We don’t smoke marijuana in Muskogee.

It was the time of The Preacher, when the story began.   The choice of a lady, and the love of a man.

Bet it it ain’t rainin back home.  Bet your sister’s still on the phone.

You say the hill's too steep to climb
Chiding!
You say you'd like to see me try
Climbing!
You pick the place and I'll choose the time
And I'll climb

There's a lady who's sure All that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven

When she gets there she knows If the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for

I don't think it's been posted because that is some of the most insipidly trite lyrics of all time. Unless you're stoned out of your gourd on bad weed.

well let me get on this thread's level then,

Hey Joe!
Where'd ya find that purdy girlie
Where'd ya get that jolly dolly
How did ya rate that dish I wish was mine

Hey Joe!
She's got skin that's creamy dreamy
Eyes that look so lovey-dovey
Lips as red as cherry berry wine

Hold on. Are you about to tell us that "some times words have two meanings "?

Stairway is the epitome of drunken drivel. Jim Morrison would've been embarrassed to pen that shit. Really makes you wonder, no?

I don't care if it

Rains or freezes

As long as I've got my

Plastic Jesus

Ridin' on the dashboard

Of my car

I dreamed, I saw Joe Hill last night

Alive as you and me

Says I "But Joe, you're ten years dead"

"I never died" says he

"I never died" says he

It was back around the turn of the centuries, back around nineteen hundred & thirteen there was a negro pugilist his name was Jack Johnson. Now old Jack Johnson he was the toughest man in the whole wide world he used walk around whoppin' people up side the head 'n makin' all sorts of money.

One girl was called Jean Marie

Another little girl was called Felicity

Another little girl was Sally Joy

The other was me, and I'm a boy

Whatcha'll want me to sang this here fer?

Wha- is this evil? 'Kay then...how you pronouce the word?

Chuggamanoo, maneck caneck

Hobbalahoo cammeh

Goodbye to Texas Univerrrsity of Texas

Goodbye to Ernge and da Whi-ite lord

Look, he's crawling up my wall

Black and hairy, very small

Now he's up above my head

Hanging by a little thread

Gimme an F! F!

Gimme an U! U!

Gimme an C! C!

Gimme an K! K!

What's that spell? FUCK!

What's that spell? FUCK!

What's that spell? FUCK!

Come on all of you, big strong men, Uncle Sam needs your help again

He's got himself in a terrible jam, way down yonder in Vietnam

So put down your books and pick up a gun, we're gonna have a whole lotta fun.

Good thing Morrison died in time to miss it, I guess.

how the fuck is welcome to the jungle not in here?  first lines from the first song to the first studio album for a band that practically lived the lyrics

Welcome to the jungle we've got fun and games
We got everything you want honey, we know the names
We are the people that can find whatever you may need
If you got the money, honey we got your disease

I'd gladly lose me to find you
I'd gladly give up all I had
To find you I'd suffer anything and be glad
I'd pay any price just to get you
I'd work all my life and I will
To win you I'd stand naked, stoned and stabbed
I'd call that a bargain
The best I ever had

The Dwarves know what's up, tired of hearing the same old crap on the radio:

Let me show you how it's done

It's time to have some fucking fun

You've been bombarded with retarded fucking shit, nothing but the hits

Now watch me, son

—On a rainy Wednesday morning that's the day that I was born on
In the old sharecropper’s one room country shack

—Don’t worry, if there’s a hell below, we’re all going to go.

—I don’t have to sell my soul, he’s already in me.

—Well the drunken clowns still hanging around. But it’s plain, the laughter’s all died down.

—Out of bed at eight am, out my head at half past ten 10.

—In the back seat of my heart, my love tells me I am a mess.

—In the Morelos mountains campesinos are planting their fields.

—We’ve got a brand new way of living down here in Austin, Texas.

—Well he’s a wino tried and true.

—Let’s not forget the constitution.

—Where concrete meets the railroad tracks, the cinders touch the ties.

—Lightning never strikes any more, but I can’t make it rain because it would only lightning again.

—I don’t remember his name but the bass player from the house band was the only one to escape from the Coconut Grove.

—Let the products sell themselves, fuck advertising, commercial philosophy

—Won’t you let me walk you home from school?

—There is fiction in the space between the lines on your page of memories

—I go to places we used to go

In the days of my youth, I was taught what it means to be a man.

It was a beautiful day.  The sun beat down.  I had the radio on.  I was driving.

I was born in a crossfire-hurricane.

God, what a mess.  On the ladder of success.  Take one step and you miss the whole first rung.

I guess what I'll miss the most will be the mornings.  The squeak of the hardwood floor as you start out your day.

I thought it better not to talk about the letter that you sent.  It was no one else's business.  It was barely even mine.

Absolutely love. Also,

I'll write you a letter tomorrow, Tonight I can't hold a pen...

other rando's:

I can't get no satisfaction

Oh very young, what will you leave us this time...

At home drawing pictures of mountain tops

"Hey, ho, let's go!" or "20, 20, 24 hours to go, I wanna be sedated"

way too many good songs and moods to list them all.

Well hello there, my its been a long long time

Two broken hearts lonely, looking like houses where nobody lives

Take the ribbon from your hair, shake it loose and let it fall

I have seen the morning burning golden on a mountain in the sky, aching with the freedom of an eagle when she flies

A wop bop a loo mop alop bam boom

Don't look so sad, I know its over

How old do you think I am, he said, I said, I don't know

Deep within my heart, lies a melody, a song of old San Antone

Something in the way she moves, attracts me like no other lover

Your boyish reassurance, is not reassuring

Out in the west Texas town of El Paso, I fell in love with a Mexican girl

When I was a child, my family would travel down to western Kentucky where my parents were born

Sam Stone came home, to his wife and family, after serving in the conflict overseas

The first album I consumed repeatedly, end to end, on an old phonograph player in the house.

I heard that on FM radio last night.  Christ, what a band.  That song just burns.

Tom Morello gets bagged on a lot by guitarists these days for the whammy pedal stuff, but that dude came up with a lot of really jolting riffs.   I mean, he's up there behind maybe only Iommi and Page as far as someone who could come up with guitar riffs as song hooks, imo.

Tangent:  in case anyone hasn't seen this, RATM came out of the womb fully formed.  First gig, 1991.  Tom Morello had already graduated Harvard.  You can hear it all here in the early days, they knew what they wanted to do and they damn well did it.  (Morello is such a dork.)
