{4-Spades}

Chang was a 67 percent favorite with top two against Ivey's nut flush draw. The {j-Clubs} turn was no help to Ivey and neither was the {3-Hearts} river.

Just like that Ivey’s run in the 2019 WSOP Main Event came to a quick and unexpected end.

appreciate the notes on the folks who replied.  Im not complaining about the QJ bomb pot hand.  obviously long term I want the call, but I would be lying if I said I wasnt happy taking down a $250 pot without risk.

played again today.  I know my reputation on the tables is pretty tight and aggressive when I have it.  So I tried to play a session opening up my range a bit.

bought in for $300,  first hand I play I get 9-7 of spades, I limp in MP, old guy to my right makes it $15, there are 3 callers before I decide to call because hell, it worked first hand yesterday.

flop comes Th-8h-6c.  nice flop,  its checked to me and I bet out $25 again,  old guy raises to $60. and everyone else folds.  I decide to slow play it and just call.

turn is Ah.  I check to see what he does, and OG checks.  River is a fucking 2h.  I check again. OG announces hes got to do a heart check, he looks at his hand and throws out $100.  I dont think there is any fucking chance OG is doing this on a bluff, he looks and acts like the typical old man playing poker.  and I fold, he flips over Qh to show he got there.

down $75 on the first hand.  around 3 hands later I am the SB.   UTG makes it a live $5 straddle. Literally every single person calls the $5.  Its my turn in SB and I see KTdd.   I need to thin the herd here and I make it $35.  Normally this move knocks all but 1-2 folks out.  However.....   OG to my left snap calls, UTG calls.... and then the whole fucking table except 1 person call.  There is literally $285 in the pot before the flop.

I've only got $188 left, and I make the decision that, as the first to act if I hit any part of this flop, or its all under cards, Im shoving the flop.

Flop comes Tx-Qd-9d,  its about the best I can hope for  and I shove.  It  works all the way to the CO, who I have played with multiple times,  and he calls.   Lets see if I can get there.   I miss the straight and flush draws, but a K on the turn ends up giving me a winning 2 pair.   better to be lucky than good.  so basically a triple up on the hand.

that $35 raise I made seemed to change the table, for like the next 15 or so hands, multiple folks made it $35 to go pre flop and they were getting called 2-3 times.  I avoided all those having only limped $2-5 a few times.

Then comes the ugliest hand Ive seen in a long time- did not involve me.  Live straddle of $5, 2nd straddle of $10.  There are 3 callers (incl the button) before the $5 live straddle makes  it $75.   $10 straddle folds, other 3 call.  Live straddle is 2nd in chips at the table with around $700,  Button has over $1k, the other 2 callers have no more than $250 behind (just nutso how often these folks have to pay to see the flop)

The flop comes Kh-3h-3x.  Its checked around. turn comes Qh.   Live straddle bets $100, MP shoves all in for something like $190.    Button takes a very long time and calls.  straddle  calls.  River is an effective blank.   Live straddle  Bets out $250 into a dry side pot. Button shoves all in and live straddle calls.....

Live straddle has K-K... MP has the Ace high flush. and the button has....  3-3.   jesus what  a fucking hand.

I play for another hour.... manage to lose almost $200 bluffing into the flopped nut flush.. doh.

But I do get back $100 pretty quickly with AK on a K high flop.  after about 2 hours I am out of time.

I  ask if APP have a time bonus if I buy more than a few hours.  turns out if I buy $250 of time, I get $50 in bonus time. so I buy $250 and get the deal.

I play for about an hour and final cashout is $705.   $300 buyin $20 in tips, and $250 for time.    +$135 more than I walked in with and the next 30 hours covered.
