Alabama Football - Now Featuring Kalen DeBoer

Seems like criticism of both Bama Football Team and Saban is louder this year.  Hard to believe how poorly Bama played in 44-16 beat down by Clemson....  Frequent Turnover of coaches causing more concern from Bama Fans.

Many Bama Fans and players surprised by loss of Asst Coach Dan Enos to Miami.  Saw this in an article today:

"Enos is the fourth member of the 2018 Alabama on-field coaching staff to leave the program. Former offensive coordinator Mike Locksley took the head coaching job at Maryland, wide receivers coach Josh Gattis was named the offensive coordinator at Michigan this week and offensive line coach Brent Key joined the Georgia Tech staff.

Nick Saban is no stranger to coaching staff turnover. Five coaches from the 2017 staff were not on the field in 2018, and the Crimson Tide still ran the table leading up to the College Football Playoff National Championship loss to Clemson."

Yeah, but all the Bama Fans thought Enos would be their new OC....... Not Happy Saban lost him to Miami.

Finebaum Show is pretty funny right now on SEC Network......

Well from the tweet above it sounds like that  Enos guy was going to be named OC ,but moved along to miami.  Unless he's going to pull a Diaz and go back in a month.

But yea, I'm not going to cry for them nor hold my breath  waiting for Bama to suck again.

Yeah, can't wait for this to be Bama Fans....

Not saying the run is over but it’s inevitable that it will end...
And I have mixed feelings about that, I enjoy seeing aggy get their beating every year like clockwork.

*except for that year with Johnny foosball and the not-SEC ready Big12 players.

Saban's demeanor on the sideline during the Clemson game was surprising.  No doubt this last group of assistant coaching hires at Bama appear to have improved Bama's recruiting, but may be lacking enough experience in X's & O's.

Won't be surprised to see Saban bring on a few more older assistants with his next group of New Hires.

Well he does have Seargent Carter , err I mean Butch Jones on staff, so there’s that.

I bet he brings the OU def coordinator that got fired in ( not stoops, the other other guy). Saban Likes the re-tread types like Hugh Freeze.

I've read a lot of Bama people claiming that Saban's staff turnover put him at a disadvantage vs Dabo.  That is likely true but that situation is just as much Saban's fault.  Saban has a mercenary culture where staffers are looking for a big payday and program success allows them to make the jump.  Alabama may be the pinnacle of success for Saban but he's already a head coach.  Dabo has created a family culture where people don't want to leave and his assistants are paid well enough they don't feel like they have to look for HC jobs.

Andy Staples with SI stated that Saban did not want to lose Dan Enos (lateral move).  Saban wanted Enos at OC with same offensive system for Tua in 2019.

Offensive side of the ball was not thought to be the problem for Bama vs Clemson.  The Bama Defense Staff were expected to possibly see changes for the 2019 Season.....

Saban having to hire so many new assistants in two consecutive years has to be wearing on Saban...... (Five coaches from the 2017 Bama Staff were not on the field in 2018)

Bama was different this year.  They had times of complete lapses - see Citadel 1st half. Saban basically raised the white flag early in championship game.

Biggest thing for me though was the player demeanor on the sideline during the game. Players seems to realize they had no answer to Clemson, but also an expression of don't care.

The staff turnover will have to start hitting recruiting in next couple years.  They will still dominate, but I do think they have reached and passed their pinnacle.

Saban’s success is a curse to some extent. His other main problem is that he’s an asshole. Guys want to coach there because they win and because it’s great on a resume. They also take the first good opportunity to leave because he treats them like meat.

Have heard this about Saban before.

My next statement may be bull..... but if Saban doesn't learn to adapt and treat his assistants better, We may be seeing the beginning of the end of Saban coaching in CFB.

Keeping Kirby and Pruitt on his staff for several years made it much easier for Saban to have success at Bama in the past.  Saban will not continue to be successful if he has to change 4-5 Asst Coaches each year.

I've seen it at the HS level. Winning is great, and it takes a lot of hard work. HCs often put lots of pressure on their assistants to win, usually by requiring lots of hours at the office. While you're winning, people are happy. When you stop winning (not that Bama has stopped, mind you), people aren't as gung ho about giving the same amount of effort.

Assistants begin to question whether or not it's all worth it. They begin to question everything your program does. Some of them will jump ship. If the HC doesn't figure out how to get his assistants to buy in, the players will never buy in.

It's really, really hard to maintain a winning culture over a long period of time. Alabama is already in rarified air.

Great Stuff.

Really glad to see Championships being won by Teams not in the SEC and B10.  It feels like more parody is starting to show up in CFB again.

I also think the Transfer Portal situation will have a greater effect of diluting the depth of Teams like Bama, Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia going forward.  This in turn will make it much more difficult for a team to be so dominant for a long time like Bama has over the last 10 years.....

