Willie Taggart seems like a dumbass

Ohhh, gotcha.  I had always heard Gainesville was more of a college town, or at least as close as would get to one in FL.

They have these in Talalalalassee, they don't have em in Gainsville.

Advantage Talalalassee.

They also have a freakshow in Talalalahassee just like in Austin, both city halls and capitol.

Advantage Gainsville.

OU sucks.

4 star S Nick Cross just flipped to Maryland

I guess he wasn't interested in playing defense of back.

ESPN article.......

http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/25980399/maryland-flips-safety-nick-cross-florida-state

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought NCAA added a rule that doesn't allow players to sign with a college that has recently hired their high school coaches??

"Cross is also the second recruit Locksley has beaten Florida State for, the first coming when ESPN 300 quarterback Lance Legendre, a dual-threat QB from New Orleans, decided to sign with the Terps over the Seminoles. Maryland had an advantage with Cross as Locksley had hired Cross' high school head coach at DeMatha Catholic in Elijah Brooks as his new running backs coach."

Francois' dismissal has left FSU with one scholarship QB, James Blackman, expected to be eligible next season. Louisville transfer Jordan Travis would need a waiver approved, and that seems unlikely at best. The current backup is walk-on Nolan McDonald.

As a result, the 'Noles must be active on the grad transfer market. The current situation is inexcusable. But at the same time, Blackman has already explored a transfer. Bolstering depth while keeping the redshirt sophomore is imperative.

If Taggart fails to bring in another quarterback, there's real potential for something awful to happen.

Per Football Scoop:

Florida State: "Greg Frey will not return as offensive coach,  Willie Taggart has announced." Frey is a pretty well respected OL Coach..... Will be interesting to see where he ends up.

K.Briles wants to bring Clements in as new OL Coach..... the stench from Baylor about to get stronger at FSU.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit:  Looks like buyout at UH about to get worked out for Randy Clements..... He's expected to be announced as the FSU OL Coach soon.

I don't know what that all means, but it sounds bad.

Analysts aren't supposed to have coaching capacities on the team, so the NCAA has rules that if you hire a on field coach you can't just stash him as an analyst the next year.  That creates more separation from coaches and analysts/QC guys.  Willie hired 2 WR coaches hoping to stash one as a analyst/QC guy but now he's stuck with 2 WR coaches on his limited coaching staff.

Hurts never looked all that great behind one if the best OLs in the country and with the best defense in the country backing him up. Not sure what he'll do at ou but he has major bust potential there I would think.

So you're saying Hurts seems like he sucks?

I made the mistake of thinking FSU upgraded on Jimbo.

The wilderness through which we wandered before hiring Mack (and, some would argue, after keeping him on so long) should be a cautionary tale. Even blue bloods can have hard times. With Clemson looking so good, Mullen apparently bringing Florida back, Manny looking like he might stir some excitement in Miami, UGA being UGA, and Bama rolling along, there is not going to be an easy path to snapping up the players they need in order to win big. They are surrounded by ravenous wolves, and Florida recruits are more picked over nationally than they were when Bowden started his rise. If Taggart flames out as badly as he appears ready to do, they could be staring into the abyss.

FSU ain't Texas. FSU wasn't shit before the 90s. They had a nice 20 year stretch - zero guarantee they get back to where they once were.

Neither was Florida for the most part. And Miami wasn’t shit until the 80s. For whatever reason college football seemed to take off later in the Florida schools than other parts of the country.

It actually mirrors Texas somewhat

Championship coach coasting along, then finally the lazy recruiting catches up, and they have a terrible season. The replacement coach has no idea what he’s doing. Has to replace offensive staff with Briles disciple.

Probably took them awhile to take advantage of desegregation. Schools with pedigree were better equipped to get the ball rolling quickly during the 70s after desegregation started.  None of the Florida schools had much in the way of history or broad appeal back then.

Maybe they started cheating then.

Waiver denied.... so only 9 on the field coaches for Florida State this season.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/florida-state-will-essentially-coach-with-nine-on-field-assistants-in-2019-after-ncaa-denies-waiver/

Florida State coach Willie Taggart is again coaching from behind the proverbial eight-ball heading into the 2019 season. The second-year Seminoles coach told reporters on Monday that the NCAA denied a waiver request to move recruiting coordinator David Kelly to an off-field role, citing the IAWP (Individual Associated With a Prospect) rule of 2016. What this means is that while Florida State will have 10 on-field assistants for the upcoming season, only nine will have specified position titles and Kelly will assist on Saturdays with his current recruiting coordinator title.

"We tried to get a waiver with Coach Kelly and unfortunately the waiver didn't come through for us moving him off the field," Taggart said per 247Sports. "If that happens then a couple of our players will be ineligible. That's one of those unintended consequences and we thought we'd get the waiver, considering the fact Coach Kelly has been with me at two other spots, not just out out of high school."
