"Cotton seeds carried to the moon by a Chinese probe have sprouted, marking what could be the first plant to ever grow there, according to Chinese government images.

In making the announcement Tuesday, Chinese researchers released pictures from the probe showing the tiny plant growing in a small pot inside the spacecraft, hundreds of thousands of kilometers away from the Earth."

In the book and movie, The Martian, doesn't the narrator state that growing something in a new land makes that place officially a settlement? Does a person have to be present to make that so if it even is so?

Hmmmmmmm.

Not sure growing a plant inside a spacecraft and growing a plant on the surface like in The Martian are the same thing, landmark wise.

Cotton is an odd choice. It will be pretty obvious when they pee in it.

Why not rice?

Smart move to put pressure on trade talks with US.  China is the number world importer of cotton.  Brilliant move.

Apparently 6X farther than Mao's first attempt.  If only he had been able...

If you stack all the dead end to end that Mao killed, we probably get there

somewhat cool but whats the difference between growing it on a spaceship there or growing on a spaceship orbiting earth which i believe we've already done with other seeds.  it's still grown in an artificial climate of a motherfucking spaceship.

Seems like they could focus on something more useful like seeing if ants can be trained to sort tiny screws.

Agreed. But in fairness, our Idiocracy is losing its mind about fast food, so I still think they win.

learn me on this.  how different is the gravity from orbiting the earth to that of the moon?
No one really knows because our moon "landing" was faked, but Hollywood thinks you could bounce around like tigger and weigh less.

But moon's gravity is still too strong for Kyler Murray to even sniff 5'10".

It's dead, Jim. Something I just learned, a lunar night is equivalent to two earth weeks.

Lunar Kush is gonna be amazing. I'll take an oz of Apollo 11, please. No, wait... make that Sea of Tranquility.

Cotton got his shins blowed off by the Japs and then at age 75 fathered a son whom he also named Hank. I don't think the Chinese realize what they're messing with, the Cotton seed is a volatile thing.
