Produce.  Highest quality in town and often the best price.

Bakery is typically "eh".

Meat department is solid, but can be pricey.

Tons of ready-to-eat options that are mostly really good (salads, entrees that you bake at home, etc.).

HEB branded products tend to be good, from snacks to dry goods to medicines.

Is the guac cheaper than just buying the ingredients to make yourself?

You're paying for convenience and for already made it's pretty dang good(get the spicy one)

List above is good... would add:

Ice cream (Blue bells fucks too)

Tortillas (if they make them in store)

Frozen breads

Fresh Guacamole

Blue Bell can die (melt?) in a fire. Creamy  Creations is where it’s at.

no and they use the nice avocados to make the guac in store so damn near every avocado in the bin is as hard as a rock.

Yeah I guess the only inconvenient part of making guac is actually getting ripe avocados.

pretty much this... buy HEB branded everything and switch back if you prefer the other. Most times you'll find yourself sticking with HEB branded.

ohh... and yeah get a bunch of the fresh tortillas of all varieties.

This is only true if you don’t have a Fiesta nearby.

Huh.  I've seen some rank produce at the Fiesta near campus (38.5th and I35).  Haven't paid all that much attention, though, I usually just buy bulk chiles there.  I'll check it out again.

Damn that’s unfortunate. I shop two regularly here in FW and they are far and away the most fresh, most variety and best prices.

Yeah don’t. Unless they’ve cleaned up their act in the past 20 years, their back stock is a nightmare.

Blue Bell refused to allow return of several thousand $ worth of their Listeria ice cream from UT several years back, although they accepted and credited  returns from several other Texas universities.  Fuck aggy blue bell yesterday, today, tomorrow, and forever!

HEB Branded? --> yes

Hill Country Fair/ HCF ---> NO

That's a dumb blanket statement on HCF products. There are plenty of non-meat items that are way cheaper than the name brand and work just as well.

I find that the hcf baking soda leaves a slightly chalky finish as opposed to the national brand, arm and hammer. Next time, I’ll try mixing it in some water.

I’ve always thought Blue Bell was overrated or overhyped ice cream in the first place.

Give me HEB Creamy Creations Cookies and Cream or Mexican Vanilla over what Blue Bell claims to be their prize flavor any day of the week.

I certainly can't tell any difference, although I'm not a big ice cream guy in the first place.  Paying extra for a gold rim seems stupid.

I have always loved ice cream but only eat in moderation these days, usually super premium brands. I don’t like a lot of mix-ins so I stay away from Ben & Jerry’s and gravitate towards Haagen Dazs, usually only a 1/4 pint at a time.

Well that was a cheap lunch. Do they have deals like this often on their Meal Simple stuff? I saw that sweet and sour chicken was on sale for $2.

Mark’s salsas are pretty good, especially for the cheap jar variety.

Central Market?  It’s been there from day 1. Regular HEB, not so much.
