The Earth is going to get between the Moon and the Sun tonight, starting in about an hour or so.  Skies in Austin just cleared and the Moon is about to go away for a bit.

I think it starts around 9:30 and the maximum eclipse is around 11:12 central time.

This is a "blood Moon" so it might turn red or orange during the eclipse.

Kinda cool, looking about ENE from my house, sky is finally clear.  Moon and stars look great, but coolest part is the jetstream from what had to be military aircraft zig-zagging all over up there.  Added a really cool effect. I know the rules, but no pics because my Kodak FunSaver wouldn't adjust.

I regret not making more of an event of these types of things for my kids.
Light up the chimena/fire pit and bring them out and make them talk to you about space shit.

Feeling the same way right now. But they’re all asleep now so I don’t think they’d be very pleasant

Fun facts...

- Some of the parts of the moon you usually see can drop temperatures as much as 500° in the shadow of the earth during an eclipse.
- The moon you are seeing is 1.26 seconds newer than the real moon (i.e. light takes that long to reach earth). So the moon is older than what's in our view. So plenty of room for fake landings (Apollo "moon landing," LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)+, eclipses, etc.  Personally, I think it's giant red clear wrap.

I’ve been stepping outside to check it out every so often. Would love to sit on the porch and have a drink and watch it. But it’s a brisk 7 degrees and dropping.

Gone outside periodically with the fam to check it out. It’s actually a great night to check out a lot of the other stars as well. We thought we could see a band of the Milky Way, but no dice. Still, cool stuff.

It looks really spherical, kinda freaks me out if I stare at it too long.

Couldn’t figure out exactly what was playing with my brain, but you nailed it. It’s like a huge ball floating about 100 yards overheard. Doesn’t seem like we should be able to comprehend it being spherical

My younger one got a telescope for Christmas, and this was the first time we tried out the attachment which lets you take 'photos' with your cell phone.

Let's see if Google Photos will link:

It got too dark for it to focus well, and we got a little cloud cover for the best part, but I thought this came out kinda cool, with the help of Pixel Night Sight:

At about this time, right on cue, all the coyotes started howling.

Kinda cool is an understatement.

Very cool . . . we had a solar eclipse earlier this year and now this.

I wonder what early man thought of such a thing?  I'm sure it freaked them out.

Your crops are going to fail due to environmental disaster or massive war which both seem true today

Best pic I took with my phone. Probably should have busted out the DSLR.

2nd pic is me trying to use the HDR night exposure.02749f2354a376c974011b478c74585c.jpgad8f750139b242311cc3b6c8cf3f6a06.jpg

Got a clear sky north of DFW and not much light pollution. Unfortunately it's cold af.

It's 1F here in Dublin, OH. I keep thinking of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.