Bad TV Ratings for Bama vs Clemson CFP Game means the 8 Team Playoff will probably happen in the next 3-4 years to capture more TV viewership from the West Coast.... it's all about the Benjamins!!!

Lack of Bama Staff Continuity Finally Hurts Saban

https://www.si.com/college-football/2019/01/11/dan-enos-alabama-staff-coaches-jalen-hurts

"In all, 17 coaches have left Saban’s staff since the 2015 season, a period over which Alabama has gone 55–4 and played for the national title each season.

The turnover at Alabama speaks to many things: the desire of other programs to replicate Saban’s success by hiring his protégés; Saban’s aggressive, relentless pursuit of perfection; and staff casualties of the grind of working under him........  A former Saban assistant reached Friday says working for the man can be exhausting. There’s no real downtime. Recruiting is a second season in which losing out on a five-star prospect at your position in the spring is just as bad as a loss on the field in the fall. “What’s good enough for him?” the ex-assistant asked aloud.

Saban has had so much turnover over the last three years that only one coach from his 2016 staff remains with him: co-defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi. Four others were hired new last year and the other, Joe Pannunzio, just completed his second season. If you include Steve Sarkisian’s one-game tenure as offensive coordinator in 2016, Locksley’s replacement will be the fifth offensive coordinator in four seasons.

Clemson receiver Justyn Ross has recently exploded onto the scene with two dominant playoff performances, leading some to wonder why Ross became the first top-ranked recruit in the state of Alabama to sign with someone other than the Tide since 2012. He provided that answer last week. “The stability that Clemson has,” Ross says, “they don’t really have coaches leaving in and out like that and learning different stuff every year.”

The SEC shine is coming off and ESPN is already ready to change the narrative now they have ACC too.

A 8 team playoff will do shit loads to weaken their CFP stacking of their horses and "parity" is going to start appearing regularly.

Still fuck Saban, ESPN and the SEC because all three are not good for college football and the dollars/viewers are starting to make them yesterday's news.

No doubt ACC Network will be a game changer.  The SEC message is worn out for College Football.  Having different conferences win the Championship more often would be better for CFB.

I do believe the whole SEC in your face self love fest is finally starting to show signs of losing it's impact on people.

I mean, gotdamn, even Finebaum is having a tough time mustering up even the smallest little lick of the SEC SEC SEC tip this last week.  It's both amusing and bizarre to watch all at the same time.

Callers are calling in with their attempts to get him going and he just won't engage.

He be all like...

Eh... I think it's different.

The run and shoot ran it's course.

It died/morfed/changed but coaches that couldn't do the same faded to Black.

Saban is a LONG way from that right now, but its not for the offenses of the SEC.

They aren't working the way they were a couple of years ago. They've been figured out largely. The myth is being revealed. The SEC shine is coming off and ESPN is already ready to change the narrative now they have ACC too.

Ehhhh. This same narrative was talked about after Aggy beat Bama their first year in the SEC. Or when OU dominated Bama in 2013. And Clemson beating them in 2016. Then all is well when Bama wins it again the next year. Then when they lose again, this happens. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Finebaum's show was like a bad car crash today.  Kept thinking about not looking, but just couldn't help myself.

ACC callers, especially Miami Fans, were hilarious today calling in and really making Bama fans mad...

Oh okay contrary mofo.

I'm going to go ahead and talk with the grown ups now.

I'm sorry your feelings are hurt because I didn't agree with you. The fact we are actually discussing this is so fucking knee jerk. They lost one fucking game this year. Big deal. Bama is going to be fine indefinitely. No different than crowning Bama the best team ever as Derka did after they beat OU. You aren't going to win every game.

How is Bama worse off than Clemson right now? Both have exactly the same resumes the last 4 years.

This is the same junk being discussed every time the Pats don't win it all. And they are just fine going forward.

Losing 2 out of 3 years to the same team and in such devastating fashion this year seems different than those other events.  Clemson didn't have a talent that only comes around every 40 years for a program when doing it.  They also dominated on both sides of the ball and made Bama look confused and desperate, not merely outplayed.  Clemson is certainly no anomaly this year.  Bama ain't over but they've got a genuine peer dynasty building and the foundation Dabo has built actually looks more sustainable than what Saban has put together in Tuscaloosa in many respects.

Outliers happen. And let's not act like Bama didn't move the ball. They did. They just bogged down and had very questionable playcalling. They are going to be just fine.

Losing 2 out of the last three years to the same team and in such devastating 24-6 fashion this time seems different than past events. Clemson has built up its talent but couldn’t overcome an underclassman sub at QB. Bama dominated both sides of the ball. Yada yada 2017 season version.
