Some of the fall out from this event.

1- Diplomatic ties are fucked.

2- If you were on a special visa as a Pakistani, ya gotta leave India. Now.

3- Halt of the Indus River agreement. No water going down into Pakistan.

#3 is massive.

What is the water treaty India has suspended with Pakistan?

In response to Monday's deadly attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir, India said it would suspend the Indus Water Treaty - which has been in place since 1960 and survived decades of hostile incidents between the two countries.

The treaty governs water sharing of the water supply from the Indus river and its distributaries. Under the agreement, India has control over the eastern rivers, and Pakistan the western ones. It also allows each country certain uses of the rivers allocated to the other,

The agreement also stipulates that India must, with few exceptions, allow water from the western rivers to flow downstream into Pakistan.

The suspension of the agreement is likely to impact millions of Pakistanis who depend on the treaty for their water supply and livelihoods.

So some Pakistani terrorists turned it to 11 and blew up any change of peace between India and Pakistan.  Pakistan is the weaker party, and they set them to lose biggly.  Cool cool.  Death cult.

The Water Wars have begun. This is agreement was a major win for cross boundary water cooperation. With past events it was never cancelled. Borders closed, all visas revoked and diplomatic missions being pulled back to the respective nations. Have not seen anything on the armed forces mobilzing but they tend to remain on a war footing along the border.

Fun times.

Pakistan announces retaliatory response

05:59Breaking

Pakistan’s National Security Committee has responded to India’s retaliatory measures that followed the Pahalgam attacks.

In a strongly worded statement from Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif's office, Islamabad said it rejected the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by India, adding that any attempt to stop or divert the water “will be considered as an Act of War" and "responded with full force across the complete spectrum of National Power".

It has also decided to put on hold all bilateral agreements with India and said it was closing down the Wagah Border Post with immediate effect.

Unlike the U.S., Pakistan actually does have a deep state of mostly unaccountable and uncontrolled elements within the security and military sectors.  The long coziness with Islamist terror groups has gotten them into a wag the dog situation where the relationship is not entirely instrumental and true believers and radicals have a home in the apparatus.

It’s hard to see how this happened without at least the tacit approval of ISI or a part of it. At the same time, entirely plausible that Pakistan’s political leadership was unaware. The fact that it happened in Kashmir will lead India to calibrate a bit in a way an attack in non-disputed territory would not.

Jammu and Kashmir has to be one of the longest ongoing border disputes.  They've been at odds since the Partition (1947) and the status quo doesn't have an end in sight.

I'm just glad that the US has leadership so bigly strong now that nobody in the world dares start a war, lest it upset the US, the most respected country in the world with the most respect its ever had.  Right?

Jesus, just imagining how badly we'll botch the relatively limited role we'll have in this matter is going to be super fun.

We have a real role. And we have a large contingent of voters who will want either side to be supported.

This is going to be fucked up if the balloon goes up.

Modi is a monster of a leader, he's already promised a response "beyond imagination" and his flavor of Hindiusm will demand a big response here. Pakistan is really struggling lately (economically, politically) so it will be interesting to see if they even muster a response. It's in everyone's best interest to let India get their "get back" and move on and take the L because of your loser terrorists IMO.

Just because American Media doesn't cover something doesn't mean it's not important.   Oh, look, wrestling is on.   Gotta go...

Modi hails from the biggest Islamiphobic, Pakistan hating state in India. No way this goes quietly.

He was in the RSS as a child like all good Gujaratis, to your point. He's stated as much that this isn't going away quietly. And while I get this was an extremist organization, but Pakistan has long been unable or unwilling to keep the terrorists in their borders at bay and some of this blood is on the State's hands.
