It’s amusing that the right wing hate machine and it’s audience of sheep think the rest of the normal people in the country give one single shit about what they yell at each other about all day every day.

Their credibility is totally shot among the real world. They’re just talking to themselves so Fox News can make money and the sheep can feel justified for their objectively racist, fascist and insane beliefs.

Definitely something to this. Sometimes I get depressed when I see stories about Fox's ratings and Carlson averaging 3M viewers a night. But all it is is a moderately sized circle jerk. If you want to watch "conservative news" as it exists today (conspiracy theories, culture wars, and fear mongering and socialism) on your cable television, you only have a few options. It's incredibly insular, and they've definitely become the minority.

I'm surprised they haven't gotten around to Seth Meyers before (maybe they have and I missed it). Seems an easy (((target))) for them.

They really don't want to poke that bear.

You had to know Doocy was gunning for the WH today because of the butthurtedness. Still say that the WH is under no requirement to allow special access to entertainment broadcast media.

Add: and if they omitted CNN, that would be fine too.

See, they need to fucking call this out.  Quit treating them like they are legit.  They are being sued into Bolivia right now for being completely full of shit and knowing it.  CALL THEM ON IT.

This goes for all Republicans and conservative media in general.  I'm so fucking tired of pretending like these are serious human beings.  They are not.  The longer we don't call them out, the longer they will keep doing it and the longer it will take to move forward in society.

I'm going to violate the both siderism, but IMO, any "news" corp should have a better than a certain percent accuracy if they're going to be in the WH pool and credentialed by the WH Correspondent's Association. That's why I called out CNN too. They are not much better with fact checking but have less pseudoscience. I mean, people get that there can be bias in reporting, but making stuff up is not news, it's tabloid and should be treated as such. The problem is, I do not want to restrict the press or censor the press and this is in that territory and right through the front door into the living room of the WH. So, I'm a little squeamish about it were it to come from anywhere but the journalists and the media orgs themselves. They have the right to censor, but the government should not. I guess calling them out, however, isn't censorship nor is it forbidden any more than the former President name calling reporters when he disliked a question. Which was bad form and rude by the way.

The WHCA operates independently of the White House, so technically they control the credentials and who has access, so they may have been the ones to shut out Fox and Doocy for all I know. They could perhaps crack down on their own membership should they choose to do so, but money talks and walks and that's the name of the game.

Right, I'm not calling for them to be banned, thought that would be nice.  I am calling for them to be shamed.  I am calling for them to be treated like the insolent children they are.

Psaki handles it pretty well. What I don't like is when it is about them--the interaction--versus what the topic is supposed to be. So yes, calling out insolence and shutting down unproductive question lines is part of the job description or at least it should be. Spicer would get combative and angry and I didn't find that helpful, regardless of how I felt about him. The lies upon lies were just stupid and a bunch of them did that.

Agreed and I'm not just talking about the daily briefings.  This needs to be across the board.  When Ted Cruz starts his bullshit in congress, he needs to be called out.  He needs to be told he's not a serious human being and nobody believes he is genuine.  When Matt Gaetz goes on one of his rampages, same thing.  Shut them down.

I have advocated them being shutdown because of the damage they have willingly and maliciously inflicted upon our society. We have a country with millions of people who were sucked into this propaganda machine and what it produced was the hatred of minorities and it championed a culture of white nationalism. That in and of itself is so incredibly detrimental to our country because it fills the heads of those who bought in with lies and it spawned full throated hatred of people they share a country with. My view is one of how we treat each other in society. Fox is violating a basic social contract that should be the basis for any society that wishes to function like a whole and not a scattered collection of people who distrust one another.

If you are a “news organization” whose priority is the ones we see Fox espouse you should not be credentialed as a journalist if you work for them and they should be put into the entertainment (Not my kind of entertainment obviously) category and left there. When you F around like Fox has there comes a time when you will find out the consequences of those actions.

I understand your point, and agree they have done damage. However, it's like the gun control issue where somewhere there has to be real estate between shutdown (take all the guns) and the wild wild west. Otherwise it's what happens in autocracies and other repressive regimes. Denying credentials and access begins to spread out to people who don't bow to the leader. It's why the organization, in this case the WHCA, which is outside of WH government control needs to take the lead. Now, a tyrannical leader could install a WHCA president who is loyal to him or her and circumvent that, but if that were to happen, things might already be in a bad bad way.

