Holy Shit ... I just binge watched this show. FUCKING fantastic.  Henry Winkler is awesome.  I saw the Skeleton Twins so I knew that Hader had some acting chops but he's amazing in this.  Sarah Goldberg is adorable, though self-absorbed .... the guy who plays Noho Hank is great. The writing is great. The violence is pretty realistic and not over the top i.e. it's not violence porn.

9 out 10.  Would be a 10 if Sarah Goldberg got naked.

Where did the nickname “Baz” come from? He was called that two or three times in Ep 1. I don’t remember him being called that once last season.

Sad cop is on to Barry, which means he’ll  be dead soon.

(Just looked up Noho Hank and Anthony Carrington has alopecia, and started shaving everything at 30.This was obviously a before picture.)

It was a great start but I'm starting to hate Barry. He's being such a dick. I kinda want Hank to burn him. He better do right by my boy Hank.

Hank in the clothing shop cracked me up. "It's me, Hank. I'm wearing a wig." lol

enjoyed, as always.  that said, having fuchs training a new barry would've been a lot of fun to watch, instead of just seeing the last act.  that was great physical comedy.  obviously they needed to get fuchs in custody, the coke can, etc.

not sure how i feel about winkler in deep depression with barry as "the only one who hasn't come to terms with what happened to janice."

last season was all about barry trying to leave the life, but repeatedly getting pulled back into it.  hopefully they build on that this season.  so far, it seems to be the same.

Agreed, love the lululemon scene.

Barry is a sociopath. He has no grip on what others might find important or emotional. He is trying to fit in but does not have the tools to successfully do so. He is a little different in that he is trying to become a "real boy". That leads to what we might call dickish behavior. You either love that about him or not. You can't waffle on it though. Much like watching a stand up comic that does a ton of "controversial" humor. You can't laugh when they make fun of everyone else but then when something hits close to home, hate on them for it.

my favorite exchange was between barry and his girlfriend about her being there for him.

I want to be there for you. But tomorrow, not too early, like around noon after yoga but before an audition I need to prepare for, OK?

The Fuches Flip would seem to be the end for ol’ Barry, unless the cop is the most lone wolf of all Lone Wolves, and somehow checked out a surveillance van without revealing to his superiors why.

Let’s see how our hero gets out of this one!

based on what we saw in the finale, i know what i'm about to say would take some serious fucking gymnastics...but i really hope barry didn't kill janice.

something that significant this early in the series basically puts the heat on barry for the remainder of the series.  the main cop is already up his ass and using his closest relationship to get the goods.  unless this series was only intended to last two seasons, it's gonna need some sort of turn/twist away from this.

Fuchs and Hank put their necks on the line for Barry and he tells them to pound sand. His girlfriend won't even skip yoga for him, and he's constantly there for her.

I did love her highlight reel though. The lobster claws were a nice touch.

lulz at the douchebag gersh agents, making comments about the pilot presentation "how did that not get picked up" - disregarding the fact that she was barely in the scene at all.  a not-so-subtle jab at packaging i'm sure.  that drama is up to 11 right now.

Yeah I think the “off camera” moment in the finale is the key to get the cop off his trail. What that is who knows.

I don't think this is a long series, not from the interviews Hader's been giving.  Three is good.  Anymore and we're in season eight of Dr. Melfi territory.

Yeah everything I've read and heard from Hader and/or Alec Berg is that they are aware this show can't go on very long. My guess is 3 seasons and out.

I love this show; think it’s the best new show I’ve seen the last two years. A few notes that jump out at me:

”Barry Berg-man” clap clap clapclapclap was such a powerful scene and I thought it was so integral to Barry as a character and how and why he is what he is. He was a quiet dweeb who found out he was great at something and got high off the adoration and power. It’s like the military version of what all these thespian losers he’s associating wish to have.

The female is such an unlikeable character to me but I think she’s extremely well profiled as a character because everything about her blares insecure, self-absorbed, mediocre talent and embodies a whole demographic in that LA wanna be movie star scene.

While Hader is awesome and I think he’s done his career a real favor by showing the world he can act like this, NoHo Hank is the breakout star. Scene stealer. I loved his response post-disrespect which I feel gives him more depth than just a comedic foil.

Winklers response and reactions (and purported emotional connection) to janice is outsized and doesn’t fit the story. He’s a narcissistic snake oil salesman taking advantage of no talents who only cares about trying to make him look good, not some guy who would fall head over heels in weeks over some random police lady.

I agree with all of your analysis except for this.

Gene may be narcissistic, but I don't equate him to a snake oil salesman...because snake oil salesmen are grifters who know they are conning the marks.

IMO, Gene really believes in the power of what he's doing.  His character has been a working actor in L.A. for 30 years and he feels that he really does have sage wisdom to pass along to these aspiring actors.

And falling head over heels in short order is pretty realistic for a creative/artistic type... think about how many Hollywood marriages just happen and last like 6 months.

imo and ime having a giant and specifically externally visible/dramatic response to any personal tragedy (small medium or large) is extremely consistent with a narcissist and I would imagine even more so for a narcissist whose self image is that of a serious dramatic ac-tor of stage and film.

I love how the whole class is all bummed they don't have any traumatic experiences in their life as awful as Barry's war experience. Everyone except his girlfriend, who is too preoccupied with herself and her career to worry about such things. And then we find out she just has bit parts as a glorified extra in most of them, with her best role being a space lobster. lol...

That's another thing, is she actually his girlfriend?  It's like an in-person long distance relationship, or something. It's so awkward, I don't even understand it, but it's great to laugh at.

NoHo Hank might be my favorite character on any show I'm watching right now.  Everything about that character is fun and different.   It'll be weird to see that actor in other shows with hair and eyebrows.  Stephen Root is always good but he's at his best playing morally bankrupt characters.  The bit where he makes up a story about a foreign prostitute stealing his tooth as a trophy, "like an ivory tusk or a rhino horn" is genius level comedy.  Favorite show on TV at the moment.

Anthony Carrigan was on Seth Meyers last week. I didn't know he had alopecia, thought it was just a character look thing. He's actually Chechen, too.

I guess that explains why his accent is so dead on.  I wonder if they re-wrote that character after finding the actor.

Barry is about to take out some aggression on Sally's ex.  All on a detail of a story she made up seems like.  The training scene in the desert was funny by the way.

Seems like she did not entirely make it up. Her friend mentioned her having marks on her neck. Seems she just made up the line she supposedly told to him. Seems more likely that he passed out and she took that as her chance to flee.
