All I know is lidar costs are falling fast as volume picks up. I have seen multiple references online speculating Lidar sensors in the $200-300 range in 2025.

The iPad Pro has Lidar sensors in the camera. Granted, the distance is fairly limited, to around 5 meters, but it's really accurate. We have used it for some some projects recently.  So, lower grade Lidar sensors are probably $50 or less already.

Rumor has it Tesler had to halt cybertruck sales because the glue holding the stainless steel panels onto the piece of shit is failing. What a laughable fucking disaster that thing is.

Quote

The glue holding the pickup truck’s stainless steel exterior in place is failing for many Tesla customers, causing its sides to protrude. It’s the latest of numerous instances of build quality issues with the Cybertruck, a once-promising vehicle now beset by problems.

In the the latest sign the Tesla Cybertruck risks becoming Elon Musk’s first full-blown flop, sales of the pickup have been halted amid growing cases of metal panelling falling off.

On Thursday, EV enthusiast site Electrek reported Tesla delivery agents as saying all outbound vehicles have been stopped amid concerns that the glue holding the exterior stainless steel panelling in place is failing.

The issue isn’t new but it has remained unaddressed. Owners living in cold weather conditions in particular have been warning about it for weeks, posting images of sharp-edged metal trim protruding from their vehicles and flapping in the wind while driving. Some have even taken to reporting the problem to the federal traffic safety authority NHTSA, Road & Track reported last month.

But an image circulated recently showing the entire front bumper dangling loosely from the body may have tipped the scale.

Well there was actually a protest at the Tesla I assume sales office, at Pond Springs and 183 this morning.  Actually had maybe 60-85 people when I drove by, to Leaf Nursery.  Looked like more cars had parked and I realized I needed to U-Turn to avoid the congestion.  About that time I saw some dude in a suit in the back of a Tesla with a Bullhorn headed to defend Musk and Tesla.  I guess the very popular "Don't buy a Swasticar," has come over from Europe.

sure wish I had bought that March 21, $560 put for $150 I chickened out on.

I see Elmo is pissy that certain Canadian province(s) have announced Teslas are no longer eligible for EV rebates. So he is throwing his normal fit, threatening to cut off star link & Space X from the 51st state

And he had no reason why anyone hates him so much.

There going to be a shit ton of used Tesla’s for sale but I’m not buying one even though I need to get another car. I almost did a few years ago. Fuck him

Yup. Any out of pocket repair work that you have done at Tesla facilities puts money in that human buttplug's pocket. Hell, with the marked up replacement part prices Tesler charges, you're funding that dude even if you have work done at a 3rd party shop. Fuck funding that psycho.

I’m kinda dumb so tell me if I’m wrong… Last round of reporting Tesla boosted their finances by marking up their crypto holdings to the inflated market value. Assuming crypto stays in the ballpark of today, about 15-20% down from ATH a couple months ago, is Tesla gonna be totally turbo fucked updating those holdings in addition to shit sales next quarterly report?

That was Alex Jones. You should have stopped at HEB, bought every tomato they had, and gone back and passed them out to the protesters.

Probably just easier to issue an executive order stipulating Tesla no longer is required to report financials as a matter of national security. Elon will however give quarterly updates on the spectacular success of FSD, his baby mama counts, and his latest conquests playing Path of Exile 2.

Tesla reported $36B of cash and $1B of net digital assets, using last reporting date is ~10,000BTC. Total assets $122B.

Marking to current prices for crypto reduces that down to $895M of net digital assets, reducing their total assets to $121.9B.

Musk forced to halt Cybertruck deliveries as parts fall off
Elon Musk’s Tesla has been forced to halt sales of its electric Cybertruck pickup amid mounting concern about metal panels falling off the supposedly indestructible vehicles.

Customers posting on the Cybertruck Owners Club website – as well as on Mr Musk’s own X, formerly Twitter – said they had been told by agents that deliveries were on hold.

Electric vehicle-enthusiast website Electrek said the decision was taken amid increasing instances of trim and panels “flying off the supposedly ‘bulletproof’ electric truck.”

Tesla is done in Germany: 94% say they won’t buy a Tesla car
A survey of over 100,000 Germans revealed that 94% won’t buy a Tesla vehicle. It doesn’t bode well for the automaker, whose sales had already been falling off a cliff in the important European market.

In 2024, Tesla saw a 41% reduction in sales in Germany compared to 2023 despite EV sales surging 27% during the year.

