Bizarre rant. I'm confused on which troubled poster you categorize me as. Beyond that, I don't see a whole lot of difference between this board and the old board in terms of posters. Looks largely the same, but I haven't given it that much thought, I guess.

Ultimately, I'm not sure how you get one sort of thread meandering without occasionally getting the other. Somewhere around this time last year on the Shaggy thread for last recruiting cycle, there was a long, drawn out discussion over medical schedules due to MM's mother being a doctor or some shit. And there was repeated talk of boners from grown men over where a recruit might be going. It goes on and on. Let's not romanticize the good old days, given that today is the same as it ever was.

Perhaps my rant was bizarre. I haven't thought enough about you to categorize you. Maybe none of the shoes fit.

You raised a question that I addressed. I don't romanticize anything. The experience of this thread has changed, in my humble opinion, from what I describe. I don't argue anything was perfect.

I got tired of the boner talk as did others and there was a change. We need another change. You seem defensive. Maybe think about that.

I think this one is Smith. He was leaning Texas before, but he needed to make sure he wasn't missing out on his "dream school" by visiting USC. The decision has been made.

So: Adimora, Wiley, Smith.

Should be 4 now. Maybe Smith was two shhhs since he was originally suppose to commit in June.

There were 3 outstanding shhh's ahead of this. They were Smith, Adimora, and then Wiley. This one is different. You weren't counting and attributing correctly.

Wow, Machinator and ctj in disagreement - maybe the two most authoritative sources on the board. Adventures in emoji counting.

Lulz. I'm not authorative about shit. But if you write enough in a declarative manner, people will believe you for whatever reason.

I call it the SL Xpress method.

Looked into this a little bit and think Mehringer was at Permian to see Peyton Powell. He's a transfer from private school Midland Christian and may have been under the radar because of it.

EDIT: Played QB for Midland Christian as a Junior. Listed on 247 as WR/S, but ranked as ATH.

Human nature. People tend to follow whoever is the most confident, not whoever is the most correct.

I kind of agree with you the feel of the board has changed. When I first started lurking, and even when I started posting, there was a very stark contrast in mood between the Football and Recruiting boards.  They definitely seem to have merged. Part of that was the absolute nightmare that was people talking about Charlie's abillity to coach. The range of opinions  (at least until the Kansas game) was much more disparate than the range about Herman to this point.  I purposefully avoided the Football board for a good while and a lot of us would discuss the football team on the Recruiting board just to avoid some of the most egregious posters on the Football board.

There was also some pretty ridiculous hyperbole about how great of a recruiter Charlie was, how good his classes were, etc. Seeing what Herman did last year and his strategy for this year only make that more clear.   That fueled a lot of the fun optimism on that board, plus the way Charlie recruited: the rollercoaster of "oh shit, this could all fall apart, to oh shit! we just signed a top 10 class" 2 years in a row created a fun environment.  Herman locking up most of the class by June gives us a lot less to talk about and a lot less excitement, even though I'll take his recruiting 10 times out of 10 over Charlie's in retrospect.

Tl;dr I'm with you it used to be more fun, especially during the Charlie days, but I'm not sure there's a way we get back to that. Shit changes and it will change again in the future, like say, if we actually win some football games. I see that as our best bet at moving to a more fun environment.

It's just the time of year. there's more football board posters over here right now and it always gets a little shittier when they come over because there are too many inane questions and at the same time too many people who dig their fucking heels in on every fucking topic under the sun. they'll get bored and drift back over to football and politics or w/e and the tone of the thread will be back to the standard.

Alright, I guess I'm doing this. Going back to  the beginning of February 2018. The shhs have been verified by TFB, but I guess they could be wrong:

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/959211578330578945 - February 1, Joshua Moore

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/960570963212546048 - February 5, Christian Jones

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/960658098590543877 - February 5, Jordan Whittington. The presence of the ellipsis in the tweet indicates that this is the first silent of the 2019 cycle, IMO.

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/966536539806294016 - February 21, Calvin Anderson.

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/968908302804504577 - February 28, T'Vondre Sweat

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/980095296884625409 - March 31, De'Gabriel Floyd

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/981720984070828034 - April 4, Kenyatta Watson

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/987849677918932993 - April 21, Tre Watson

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/993487295385948162 - May 7, Brayden Liebrock

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/994006535939518465 - May 8, unknown

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/980095296884625409 - May 21, unknown

https://twitter.com/BCarringtonUT/status/998951545407442945 - May 22 (today), unknown

So if I'm wrong, it's either an attribution error in the above list or there was a silent from January 2018 that was mistakenly thought to be a 2018 recruit (which, on reflection, is also an attribution error).

I guess, stuff could get pretty ugly, especially in 2015 pre-Malikmas.  The other time things get shitty is right at or after NSD when Football board guys come over here and start questioning the value of rankings because they've seen highly rated guys not pan out, or they ask why we didn't recruit player X.

That is the peak of shitty every year. This year will be "why didn't we sign Marcel Brooks instead of Gbenda" or whoever we do sign at LB  ...    *sigh*

To those waxing poetic about the cornucopia of rich subject matter from the panoply of masterful posters from days gone by, here's a link to what was being discussed, and by whom, a year ago today:

http://www.shaggytexas.com/board/showthread.php/160037-Texas-Recruiting-Notes-2018-Edition/page282

I assume fatkid54 is in the slammer for the day or something, and tokamak must be in a meeting, but it's mostly the same ol' same ol. Also, nothing of importance happened on this day last year. Maybe we'll see something interesting occur this time around.

Yuuuup. I bet we'll get some good ole Mackophiles who don't like the amount of OOS guys we take and think we should've taken in-state Player X instead.

