It's disappointing that so few people write or share anything interesting.

Well start it off, Steinbeck…

Discovered during my trip to Europe that if you're in a non-English or Spanish speaking country, you don't get those loud and annoying injected ads in US sporting podcasts. At least for CFB. This week I've made sure to turn on the vpn set to Portugal on my cell phone when I dl or listen and it's worked like a charm. I hear ads, if any, set for the beginning of a podcast, any that are read during the course of the podcast, and commercial breaks established by the podcast producer. But no injected ads that break into the middle of dialogue. YMMV.

Thanks to today’s sponsor, Nord VPN. Hit that like and subscribe button. It really helps out the channel.

Jeff Howe officially joins OTF.

Add Jordan Scruggs and OTF will own the entire market.

The kid knows his stuff, and his knowledge and reports are really good. I'm hoping Bobby can get him aboard at some point.

Years ago while I was suffering cedar fever the Statesman ran a recipe to help combat it. A can of chicken and rice soup and hot Rotelle tomatoes over some nacho chips. Throw some shredded cheese of your choosing on top and microwave at nuke level. Won't heal you but you'll feel better for awhile

My dog walks average ~50 minutes a day.  I recently "discovered" Coffee and Football from OnTexas.

It's a Mon-Fri 60-90 minute podcast talking about Longhorns football.  It's pretty good and works great for the walks.
I set it to play and then shove my cellphone in my pocket and listen for the entire dog walk.
Turns out though, that's a lot of data and my  $20 GoogleFi cheapskate plan ended up as a $60 plan this last billing cycle!

How do I download those to my phone over WiFi and then listen to them without using any data?

Oh sweet, never heard of it. Can you elaborate more?

Also, have you tried Visible (a Verizon company but cheaper), or Mint mobile? Hell, even Cricket.

What do you have currently? The best I've heard of from people who have it is Mint mobile.

I've got a few more months to go with Fi, before I can drop them.  I got the Pixel 9 Pro payment plan and it's a great phone.

Anyways, the podcast description...

"Welcome to On Texas Football, the number one channel for in-depth analysis and discussion about Texas Longhorns football. If you’re interested in taking your gameday knowledge to the next level, Bobby Burton, Gerry Hamilton, Rod Babers and CJ Vogel have you covered with inside recruiting information, roster breakdowns, and updates on the premier college football program in the country!"

They talk about whatever the hot topic is for Longhorns football of the day, or random Longhorn football subjects if it's a quiet day.
Bobby seems to run the blah blah blah stuff and some other guys fill in, like Gerry & CJ and I think there's a new guy this week now?

I had to go onsite for work today, so didn't walk the dogs.  But here's today's 72 minute podcast:

Yeah, I try to watch their show daily after work. I can't stand their podcast. But nevertheless it's a good listen when you can see them.

As for your phone, wait it out, then switch. I really do recommend Mint Mobile due to some friends of mine that have it. It's very affordable and has unlimited everything. Not sure what all phones they have, but I know some have the iPhone, and I want to say I think one of them has the Google pixel, which has an amazing screen that folds. Is that what you have?

I'll check out Mint, thanks.

I've got the regular Pixel 9 Pro.
I think its like 5.7" or something.
Loud speakers!  Bright display even under sunlight.

I should already know how to do the YouTube stuff but never got around to figuring out the ins and outs.

I do the same thing with my dog. I'm subscribed to YouTube premium (not the same thing as YouTube TV). It is eliminates ads while letting you download videos and/or play in the background. Great for road trips and flights too.

13.99/month

It shouldn't be hard. I'm sure it has Safari, which I personally use because I hate Tapa. But yeah, Mint seems to be great, affordable, owned by Ryan Reynolds and his partner (seriously, and they're serious about helping the customer save money for a better plan). After my contract runs out from Sprint I think I'm going there. I want to say they offer the newest iPhone for signing up (don't quote me on that, but I think they do if  you're into that).

Wait, I've gotta spend money to save money?!
What kinda boo shit is this.

Don't do the YouTube TV shit. We did it and it was disappointing to say the least. You can get sports on regular YouTube because tons of people upload them for free and they're live.

YouTube Premium let's you download for offline use plus no ads. It's the best money I spend every month.

They literally put them out as podcasts on Spotify audio only. There's also an audio only option on YouTube I'm pretty sure.

Thanks, guys.  I checked into it today.  The premium Spotify lets you download anything you want(?).
The free Spotify doesn't, but it DOES let you download podcasts for offline listening!

So, I get to keep my cheap $20, 1GB data plan and don't have to pay anything to listen to podcasts on my long dog walks.

Here are the Spotify podcasts I've "followed" today.  Click the links to open in Spotify, so you can follow them.

On Texas Football

3rd & Longhorn

Inside Texas Football

I also discovered that I don't have to manually download anything.
You can actually configure Spotify to auto-download all new podcasts!
To do that, you just click the three-dot menu:

image.png.91d6de9565626c9163edd1ca9e072dcf.png

Then, enable the auto-download option:
image.png.f8ecf6ea5fb25644b08a628398f88a3a.png

If you don't want to auto-download, then just click the download button on each podcast you want to listen to.
A green checkbox indicates an episode you've downloaded:

image.png.ccdb50a0222a1668a7eb60a19e5b8b74.png

I tested by downloading some episodes.
Then, I turned on "Airplane mode" and pressed play.
Nothing happened.

I turned off airplane mode and clicked play and it started playing.
But I wanted to make sure I was getting offline playback.
So, I turned off WiFi and Data and clicked play and it still works!
No hiccups during todays hour-long dog walk even though I had WiFi & Data disabled the entire time.

Thanks!
