First 2 Lampasas games:

129 points scored

1,334 yards (704 rush / 630 pass)

Next 2 games were losses last year.  Badgers get both at home. Lorena & La Vernia

I went to the game Friday against Lago Vista.

11 offensive drives

9 touchdowns

1 FG

1 Punt

They are going to score a ton of points. QB throws a great spiral, and they have a couple of good RB's and WR's

Going to the Harlingen vs Judson game this Friday. Haven’t been to a cardinal game in 6 years so I’m excited. Cards are 2-0 and ranked #4 in the revered RGVsports.com Valley Top 10 poll. I think if Harlingen can come out firing and limit their mistakes, they may surprise the Rockets and only lose by 3 or 4 touchdowns.

I went and saw Harlingen play SA Reagan the year after Harlingen was really good.  Harlingen lost 42-0.

Quote

Three more state champs go down
For the second straight week to start the season, we had three defending state champions lose in non-district in the 11-man ranks. We start in Class 4A-Division I where Waco LaVega lost its first home game since 2014, fell to Argyle 49-35. The Pirates took on Argyle twice last year with Argyle winning the Week 2 game and LaVega winning the regional final matchup. For Waco LaVega fans, they are hoping history repeats itself if these two meet up again in the playoffs, which has a decent chance of happening. Staying in Class 4A, but dropping to Division II, a very young Cuero team took one on the chin losing 40-21 to the DeWitt County rivals Yoakum from Class 3A. In 2A-Division II, Mart’s offense simply couldn’t find its footing in a surprising 20-3 loss to 2A-Division I Holland. The Panthers are staring a very tough start in the face as they still have non-district games against powerful Franklin and Refugio on the horizon.

They had that historic 2009-2011 run, but have largely been in football purgatory ever since, besides 2013 & 2015. They have a badass at QB this year but not much else.

Side note: I recently learned that Matt Stepp has been posting on the 956sports boards for over 10 years. He's either from there or has an unreal passion for his job.

john tyler has a coach, right?  they've had actual practices before playing tonight, haven't they?  because by the way they are playing, i would bet $1000 that they haven't.

Soft man, I can't believe how soft they are at the point of attack. Have they sucked this bad for a while?

Nope. And they have no players. Hit hard by all the new private schools. Lee sucks too.

I suppose it's kind of like Louisiana.  Between the crappy public schools (also full of browns and poors), and the spread of fundamentalism in the smaller towns and rural areas, lots of parents send their kids to private schools.  On occasion, you get a kind of juggernaut like Evangel in S'Port and Ouachita Christian (probably should be small c) in Monroe.  But even in Louisiana, so many have sprouted up that it diffuses talent.

Texas is one of the few states where public schools usually dominate private (like DeSoto thumping Dallas Jesuit, and Beaumont West Brook skullfucking Houston Strake Jesuit last week), because most private schools here are academics- first institutions (they way it should be imo).

However I noticed Cornerstone Christian and St. Anthony here in SA both completely sold their souls to try (and thus far fail) at being good at sports recently. I wonder how many private schools will start following suit.

John Tyler is a 5A school, Longview is a defending 6A state champ, Longview is supposed to blow them out. The ridiculous thing is that Longview opened the season with 3 straight 5A opponents.

So many of the oldish private/Christian schools out there were explicitly set up to get around anti-segregation laws that it set an early precedent and cratered their public schools for years to come.

Well, that and endemic Louisiana corruption.