Pardon, maybe that is what you meant about credentials and the org. Apologies if I misunderstood your thinking.

The overloads need Fox News. AT&T, Comcast, and Spectrum could end Fox News anytime they want but they never will b/c they’re in on the great troll that is corporate media.  Keep the voting population fighting over Dr Seuss, bathroom bills, and statues of dead racists while we jack up the prices and corner more markets.  Keep everyone stupid and poor, they’re much easier to exploit that way.

As a former cable company rep, I can say you don’t know what you’re talking about. we would get so much shit for cancelling FOX News from regulatory action to wacko customer calls, that it wouldnt even be a possibility. No one likes the cable company. People love their cable channels.

And if you go to Peggi’s Twitter?

50bb19789cb0f5d414ed061a7afdc07a.jpg
And her timeline is covered UP with a ton of Never-Trumper retweets from The Lincoln Project and Joe Walsh and Noel Cassler etc.

I hope the NYC DA or NY state AG or current DOJ have a little chat with her - think she’s got any interesting information?

New $1.6B Dominion lawsuit against Fox News. Unless Fox can get it dismissed, I hope their settlement is >$1B. There is no way they can allow their talent to testify or have internal emails exposed.

That's going to take a shitload of commercials for pillows, gold coins, and male vitamin supplements to pay for it.

What we really need is a-la-carte cable TV. It sickens me that I'm helping subsidize fucks like Fox News every month by paying my youtube TV bill.

Think about how much people who don’t like sports are subsidizing your access to ESPN (which at least used to be the highest priced channel on cable). Also think about how much the home shopping networks are subsidizing everything else you might want to watch. I agree it would be nice, but it might actually turn out to be more expensive if you got what you want.

Jumping off from this point to ask why hasn't someone come out with a new streaming service that specifically advertises that it will not carry Fox, OANN, etc.?

I honestly think there's tens of millions of folks who would switch.

Trashy bits from Boehner’s new book:

Quote

And of course the truly nutty business about his birth certificate. People really had been brainwashed into believing Barack Obama was some Manchurian candidate planning to betray America.

Mark Levin was the first to go on the radio and spout off this crazy nonsense. It got him ratings, so eventually he dragged Hannity and Rush to Looneyville along with him. My longtime friend Roger Ailes, the head of Fox News, was not immune to this. He got swept into the conspiracies and the paranoia and became an almost unrecognizable figure.

He goes off on Hannity too.

Yeah, that’s all good and shit but it’s just another example of a partisan, obstructionist GOP asshole who led the way on the march to crazy town and is now speaking out against those who followed his lead and passed him by. Boehner sucked. He only looks better now because his fellow Republicans have gone further down the hole of suckitude. (He was also orange before orange was fashionable.)

I recall my uncle asking me at a Christmas dinner* one time what I thought of the new House Speaker from Cincinnati. This was the same uncle who ordered the Jerry Falwell-distributed Clinton Chronicles videotape and showed it to my family during a holiday get together in the early 90’s (and everyone gobbled up that bullshit like it was gospel truth). I told him I didn’t know but I was pretty sure he would just be an obstructionist and that’s all he was. Congrats, John. (Coincidentally also the name of my uncle.) You were anchored enough to reality not to accuse Obama of being a secret Kenyan Muslim. It’s nice that you’re finally speaking out about it NOW you fucking tool. Yeah, I’ll try to pass this article around to some of my family members but I’m not about to buy his fucking book.

* My mom’s side of the family comes from a small town in northern Indiana. That Christmas, an uncle (not John) and aunt wanted to host everyone at their place on Christmas for pizza. I assumed maybe they were planning to bake pizzas. (All the families had already celebrated separately.) But no, they were just planning to order from Papa John’s. (Will these coincidences never cease?) Lo and behold, the Papa John’s in this tiny town of a few thousand people was CLOSED ON CHRISTMAS! Who could have seen that coming? So they had everyone over for soup. Because nothing says Christmas like a bowl of soup.

This.  Fuck you guys who helped build the bonfire, start the fire, fan the initial flames, and then want credit for tossing a couple of glasses of water on the raging fire.

You want REAL contrition?  Admit that what you supported was wrong, and did harm.  And actively work against the results of that.

If you don't do that, fuck you, arsonists.  Burn in hell with the rest of em.
