Here you are in the txk and no comment on PG whipping ass?

Actually in Frisco but grew up in PG. Went to their first round game and plan on going to the game Friday at The Star. They seem to be rolling pretty good. I know nothing about Greenwood but they seem to be pretty good.

Anyone know anything about Katy Taylor? How did a 9-5 team get out of that region?

Anybody know anything about Carthage?

Katy Taylor has put it together the last month.  They have two incredible O-line players in Hayden Connor (hook 'em) and Bryce Foster.  Their 5 losses are a bit deceiving, as these came at the hands of Houston-area powerhouses Katy, Atascocita, Tompkins, Dickinson and Mayde Creek.  Brutal schedule, as those first four teams are arguably the best 6A D1 teams in the area aside from #1 North Shore.

carthage is the LT/Katy/North Shore of 4A.

They is stout.  Always. Word on the street is that there will be no rest any time soon for East Texas foes.  Their Sophs and Freshmen are said to be possibly the best they have ever had, at a school with a long tradition of contending for titles.

My brother just texted me and said that Lampasas WR Jaylon Porter was just on the MNF segment called "You got Mossed" for a TD catch he made against Liberty Hill. I saw the catch yesterday. Thought it was pretty impressive. I didn't see the segment, but man that's gotta be a pretty cool thing to wind up on MNF.

Don’t know if they had anything on it, but Jaxon Smith-Ngiba looked like Randy Moss on his first TD against Allen a couple of weeks ago.  Spectacular.

My gosh that's so awesome to see. My friend I graduated with called me to tell me about it too. Glad to see my hometown be able to see some really good football!

Good luck to you guys this week, I would love to see y’all take down Carthage.  Can’t wait to watch this one.

I am thinking about possibly flying to Houston to get to see this one. It's been 33 years since the last and only other state semi-final appearance in school history in 1986.

They played it about a 100 times during the game I went to a couple of weeks ago.  Wife and I were singing it all the way home.  That is one catchy little song.

I'm a Badger is a modified version of I'm a Jayhawk. I loved hearing it as a kid. Been a long time since I last heard it. Good memories though.

The drumline has this really good cadence that they would play when I was in school. I believe they still play the whole thing and it's good. It's the only non-HBCU or inner city high school cadence I have ever liked.

Lampasas is playing Carthage in New Caney Tx,

2.5 hours from Carthage, 3.5 from Lampasas. Lampasas wanted to play in McLane in Waco but Carthage said no. Stadium in New Caney only seats 8000, Lampasas had over 6,000 against Liberty Hill yesterday. Not bad for a town of 10,000. First time since 87 they made the state semifinal.

I can understand why Carthage would not want to play there. The whole town would show up. I think Lampasas has a little less than 8000 residents, but that does not include Kempner residents in the East end of Lampasas County.

I can say this. I still vividly remember the 93 run when they filled up the home side of Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos with locals and people who wanted to see a team throwing the ball around the yard. A Permian fan showed up to the game. I was a freshman who suited up for that huge 94 upset win against LBJ and the whole town came to Temple. They will travel to Houston and I would not be shocked if school is cancelled. They absolutely love football there and they love what Troy Rogers has done. They may not win against this juggernaut from Carthage, who is the gold standard for winning in Texas, but it will not be because of lack of support.

WTF??

There's just not an obvious intermediate neutral choice.  Kyle Field is just a bit over an  hour from  Katy (advantage Taylor), and the San Antonio stadiums are just over an hour from Westlake (advantage Westlake, especially with Westlake having just played two playoff games in San Antonio).  My guess is that they each decided that Waco would give neither team that much of an advantage.   It's an hour closer to Westlake, but still enough of a pain to slog through Austin and Williamson County to keep the just mildly curious from the fan base from making the trip.   Also, the drive from Katy to Waco is pretty straightforward heading up to 290 over to  Hempstead and then to Waco on 6.

There were a ton of fans there on Saturday from Burnet, Marble Falls, Gatesville, etc.  All sitting on the Lampasas side.

Don't jinx the run. Stay home and watch online. ;)

Carthage is legit.  Their OLine is huge.  We'll see how they move and their stamina.  QB is big 6'4 guy.  Defense is big and fast.  Lampasas will look small in comparison.  But so did Liberty Hill last season.  Have to just come out and outsmart and out-execute them.  Whitehead is good on the run.  I think we'll see a lot of designed roll-outs.  All those Go routes Lampasas has been running lately may not work as well vs. Carthage.  I think we'll see more complex routes this week.

I do not wish to jinx them...lol.

I also remember LBJ's offensive line outweighing the front seven for the Badgers in 94. We won that 20-14 by stopping a Statue of Liberty play on 3rd down inside the 20. Troy Rogers seems to be a younger version of Rod Hess from what I gather. That was his head coach. Hess was innovative in throwing the ball 30 years ago.

I have seen two Carthage title teams in person in 2008 and 2010. They are absolutely intimidating to see in-person. The size for high school athletes is ridiculous. Lampasas has speed from what I have been told and this is not a typical David-Goliath match-up. I would love to see this if I can make it from Manhattan.

He’s always shown the valley a lot of love, seems to go to a handful of games down there every year. I also learned he was one of the original posters on 956 sports forum like 10 years ago, and still posts there sporadically. The guy just loves HSFB.

