Nice list and you picked the correct Monty Python movie.

Which begs the thread drift question, what are the best 10 comedies of all time  ?  Life of Brian is my favorite MP movie with The grail being a very close second. My favorite year would be in my top 10 list.

10 best or 10 funniest? I'm fine with this pivot - seems like we are running out of unique titles on the top 10s at this point. Some off the top of my head:

Anchorman

Old School

Airplane

Animal House

Caddyshack

Supertroopers

Superbad

Pineapple Express

Groundhog's Day

Young Frankenstein

Wedding Crashers

No Time For Sergeants

Animal House

Life of brian

MP and the holy grail

My favorite Year

Raising Arizona

Young Frankenstein

Airplane

Caddy Shack

Blazing Saddles

Dr. Strangelove

Philadelphia Story

that's 12, not in order really, and I love em all.

One of the funniest if not the funniest scenes in any comedy is still the Penis lineup in Porkys.

and I loved Hanks in the Ladykillers (he had to have a blast playing that over the top role)

That reminds me of a couple of Alec Guinness classics:

Kind Hearts and Coronets

The Man in the White Suit

I'd have to go with:

Forest Gump

Platoon

Apocalypse Now

The Deer Hunter

Shawshank Redemption

The Green Mile

It's a Wonderful Life

The Bucket List

The Longest Day or 30 Seconds over Tokyo...can't decide between those two

Saving Private Ryan

I thought you were listing comedies for a second and was very confused.

Would've been more confused if i had started listing off porn.

Well maybe not

Just because it's porn doesn't mean it can't be one of the best 10 movies you've ever seen.

Lebowski

Fargo

No Country

True Grit

Raising AZ

I think you underrate Millers Crossing.

Your highly recommended and recommended list needs some revising and flipping places IMO. It's all personal preference pf course.

And Ladykillers is pure unadulterated shit.

The Searchers keeps coming up. Another favorite of mine in that vein is 3 Godfathers. I didn't know until just a few weeks ago that the John Wayne/John Ford version wasn't the original. It was the 2nd remake of a 1916 silent film. The 1936 version with Chester Morris is pretty good.

I might swap it for true grit on his list.  the other four?  hell no, nobody would.

It’s definitely better than True Grit. I’m sure I’m in the minority but I like it at least as much as No Country.

Your current mood seems to be: Pissed off at the world and people need to die.

Damn, had not noticed that, although from my list it would certainly appear that way.   I think my username is a bad influence :)

I can endorse 1,3 (except Part 3) 6, and 7 as all extremely solid choices.  2, and 8 as major big picks. I like the rest, but not as GOATS.

Cool topic.  Impossible to narrow down to 10 and greatest is so subjective.  I would say that these 10 had the greatest emotional (funny, scary, action, inspiring etc.) impact on me personally when I watched them:

Rocky

Godfathers

Star Wars

Jaws

Shawshank

Shining

Wedding Crashers

Caddyshack

Platoon

Goldfinger

Hoosiers

Yeah, I couldn't even guess what the 10 best movies I've seen are.   It depends on whose list I'm looking at I suppose.   I know my personal 10 favorite movies are:

1.  Pulp Fiction

2.  The Graduate

3.  The Godfather

4.  Annie Hall

5.  Casablanca

6.  Young Frankenstein

7.  Monty Python and The Holy Grail

8.  This is Spinal Tap

9.  In The Heat of the Night

10.  It Happened One Night
