11. Henderson

12. Leal

13. Stogner

14. Stripling

15. NaNa

16. Brooks

17. Bridges

18. Jalen Curry

ESPN updated its rankings.  Few other notes:  Banks is now composite 3*, Makiya Toungue is 4*, Watson went up ( will make a huge jump when 247 bumps him from #511 ).  Rian Davis also moved up.

What's holding back Leal in the rankings. Most in-the-know posters have been saying he's the top player in the state for some time now. Why isn't that being reflected in the composite rankings?

I think most think that based on his potential and not where he is right now.

I think it's a mix of a few things. 247 needs to re-eval Texas because they still have Kenyon Green at the top, FFS. ESPN has Leal at 10 and Rivals has him at 25. I think he'll obviously climb in all of those but scheme fit and his college (re: NFL) position are a question as his skill set and size are in-between for a lot of schemes. He's not going to be a bursty up-the-field rusher at DE and he's not going to be on the nose whipping double teams. He's a freakish athlete that is a good fit at Texas because he could play 4i in early downs and slide in to play DT in passing/blitzing packages. I don't know how he fits playing a traditional 4 man front -- as 3 or 5 tech DT or a DE and his ranking may reflect that. He's also hurt on Rivals by the fact that he never gave a squirt of piss about OU.

Leal will be a DT in college and/or NFL. he has a massive frame with freakish athletic ability for someone that size. he would be unique and special as an interior Dlineman. he is just another guy on the edge.

So nothing else about wilson from other 9.95ers besides IT

TFB just put out a blurb about him. Basically said the same things the other sites have been saying. He enjoyed his time with Eagles, his host, and spent a lot of time with Cain, Whittington and Floyd during the spring game. Excited about Hudson Card getting a Texas offer but TFB doesn't think it will be a game changer.

Just wait til Hudson the Great throws for 10,000 yards, 4,000 of which will go to Wilson next year. Then, Wilson will care where Card commits.

Here are some updates for those interested. These are worth what you're paying for them and recruiting is fluid, so keep such in mind.

-Marcus Stripling was at the Houston UA camp this weekend or whenever it was and was getting repeatedly whipped by some C/G type out of Manvel. The Manvel guy is good enough to get a D-1 scholarship somewhere but he's not a major recruit or talent. It got so bad that Stripling literally quit during the workout, likely with a UA AA Game invite on the line. Took his cleats off and started watching practice in flip flops.

-Mowry is the opposite of that. He's going to be a badass player at ATM.

-K Green has a wing span around 82 inches. He can play tackle in college and that's how he's being recruited. Project him to RT and he can be an all-world guard if RT doesn't work out. This recruitment has the potential to get weird, but this guy is worthy of his ranking.

-Banks is good, but he's a Kobe Boyce level talent, vs guys taken last year who were freaking excellent across the board. Nothing wrong with the take for whoever gets him, which is likely going to be Texas, but here's some feedback on the relative sizing of his importance/talent level with a class.

-Card is not a college QB. Stud athlete, but if he's taken as someone's QB, it won't be as THE QB in a class, unless they're stupid, desperate, or Longhorn94 has taken over the reins of running their program. He's the 2nd QB in a recruiting class who will end up at WR somewhere.

-Bragg is the opposite of Marcus Stripling. Just a fucking stud and, continues to be, IMO, the most important uncommitted recruit in this class for UT.

Nah. Check back with me during the season and let me know if you still feel this way. Kid is a natural passer who happens to be a great athlete. I will be interested to see if your opinion changes.

Sorry, but if it wasn't clear, I was passing on info worth taking into account, but not my own opinion. I'm open-minded, so I'm all for him being a heroic QB. That considered, while I've not seen him play, you aren't the only one who has, right? It's a data point.

The couple of reps I saw of him going up against Kenyon Green at that camp, he seemed to have a burst and an inside move that Green was slow to react to. Green was getting some coaching on inside shoulder leverage from a coach in between the two reps. Not that I have any clue about any of this shit.

Take this is a huge grain of salt. I can’t help but watch the 5 on 5 battle in the middle so little dude shit that happens before the ball is moved is of little interest to me.

That said, I watched Card against Westlake last year. It’s fun to fuck with ‘94 but the kid is really really good. As a QB? Dunno - as Baldwin played in that game and frankly I was not impressed with him.

Baldwin was shit for most of that game because the WL DL kicked the LT OL’s ass and he was running for his life.

Card ran a end-around and threw a nice ball into the end zone late in the game, but it was well defended. The other thing I recall about him is a nice catch and run on a 10 yard slant. He is quick and can move and had excellent body control for a sophomore against an outstanding defense.

Garrett Wilson, however, was the head and shoulders above everyone - including Nakia Watson. Wilson was without question the best player on the field. That kid is a must get.

Where do you see Bragg currently leaning, ctj?

Adding more thoughts because I am on a plane and don’t have shit to do...

Here is what I know about Card

He is fast
He is quick
He can catch
He has good hips
He seems to have good durability.
He is elusive in the open field.
He has good size

Here is what I don’t

Can he throw consistently?
Can he lead?
Can he take a blindside hit?
Can he hold on to the ball?
Is he a dipshit that is going to get high and run his car into the side of the Orangetree apartments?

Seems to me that all those questions will be answered this year and next. So my thought is that the early offer at the very least is a plus - simply for the athleticism.

Seems like we're pretty legitimate players for Tre Watson, but I haven't seen any highlights posted. Thoughts?

A nice to have especially as a 3rd down back but not going to make a big difference in our ability to run it.  FWIW he averaged 3.3 ypc and about 50 bills in two games against us.

i think thats fair. i think i know the answers to those questions but would like to actually have the answers before he is our '20 QB commit.

The thing about Watson, besides his college play, is that the coaches hopefully have a sense of whether he's 100% after his ACL surgery.

Yes, that complicates things. Even then, he didn't appear to have elite burst or wiggle. But he looked natural catching the ball out of the backfield, and ran with decent vision and power between the tackles. Curiously it seems to be tough to find individual fumble stats for players, but according to this article he had just one. If he can pass protect, he's at the very least an upgrade to Kyle Porter as a third down back if the coaches don't trust Toneil yet.

Also, he's another option at kick returner.

He tore his ACL in the second game last year so, assuming it was just an ACL and not worse, that should be plenty of time for him to come back 100%. Nowadays most RBs can get back to 100% by the next season.

Regarding his skill, I doubt he starts over Young, but I think he could absolutely be the first RB off the bench, whether he becomes more of a thrid down back specialist or a general backup.  He seems a little less explosive than Carter but probably provides more reliability vis a vis blocking and not fumbling.

Did we ever "offer" Calvin Anderson? I think people are getting caught up on semantics. It's not like grad transfers have a binding NLI to sign.

As discussed several pages ago, there is zero downside to taking Hines and Watson. I see no on-the-field related reason we wouldn't.

Are running back and wr absolute takes or are they backup plans in case Toneil or Duvernay leave? We didn't offer the wr from wake. Have we offered Watson?

I don't think Duvernay is going anywhere. Reports out of Spring Practice were that he's made a lot of improvements and he looked good in the Spring Game.

I continue to be wary of a player who negatively recruited the program to visitors, but Devin can be a dynamic threat if used correctly (big if), and it seems clear that we're making a conscious effort to feature him more in the offense. I think there's a good chance he stays. We should find out pretty soon, as the semester ends in a week or two and the coaches are doing exit interviews with the players.
