If they end up at Tech, we never wanted them.

Uh....maybe.

This. I never saw Wilson play live, just watched the film, and trusted the word of people on this board that he was great. But, no sour grapes, his film didn't blow me away. I too feel much more dejected about losing Leal than Wilson. But, we do need something good to happen soon. Been a rough couple of weeks.

Relax...and have a cup of coffee....

Meant to say Zhaire Smith.

(uh, never post and talk on the phone at the same time)

You also could have credibly said Jamile Johnson. We sure do thank you for that too.

SIAP, but here's a recap of Bru's visit (courtesy of 247):

Spoiler

Bru McCoy is one of the nation’s elite prospects, rated No. 17 in the 247Sports Composite and No. 4 by 247Sports.

McCoy is a dominant player on both sides of the ball and is a high level prospect at receiver and linebacker. He has a rare combination of size, toughness and athleticism and always competes at a high level as well.

McCoy took a visit to Texas over the weekend and the Horns made a big impression on him.

“The trip was great, it definitely met and even exceeded my expectations,” McCoy said. “The coaches were great with me and seemed very genuine. They kept it real and were upfront and honest with me. With some coaches, you can kind of tell they're just recruiting you, but the Texas staff seemed very genuine.

“Coach Herman is definitely a player’s coach and has a lot of energy. He’s the type of guy I would like to play for. All the coaches did a good job of talking about the future of the program, where things are at and where they want to take it. I was very impressed with everything I saw.”

McCoy said the staff really went all out and even showed his highlight tape on the jumbotron inside the football stadium.

“That was pretty crazy,” McCoy said. “They made everything pretty special for me and were very specific in how they want to use me. I met with coach Meekins (WR coach) and he talked about their philosophy and how they utilize their receivers. They want me as an X in their offense and feel I would fit in really well.

“Then I met with the defensive coaches and coach Orlando (DC) said they want me to be a designated pass rusher on 3rd down or obvious passing situations. They run a 3-4 scheme that is similar to what we do at Mater Dei where I rush off the edge more so then drop in to coverage.

“A lot of schools have told me they want me to play both ways and like me as an athlete but no one has laid it out like that for me the way they did. So I would be a full time receiver on offense and a pass rush specialist on defense and I think that fits my skill set pretty well.”

The city of Austin and the campus in general all made a positive impression as well.

“Austin is a beautiful city, I wasn’t expecting all that,” McCoy said. “It’s a pretty special place and you can tell coach Herman has things going in the right direction.

“They showed me who’s staying and who’s leaving and there’s a lot of opportunity there. The coaches didn’t promise anything but said if you have to come in and put in the work, you'll play. Basically, you get out what you put in and that works for me.”

McCoy said he’ll definitely be back for an official visit as well.

“The two schools I know I’ll officially visit are Texas and USC,” McCoy said. “I’m going to be taking an unofficial visit to Oklahoma as well and if things go as expected, I’ll be taking an official there too.

“I was supposed to visit OU over Spring Break but I had hernia surgery and had to move it. I was going to visit OU and Texas back to back at that time but had to move those around. I don’t have any official dates yet but I know want to visit Texas when they host USC, the atmosphere should be insane for that one.

“The USC visit will likely be at the end of the season, that’s usually when they like to have their big visit weekends. As for the OU trip, I want to talk with Bookie (Brendan Radley-Hiles) and see what he thinks is best. He’s a smart guy and will know when a good weekend will be.”

McCoy said he’s still planning to make his decision at the All-American Game in San Antonio in January.

“I want to try and take all five of my trips if I can,” McCoy said. “The other schools I’m talking with right now are Florida State, Washington, Oregon and UCLA. I like coach Taggart (FSU head coach) a lot, he was recruiting me hard at Oregon so we have a good relationship.

“I really like the Washington staff a lot and how they recruit. Coach Petersen personally hits me up a lot and I'm comfortable with the staff. Oregon has been on me hard for awhile as well and I have some teammates going there with Keyon (Ware Hudson) and Mase (Funa). I just recently started talking more with UCLA and I think Chip Kelly is a very good coach and will have them going in the right direction.”