Aside from always supporting the Chaps, beating teams from San Antonio provides me with a little extra joy. As we supported my daughter's various teams over the years, San Antonio fans always took the prize for being the worst fans. They would always talk crap at our players, our fans, and the refs and have openly cheered when our players were injured.

I've seen them escorted from youth soccer games. Best was when they cornered the ref after a youth soccer game and tried to force him to watch the "video evidence" that proved his egregious call. (To his credit, he refused to watch the video.)

Last season, a player from Cibolo Steele injured one of our Westlake girls' basketball players and then led the crowd in celebratory cheers. Never seen anything like it.

So keep administering the beatings to SA teams, Chaps and LT.  It couldn't happen to a nicer fan base.

1 - Pretty dumb to lump the entire city's fans together.

2 - Don't believe you about the Cibolo-Westlake story.  At least not the implications that the injury was purposeful and the cheers were for the injury.

This. I was actually in the stands when those Cedar Park fans chanted racial slurs and taunts at the San Antonio Lanier basketball team in the playoffs a few years back. That doesn’t mean all Austin fans are racist assholes.

I never said the injury was purposeful. You added that bit, (although admittedly it’s a nice one) And yes, the crowd cheered her. And in our 13+ years encounters with SA fans, they’ve always sucked. Always.

Carthage fans talk a ton of trash.  They are pretty arrogant.  I guess they have reason to be with their success the last dozen years.  They sound like a lot of East Texas fans.  The football played in their bubble is the best kind, and nobody else can compare.  SEC!  I really hope their team thinks like they do.  That they can show up Friday and roll their helmet out on the field and expect a 49-14 blowout win.  They just beat a 9-4 Midlothian Heritage team 24-7 last week.  Lampasas is a better team than MH, but the Dawgs expect total domination.

I keep hearing that they have 2 corners that can hang with anyone Lampasas has, and that one of them will shut down Porter.  Lampasas has 4 legit WRs with speed.  Can they cover them all on every play?  They claim their LBs will stuff the run with ease.  Will they do that consistently when Lampasas spreads them out with 4 wide and forces them to think coverage first?

I've even seen the claim that their DL is so big and fast that the Lampasas OL will be completely overrun and Ace won't be able to see over them because he's short. Ok.  Ace sees over his 6'5 guards just fine, and he's actually more dynamic on the run.  Those DBs will have to consistently cover the WRs breaking off routes and adlibbing for Ace as he rolls out and threatens to keep it.  Wait too long, and Ace runs.  Come up on him too quick, and he'll dump it over you to the receiver.

I have no idea if the Lampasas D can stop Carthage.  I fear they'll get worn down eventually.  That Carthage OL is gigantic.  Lampasas is going to have to swarm all night.

If Lampasas can bait them into a shootout, I think they have a good chance.

Yep, Lampasas is going to need to score almost every time they have the ball.

All I'm hearing is how much bigger stronger and faster they are, yet last year Liberty Hill beat them 44-41. Lampasas will need to score at least that much to win. I think they can do it.

I've been to 4 games this year and seen 2 punts. This offense is legit.

I had the displeasure of using TexanLive on Saturday to watch the Lampasas vs. Liberty Hill game. The cameraman was so awful, that every big play or TD was missed in the first half. It was unwatchable. Might as well have listened to a radio call of the game. I didn't even bother watching the 2nd half. It was that bad.

I sent TexanLive a polite message to complain and request a refund of $9.95. I was ignored completely. No response. So I messaged again just now and they sent a flippant reply that they reviewed the game and only a couple plays were missed. Sure. Let's say 5 out of 50 plays were missed, but those 5 were long TD passes. Give me a break.

They prefer bad press than refunding me $10. Fine. I'll never use them again, and I'll inform everyone I have access to that they don't know how to handle customer service in a professional manner.

NFHS. Most of their games are just re-broadcasts of TexanLive, but it was 10.99 for the month, and you get to watch tons of games. And they have AppleTV app, so I can watch seamlessly on my TV. It’s what I have done the last three years. $11 bucks for basically the entire playoffs (I subscribe so I get all the games before state, so basically bi-district on). But yes, it depends on the facility as the quality, so some will not be great, but way cheaper than TL.

Anytime I see a mention of the Voks I am pos-repping. The Voks upset of Lincoln in the state-semis in 2001 has to be among the three greatest upsets in Texas HS basketball history. Their freaking center, the only guy on the team who was over 6 ft, was 6'3 175. He was tasked with guarding a Charmin soft Chris Bosh and he did that.

I have a story about Lanier football I should share at some point. It is one of the funniest stories I have ever heard. It came from a football coach who coached against Bum Phillips in the 1957 state title game. I can't stop laughi g just thinking about it. I have been blessed to run across some amazing people, but the Lanier football story gets me everytime...lol.

That might’ve been Orlando Mendez-Valdez, went on to play for WKU. Lanier basketball is a West side of SA institution. Fallen on rough times since their coach Rudy Bernal left, but man the whole community used to get behind those teams. SAISD has a very underrated basketball tradition, they usually have a couple teams make a playoff run every year. Just a bunch of undersized, street tough kids playing relentless basketball. /tangent