We should probably also go on shaggy now and find a long post written by TexasStrong12, or (I think I wrote one too) showing data about why recruiting rankings in the aggregate matter and pin that shit somewhere so people don't feel the need to respond. Then againg, who am I kidding, we'll respond anyways.

It's a pithy response and I'm sure you made yourself chuckle in a New Yorker comics kind of way, but I'm not trying to prove anything to you. If people want to be honestly nostalgic, I gave them a real chance. Some took it as such. I was entertained going back and reading it. You can keep pointing to some ethereal higher cause or standard if that's your thing, man.

Las Vegas Opening results are up, unfortunately the Arizona guys weren't there

The only guy we're connected to I noticed at first glance is Pittman, and maybe Jordan Patterson, although I'm not sure how hard we're recruiting him.

Micah Pittman 5'11 194 4.69 4.39 36 30.4 87.63
Jordan Patterson 6'3-1/2 195 4.59 4.49 34.0 32.8 89.07

2019 notes from EJ/247 - I added the 2020 notes in that thread as well. SIAP ::

  Reveal hidden contents

— From talking to sources close to the recruitment of Jake Smith, it seems like Texas has a pretty good lead over USC, even after his official visit this weekend. Smith loves the city of Austin, has a great relationship with the staff and sees himself as a great scheme fit. Smith spoke to Jordan Shipley on both of his visits, and that has definitely helped here. Kudos to the staff on once again being creative on their visits and paying close attention to detail. Smith will be back in Austin on June 3 for his official visit, and it would be surprising if Texas didn’t seal the deal.

— The recruitment of Smith was an interesting one. In fact, Smith wasn’t even on UT’s radar before last winter. His father actually emailed Smith’s film to a handful of colleges before he really blew up on the scene, including Texas. A lot of times these emails go by the wayside. But not with Texas. It was actually running backs coach Stan Drayton that watched the film and got in contact with the Smith family. After visiting in December, the family fell in love with Texas. Tom Herman, Tim Beck, Drew Mehringer and Bryan Carrington all played crucial roles in the Longhorns surging up his list.

— Chandler (Ariz.) Brayden Liebrock recently made his verbal commitment to Texas. Naturally the question is: How solid is he? With many out-of-state kids, you have to worry about a potential flip all the way until signing day. However, Liebrock is completely solid to the Longhorns, and I don’t expect him to look around. Schools like USC and Ohio State made hard pushes, and he has family ties to Arizona State, but Texas really won him over and has done enough to keep him committed through the process. This was one heck of a land by the Texas staff.

— Texas is just starting to make a move in the recruitment of four-star Gilbert (Ariz.) Williams Field defensive back Noa Pola-Gates. Yes, I put in my Crystal Ball for Alabama, and I do feel like the Crimson Tide are in the pole position at this time. But things could change. Texas safeties coach Craig Naivar has been putting in extra work in this recruitment as of late. Naivar visited Pola-Gates last week and is pushing to get him on campus in June. Pola-Gates does have ties to Austin as his godmother lives in the area. Pola-Gates is also of Polynesian descent, and Texas staffer Jake Langi, who really understands the culture and played a major role with Junior Angilau last cycle, is an X-factor in this recruitment.

— Like I reported late last week, Texas is a legitimate contender in the race for five-star Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei athlete Bru McCoy. In fact, I would go as far as to say that the Longhorns are running second behind USC in this recruitment. With a strong season, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if Texas gained control in this one. After all, the Longhorns absolutely blew away McCoy on his recent unofficial visit. He has also bonded with Texas commit De’Gabriel Floyd, who is recruiting him every day. McCoy told me he is open to creating his own legacy away from home, and that’s exactly what UT has been pitching. Carrington is playing an X-factor role here, and the Longhorns would allow him to start off at wide receiver, his position of preference. Texas and USC are the two schools that will for sure receive official visits this fall.

— Texas has been trending in the recruitment of four-star Lakewood (Calif.) Mayfair safety Chris Adimora. After talking to him and those around him, I have reason to believe the Longhorns have a nice edge over Boise State, which will receive an official visit on June 14. Adimora made an unofficial visit to Texas for the Longhorns’ spring game last month and loved his time on campus. He has a strong relationship with Naivar and Floyd, who has been recruiting him extremely hard. I’m told Floyd and Adimora are close friends. Adimora is looking to officially visit Texas in December — after his August 18 commitment date.

— The way Adimora’s recruitment unfolded is a little bit of a funny story. Texas Director of High School Relations Bob Shipley was the first to reach out to the Adimora camp. He actually called the school’s landline and inquired about him. Adimora’s high school head coach, Derek Bedell, laughed about it and said: ‘who the heck calls the landline?’ Bedell told Shipley Adimora would be interested, and Naivar quickly got in contact. Naivar actually coached with Bedell’s brother, Brad, at Texas State. Bedell praised Naivar and the Texas program and said Adimora would be a great fit in Austin. It is worth noting that Bedell’s brother, Brad, is now the offensive line coach at Boise State, so it’s no surprise that Adimora is the highest on Boise State and Texas.

— Chris Steele… man. Early on his recruitment, we had multiple sources, including Steele himself, tell us that he had legitimate interest in Texas. It made sense as Steele talks to Floyd all the time, played 7v7 for Houston-based Fast 7v7 and talked heavily about going out-of-state. Steele also kept in close contact with Washington throughout the offseason. So when he left Texas off his top schools list, it came as a bit of a surprise. What happened? I talked to both Steele and his father, and there was a miscommunication regarding his official visit that caused them to think Texas had moved on. However, that visit has been cleared up, and Steele is once again considering UT. Washington has been in contact with Steele and his father, and they both had nothing but great things to say about him. Steele has one official visit remaining, and he is debating on whether to use it on Texas or Penn State.

I assume this means Oregon isn't in the running for Adimora anymore?