Mike Roach: What key CB target Marcus Banks wants to see on Texas OV

Texas is set to host several key targets this weekend. The Longhorns’ impressive list of official visitors includes three-star Spring Dekaney cornerback Marcus Banks, who is looking forward to getting back on the Forty Acres. “I’m excited about that official,” Banks said. “I just took one to A&M, and it went well. I’m sure Texas will surprise me. I want to get to know the players and see the dorms more. I also want to spend more time with Coach (Todd) Orlando. I haven’t gotten to know him that well yet.”

Banks visited Texas for its spring game a couple of weeks ago and was impressed with the way the Longhorns performed on the field. He also had an opportunity to spend time with cornerbacks coach Jason Washington, who was last cycle’s Big 12 Recruiter of the Year. Washington has been relentlessly working on Banks and his mother since last year. Banks has arguably the best relationship with Washington out of any college coach recruiting him. “My relationship with Coach Washington gets stronger and stronger every time I go up there for a visit,” Banks said. “He’s a really good dude. He shows a lot of enthusiasm with his players. I trust him. He’s a coach I would want to play for.”

Banks was originally scheduled to make a commitment in March, and Texas was considered the overwhelming frontrunner. Since pushing back his timeline, a number of other programs have jumped in the mix. So where exactly do the Longhorns stand heading into this weekend’s official visit? “They are very high on my list of schools right now,” Banks said. “I will tell you where they stand after my official. That will probably change things a lot. But they are up there.”

Banks has already made an official visit to Texas A&M. He also hopes to see Alabama, Auburn and LSU before making a decision at some point in coming months. At 6-foot, 170 pounds, Banks is ranked as the No. 36 cornerback in the country and No. 48 overall prospect in the state, per 247Sports Composite.

True enough.  Has been a bust to this point for sure.  They have him at LB now, but I'm not holding my breath.

As I recall just off the top of my head Will Farrar and Madison Akamnonu are shown with UT offers too.  Don't recall about Jack Anderson or maybe TJ Vasher.  It doesn't really matter enough to take the time to look.

Again, I fully acknowledge UT wins the vast majority of those battles.

Vasher no, Anderson yes. But then again, everyone offered Anderson - apparently his mom was really frustrated with his lack of ambition (but she was aggy, so whatever)

Gosh it's tough to have such an unethical bagman like BC on staff. aggy's right, it's really eating away at my soul supporting this kind of cheating and evil.

We should start photoshopping Brewster into all of these. You know, since he's in BC's head now.

Serious question: Is Barton Simmons the least successful member of his graduating class at Yale?

Paul Allen might be dead, but at least he was a Vice President at Pierce & Pierce.

I had dinner with paul allen twice in london just ten days ago.

He might be the least successful, but he sure did outkick his coverage.

Nice to know he’s putting to good use all those Yale classes he took on scouting high-school football talent. His football knowledge is clearly Ivy League. And his wedding looks like a fucking Bud Light ad.

EJ after dark: Texas staff back on recruiting trail

— Texas defensive line coach Oscar Giles stopped by Manvel to see Oklahoma defensive line commit Kori Roberson. He is a prospect the Longhorns have been evaluating for a while now, and he actually made his way to Austin for junior day weekend in February. Don’t be surprised if Texas eventually offers. Robinson had high interest in UT prior to picking the Sooners.

— Texas safeties coach Craig Naivar hit the Houston-area and stopped by to see elite 2020 defensive back Dwight McGlothern, who is making an unofficial visit to Austin this weekend. McGlothern is high on Texas, LSU and Texas A&M early on. Naivar also saw four-star Lufkin defensive back Jerrin Thompson, who could be close to notching an offer. Expect Naivar to fly out to see California defensive back Chris Adimora soon. We are feeling better and better about Texas in that recruitment.

— Texas wide receivers coach Drew Mehringer also made his way to the Dallas-area to see rising Midlothian Heritage wide receiver Langston Anderson. With Garrett Wilson off the board, Anderson is a prospect the Longhorns are monitoring closely. The three-star prospect holds offers from Arizona State, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Texas Tech and others.

