Got a fucking stone induced chip in the front windscreen.  It's about 1cm, doesnt look too deep, and hasnt spidered out.

Insurance says if its a repair (resin-fill), they'll cover it.  If it's a replacement, I'll be out the deductible.

Has anyone had a repair before?  Satisfied with result?  It's smack dab in the middle of the windscreen, so not directly ahead of driver's sight line

Take it to one of the thousands of places that repair before it spiders out and you have to replace the windshield. You will always see it a bit, but they fix them pretty good. I get these once a month thanks to a long commute and shitty Houston roads.

In this country you can even go to AutoZone and get a diy kit. I've used it with success. Not sure if that's available in your communist country, though 🤷🏿‍♂️.

These repairs cost like 30 bucks...do not call your insurance company

Why would you not use insurance which makes it free? I have had repairs done about a half a dozen times over 5 years and my premium has changed about $10 in that time.

Most insurance covers it for free, and it will not impact your deductible at all. Fast and effective. Just get it done before it spreads. And it can spread fast. Until it’s fixed, leave your car sitting in the sun at your own risk

You didn't happen to see a tow truck on an overpass immediately before the chip happened, did ya?

thats the fucked up thing.  ive been behind trucks and heard loud pops and nothings appeared.  this time there were only passenger cars.  freeway wasnt near any sort of construction.  it happened while i was going under a freeway sign - but wasnt like there was some rock lodged up there

On a related note, when Mrs. Brat turned on her wipers the other day, apparently there was some kind of little stone stuck in the blade. It left a full arc scratch all the way across the windshield.  It is a faint scratch visible mainly when the light is just right, otherwise not too noticeable. Kinda like someone scratched a window pane lightly with a diamond ring.

Of course we know it’s there and it really bothers her even though it is above our line of sight. The car is only two years old. Can something like that be polished out?

Try toothpaste and if that doesn't do it- https://www.amazon.com/3M-Glass-Polishing-Compound-Capacity/dp/B007460F7Q/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1547349344&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=glass+polish&psc=1

The real question is...what are either of you doing driving at your age???

I get it done whenever I get a chip.  Never had a problem with it spreading afterwards.  If there is a crack already, they can usually even fix that and it will make the crack almost invisible.

Yep, I've had it done and here in Aus there are companies that will come to your work and do it in the carpark while you carry on with your day, never had an issue afterwards.

and then i've got 3 very very minor, scratchless dents.  1 squarely because of the wife (left hinged gate unlocked).  so maybe take it to a PDR shop to get it all done at once.  no idea cost...100-200$ per dent?  insurance is already pretty expensive, and deductable is 250-400 or so

Ended up being $155 Bc I mistakenly told him I didn't have a heated windshield which woulda tacked on $60 extra... no need for it in Tx really anyhow so f it.
