But, but, but.  He loses by 10.

-Surly geniuses (who also predict we have a puncher’s chance against OU/Alabama in 2022).

Texas’s chances against Alabama are probably pretty similar to Beto’s; essentially non existent. For both, I’ll show up, I’ll be loud, I’ll sweat tailgating/walking blocks, but it ain’t gonna make a shit.

clearly, we will beat bama, but the margin in this election is going to be new voter registration and turn out.

Republicans on the Supreme Court may help with that.

In 2018, Cruz got 4.26 million votes, Beto got 4.05 million votes.

In 2020, Trump got 5.89 million votes, Biden got 5.25 million votes.

There’s over 17 million registered voters in Texas.  Many registered in recent years.

Mexican Americans fucked Texas. If they can get the back blue it's super over for republicans

don't know what the split is for Texas, but recently read that 4M people turn 18 in time to vote in November. That should help some blue races as well. Remains to be seen where, though

Here’s hoping that Republicans talk more about banning contraception and just trying to ban sex outside of hetero marriage in general.  They are so ecstatic over abortion that they might just do that.

might? many already are. they are trying to seize the moment and I don't think the younger generation is going to let them. at least that's my hope

They don't vote, and lots of them at that age are proxies for their parents' and corches shitty political views.

while I think that's partially true (certainly applied to me when I turned 18) but there are a lot more plugged-in adolescents and teens than when you and I were the same age. I think it makes a difference this cycle, as it did in the last 2

I hope you are right. But Millennials and Gen-X were also pretty "plugged in" and the voting practices didn't change much when they were 18-30

As a GenXer and parent of two GenZ kids - this bunch of kids is different.

Even my son - a Republican and active duty Marine - is PISSED about the abortion stuff and the latest to come out about 1/6.

My daughter is a full blown AOC wannabe socialist so she’s been marching since before she could drive lol.

They’re more plugged in and more opinionated and more active.

And even their “conservative” brethren don’t buy all this culture war bullshittery. They’ve never seen the government boot on the necks of women and gay people and minorities like older people have. These kids actually grew up with girls in charge and with gay friends and friends with gay parents and with kids of all hues.

And their parents didn’t start spewing crazy shit until they were already almost grown.

I hope you are right, but it's statistically more likely that you're in a bubble. My guess is you're much smarter than most of your neighbors and so are your kids. Your son and daughter had their counterparts in Gen X and Gen Y, and those counterparts were politically vocal and voted, but there just weren't enough of them and if that trend holds it will be the same with Gen Z. I want to be wrong, but stats gonna stats.

When we turned 18, we didn’t have Republicans fresh off of a victory over abortion, bragging about going after contraception, and telling us that if we want to bang somebody of the same gender, we are going to jail.  Of course, when I was 18, it was illegal to bang somebody of the same gender in Texas.

If the Democrats can’t get their shit together, the Republicans appear to want to help them. If I was George Soros, I’d be tossing money at Republican politicians who are talking about going after contraception and gay sex.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the launch of the Iraq War still holds the Austin record for the largest turnout for a protest. And the city was much smaller back then.

18 year olds would vote overwhelmingly to raise the age limit on not only assault rifle purchases (they’d vote to ban them outright), but all guns.

The irony of dipshit single issue gun olds like this one here is that they are dooming their cause. Everyone 30 and under doesn’t remember a time before mass shootings at schools and elsewhere. The gun control sentiment in millennials and gen z is much stronger that it would have otherwise been if there had been anything done over the course of the past 20+ years.

Man, if just half the Dems around the country campaigned like Beto, I feel like everything would be completely different. He's everywhere, always going, and he's putting out some good attacks on social media (I would like to see them on radio/TV). He may not win, but it's not going to be for lack of effort.