— Texas inside wide receivers coach Corby Meekins stopped by Crosby, which is home to rising offensive lineman Chayse Todd. He is a prospect the Longhorns are keeping an eye on. Meekins also made stops at Humble Summer Creek and Spring as he continues to help Texas’ strong relationship with Houston high school coaches.

— Texas offensive line coach Herb Hand made his way to Denton Braswell to see big-time 2021 offensive lineman Erick Cade. He already holds several major offers and could be a guy the Longhorns extend a scholarship to in the future. Cade visited Texas for the spring game last month.

Justin Wells: Morning Recruiting Tidbits

Just a few updates to get your day going...

- A new name to the weekend visitor list popped up with 2020 DB Dwight McGlothern. The New Caney prospect could be the best corner in-state for his class.

- Texas stopped by Midlothian Heritage to check out WR Langston Anderson. With Wilson and Higgins unlikely, the staff is shifting ever so slightly to other targets.

- Texas swung by Lufkin to see a bevy of D1 recruits as well. Junior-to-be Ja’Lynn Polk is the real prize, with 2020 safety Jerrin Thompson also in the discussion. Breylon Garcia, Javasia Brunson, and Keonte Thomas are all prospects to watch, with multiple offers.

- Texas stopped by Dallas Carter to see 2020 DT Branard Wright. This young monster will be a popular man soon.

- Texas might be by Port Neches-Groves soon to see commit Roschon Johnson and 2020 OL Jaylen Garth, who has been offered Nebraska and Arkansas in the last few days. The 2020 class of OL are crazy in Texas, not to mention 2021.

Anyone know what Eric Nahlin is referring to here?

OOS programs can trapdoor commits (Lloyd Murray being a prime FSU example) with much less blowback than UT, which means they can carpetbomb early offers in a way we can't.

Preston Stone (2021) got a flurry of out of state offers just yesterday. GA, Illinois, UNC all offered and Nahlin then mentioned the above as to the reasoning behind it.

Barton Simmons securing a bag of OU or LSU dicks.  Is this as bad or worse than EJ or Wescott Eberts? They all look alike to me (no racist).  I am sure all these assclowns know more than Mensa.

Haha. I had Bell's Palsy when I was in 4th grade.  Fortunately I only experienced symptoms for a couple of weeks.  So this hits close to home.  I guess I should have gone to Yale.

(E.J. Holland) Morning Donuts: UT a favorite for Cali DB; grad transfer update

— There has been a lot of buzz with Texas and four-star Mayfair (Calif.) defensive back Chris Adimora. I checked in with various sources, and that buzz is legit. With USC not really making a push, Texas has taken advantage and is surging in his recruitment. I have been told that he loved his recent visit to Texas for the spring game and is forming a great relationship with Texas safeties coach Craig Naivar and commit De’Gabriel Floyd. This one is definitely a recruitment to keep an eye on. I’m really close to putting in my Crystal Ball.

— California running back grad transfer Tre Watson is set to make his decision. In fact, he could pull at any point in the next couple of days. Watson is down to LSU, Texas and Texas Tech. So where do the Longhorns stand? From everything we’ve heard, Watson is leaning towards Texas right now. He did enjoy his LSU visit and sees an opportunity with the departure of Derrius Guice. However, Texas has done a tremendous job recruiting Watson, blew him away on his OV and has sold him on coming in and potentially starting. Texas grad transfer commit Calvin Anderson has been heavily involved in this recruitment and is an X-factor for the Longhorns.

— Texas recently put an offer on the table for five-star 2020 (Calif.) outside linebacker Justin Flowe. Here is what he had to say about the scholarship: “I was very excited because Texas has always been a school I looked up to as a child. It’s an honor to get an opportunity to play there.”

— Texas extended an offer to three-star Katy Taylor offensive lineman Andrew Coker on Thursday. Coker has shredded about 40 pounds from his body and looked leaner and more athletic at the Under Armour All-America Camp. Texas offensive line coach Herb Hand recently saw him and was impressed with his progress. As far as his recruitment goes, Texas has some work to do in this one. I have heard that Texas A&M is the heavy favorite.
