Reba should be packed. First appearance in 10 years.

Journey puts on a great show.

My wife loves Jon Pardi.

Lauren Daigle is the best Christian act in the world. Amazing singer.

Post Malone was inevitable with his new schtick. At least the guy can sing a little.

I’ve never heard of some of these younger country acts. Probably a good thing.

Brad Paisley and Luke Bryan allegedly perform for free or donate their fee to charity so they’re locked in every year.  Bun B appears to be an annual thing now too. I’ll give him credit for pulling some big names. 9 new performers out of 20 is pretty good when 3 are already locked in.

I’m not going to gripe about the Spanish language acts on Sunday. One couple in one night spends more at the fairgrounds than I ever care to spend in my entire life. I’d argue people will up show regardless, but if they can get an extra 5% because of the act that’s big for the show’s bottom line.

Gripes:

No Stapleton. Tremendous singer and guitarist.

Paisley is on a Monday. He usually performs on the last Saturday of the show. Serious HLSR people are busy as hell on that Saturday, so they don’t care about some 6pm show. If you’re going to burn a spot on Paisley, have him take that Saturday. He’s not touring, so it doesn’t appear to be scheduling conflict.

Beyonce today?

I have my doubts, but if it’s going to happen it will be on the 14th when she has already teased a big announcement. My money is on a Cowboy Carter tour, but it could be a standalone show tied to HLSR.

HLSR Survival tips:

- Stick to clear liquor and soda water . I feel the tequila, soda, and lime hangover is the most survival.

- NRG serves primarily AB 16 oz bottles. Pack accordingly.

- Plastic flasks.

- Parking is fine before 6pm on weekdays.

- Corral Club is worth the money.

- There’s a Saltgrass at the very end of NRG Center. I feel it’s the best grub outside of tents and cook off. A lot of the Midway restaurant suck deeply.

- There’s Chick-fil-a beer the petting zoos. Pretty close to regular prices

- Don’t wear flip flops. I feel like this one is obvious, but i see it every year. There is literally shit everywhere in NRG Center and Arena.

- I don’t have a good departure strategy. I rented an apartment a few years back nearby . It was great.

- There’s good shopping and light crowds at lunch on week days.

- I’d buy a hat or pair of boots right now. Probably too late on anything custom. I’m sweating out a custom hat order from Thanksgiving right now.

- There’s a second floor at NRG center with nice chairs if anybody has kids that need to sit or have old folks.

- Use Transportation’s golf carts. Black and red vests. Their logo is a stagecoach.  They pick up at the end of NRG Center near Fanin and will take you to NRG Arena/Fairgrounds/Hideaway. Their staging area is big ass tent in the Red lot off Kirby. If you have folks that don’t walk so well, please seek them out. They can take you anywhere you need to go.

- The Wine Garden is always a shit show after concerts. There’s usually one working bathroom and no seating. Great folks working there, but it’s just too small to handle a lot of people.

I struck out on tickets at work. Pretty epic whiff, but standing in line for 2 hours while on the clock has become a thing.

But who gives a shit ? It sure beats many alternatives, including last year. I’m ready to cut it loose.

We are heading back to Houston this week, Mrs Fairway has immunotherapy and Dr consults, we won't be there once the rodeo starts, but are interested in the BBQ championship. I have a simple question...how does that work? I read that tickets didn't get you into competition tents, so how do you get into those. Is there much to do if you aren't getting into tent (s)?

If you don’t have a wrist band to a tent, I would not go. You’ll get Aramark BBQ. Over priced beer.

This. There are some cook team guys on surly. I hope they reach out to you. Wrist bands are for sale, but it’s more of a who you know thing.

If you do go, please, please leave early. Uber is a nightmare after they close the grounds close for the night.

It's sad but true.   It's basically a three hundred private parties that you can't get in to.

Thankfully, a friend of a friend of a friend has 2 wristbands for us. Not sure if it's for Thursday or Friday; so we are going to check it out.

Holey Shit - that is incredible. I can't even really describe it, what a huge event. And some of the best food I've had in quite a while. I would go back every day, if I could try different tents, the entire atmosphere was pretty low key, but I'd say 100 +/- venues, some with live music, most with food.

The one I attended had BBQ, Cajun, and seafood; karbach beer, mixed drinks, live music. Fucking 10 outta 10.

You pay $47 for fajitas but bitch about a $43 Uber ride?

Went to El T for drinks.

You can drink at home cheaper. Surge pricing is the cost of doing business if you want to Uber during a massive demand event.