This has already raised red flags about Tesla’s future in Germany, but it is nothing compared to Tesla’s performance so far in 2025.

Tesla’s sales were down 70% in the first two months of 2025, and again, that’s compared to its already poor performance in 2024.

About that FSD...

C'mon Elon, nobody forced you to choose LIDAR against camera sensors.  Just tell us your cars are cheap.

Despite the title, he didn’t use FSD. In the different video rolls, he either used an older functionality (AP) from a different tech stack, or none at all.

Luminar, the Lidar company whose employee was in the video helping produce the test, promoted the video on its webpage. And then they immediately took it down.

Autopilot on HW3?  That scenario is even worse and will let you run a redlight unless you're familiar with its limitations.

They probably shouldn't name it "autopilot" then, just like they shouldn't name it "full self drive"

Someone could make a video about that AP... but your description in the thread and the videos title doesnt match its content.

Elon/Tesla-simp friend in my group chat also brought all that up when I shared that video (I was honestly more interested in him sneaking the lidar into space mountain and possibly getting skull fucked by Mickey Mouse, the Tesla crashing into the wall Will-E-Coyote style was just the sprinkles on top) and while it does not appear to be a very fair scientific test/comparison, believe there is still some validity to the argument of Lidar vs Optical Cameras right now. The Lidar sensor based "self driving" system does seem to have an edge over Teslas camera based system as they are not as easily fooled by things like rain and fog (and possibly well painted walls...). I'm sure eventually with enough money dumped into the AI/Computer Vision the cameras will prob get pretty close to parity with Lidar but just not there yet.

But of course, Elon/Tesla-simps don't care about having a reasonable discussion about Lidar vs Cameras and I'm just a hater...

Isn’t the cyber truck only assembled in the Austin factory? Someone here must work for Tesla or know someone who does. What are the production numbers like now?

Didn’t ArmyBrat say his son did some stuff there?

The validity of the argument wasn't tested because the product, vision based FSD, wasn't tested. The video creator admitted that yesterday.

When his video was challenged with suspicion, he posted a "raw footage" in response.  That footage turned out to be from a different event. He admitted the video was staged across multiple weeks.

That's all straight from the source, independent of what you think of your friends in your group chat.

Pretty impressive how clear and consistent the response to Mark Rober has been from TSLA bag holders. If y'all are so confident, recreate it yourself and prove him wrong lol.

Video only is never gonna work as well a sensor fusion with LIDAR. Thats been the state of the art since like 2022, and the tech is not expensive - especially on the scale of car component costs. ESPECIALLY if he's already charging $10,000 for buggy software that kills first responders cops and firefighters and paramedics because the cameras couldn't see them in time.

It's predictable at this point how quickly the team dynamics come into play to find a reason to just not engage with thinking and be outraged instead. FSD is a perfect product and MUST NOT be challenged!!!!

Just out of curiosity, do you own a Tesla or TSLA stock?

Tesla FSD (call it whatever you want) is unreal.

The over-the-air updates even in the last few months have been game changing.

I can go anywhere to anywhere with zero manual wheel, brake or acceleration assistance. I’ve been using it 10x more than this time last year.

Just watch. Please bump this thread when they are no longer leading the EV race.

There is nothing the argue here. Take your emotions to the cloak room.

Leaps and bounds in the last couple of months alone.  The last OTA update (12.6.4) now turns into my driveway and pulls into my garage to park without prompting.  And I don't even get the full set of v13 features since my 21 Model 3 only has HW3.

Alphabet spinning off a business that aims to compete with Starlink.

Quote

Taara’s current tech involves firing a narrow beam of light from one traffic light-sized terminal to another, with transmission of up to 20 gigabits per second over 20km (almost 12.5 miles) distances. The terminals can be mounted on towers, and are quicker and cheaper to install than laying fiber — especially when you need a signal to reach an island, cross a river, or arrive at some otherwise hard-to-reach location. Last month the company announced that it has condensed its tech into a much more compact chip, which it expects to launch in a product in 2026.

While Taara’s tower-based optical technology works differently to Starlink’s satellites, it’s setting itself up as a rival in the business of connecting rural areas. “We can offer 10, if not 100 times more bandwidth to an end user than a typical Starlink antenna, and do it for a fraction of the cost,” founder Mahesh Krishnaswamy told Wired.

does this change the facts i've discussed or do your facts require personal motive?
