Thanks I just spent a bunch of money at pet supplies plus - inflatable collar and 2 paw booties. Tried to put a booty on and freakouts ensued. This is giving me almost as much anxiety at the moment as the election thread.

for the love of god, please don't invoke the cr into this thread.

Talk me down off of the ledge regarding the cone of shame. I've never had to put one of my dogs in one. Pup has seasonal allergies causing her to lick her back feet and they are getting raw. Claritin and fish oil was the first thing we tried and it seemed to work for a couple of weeks but then she started again. Now she's supposed to put the cone on when I can't watch her. I'm not comfortable putting a crazy 7 month old puppy in the crate with the cone or anything else on when I can't supervise her. Vet says it's fine. I'm convinced she's going to get it caught on something in the crate and choke herself out or some other shit.

Is 7 months too young for Apoquel? We tried all the other stuff a hundred times over but it was Apoquel that finally rid him of his skin allergies. $100/month for a 16 lb dog but totally worth it .

my 62 lb lab was on apoquel for 7+ years, it started off as a pill per day- which is probably close to $100 per month today. but after 60 days we moved it to a pill & half every 2 days (cut half the pills in half, left the rest alone) for something like 3-4 months.  then went to a pill every 2 days. at the end of her life it was a pill every 3 days.

she was literally allergic to everything in my backyard, the grass type, the 4 different tree pollens I have in my yard, the next door neighbors bushes, the damn dandilions.  (splurged and bought the vet to test her for all her allergies)

vet told me we just needed to break her cycle of constantly licking the itchy areas, which never healed, then got raw, then got infected, then got a cone, and start it all again 3 weeks later.

apoquel stopped the itches in less than 3 days, and she never itched herself raw again... and by the last 2ish years i only had to give her 1 pill every 3 days or so. which meant it was less than $400/yr
