Hmm, where? The only place I've seen critical race theory discussed recently has been on this thread from people posting images and videos from Fox News complaining about critical race theory.

I still have absolutely no fucking clue what it is or what it's supposed to be.

I had never heard of it either until this board started posting FNC. I have no idea what it is either, and have no desire to know.

Apparently, it's the latest thing that Fox News needs its viewers to be upset about.

Tucker pulls in about 3 million viewers a night, and 2.5 million of those are over the age of 50.

So start asking all the older people you know if it's an issue, and you will quickly identify the FNC/Tucker fans.

Can you help an ignorant person understand the "whole 'Canyon Lake' thing?"

I ask because my wife really, really wants to retire to the Hill Country but the anecdotes I keep seeing about it's redness are making me think maybe Virginia.

Canyon Lake is for people who think Wimberley is too liberal.

I try not to associate with many people over 50

Went to Canyon Lake this weekend to visit some friends.  One of the churches we passed on 306 had a "Critical Race Theory and the Bible" on their Sunday sermon sign out front. I'm guessing that congregation is just a tad Trumpy.

There is always certain % of white people who will always get fired up about being replaced by non-white people. In some form or another.

It isn't that bad. I've been out here 16 years and I would just describe the area as rural like any other rural area in the country. With that said, the place isn't far from being suburbanized then future suburbanites will walk to flock to new rural areas while complaining about rural people.

It's a race relations viewpoint that is supposedly being taught in public schools and diversity training. Or the right wingers are trying to preempt it from being taught in public schools. I'm not sure which it is, probably both. I know UT and other universities have courses based on it.

From my limited understanding of CRT, it argues that policy and actions that don't have racist intentions but produce disproportionately negative effects for POC. An example would be single family zoning; it's a racist policy because it tends to limit the number of minorities. So it basically expands the definition of "racism" beyond what some (including me) conceive it to mean.

But that concern is really just a semantic one. Another common objection is that CRT looking at almost everything through a racial lens is counterproductive in various ways, including nurturing resentment and guilt of whites, and all for things they didn't even intentionally cause.

Note that I haven't studied CRT and the above is based on my limited reading of commentary re: CRT, so anyone interested should do their own research. Hopefully this post is at least a little accurate and useful to those who aren't or weren't sufficiently interested.

Interesting thing about this explanation, as high level and light as it is, I suspect it is more explanation than has ever been put on Fox News, where this is the new boogeyman.  They don't want to define things too well because that limits their options to use it as a scare tactic.  It's why your average magat has no clue how to define communism or socialism.

Or appreciate how much they and their fellow magats benefit from socialistic programs right here in the good ol' US of A.

The bigger "holy shit" is his "you're entitled to your own opinion, not your own facts" statement at the end.

A fucking Republican said that.  That is amazeballs level of a lack of self-awareness.

Did he miss the part where colonial leaders asked the Iroquois Confederacy to speak with them in Pennsylvania?

I think I was WAY off on my estimate of how many just patently stupid people there are out there. I was thinking it was hovering around 50% but that sounds about 25% too low

“Baskets” was a gross understatement.

I have never heard of critical race theory outside of this board.

I hadn’t either until it popped up during the most recent Highland Park School Board election. Holy hell was that a doozy. Luckily, the qualified candidate kicked the conservative plant’s ass. Oh, the plant was a blonde realtor. That side hired an out-of-state political consultant and spent like $40K on a school board election — let that sink in.

Cheating in Kentucky?  I'm shocked.

According to a horse surgeon I know, pulling Ritalin into a syringe, and then pushing the plunger, forcing the drug out, leaves enough, so that when a horse’s blood is pulled in and pushed back into the vein, to affect performance awhile avoiding detection.

The fox and allied friend network silo needs to merge back into reality or lose the news branding.

The devotion in the face of ongoing betrayal is remarkable - and those lining up to sell more of that media product is repulsive.

What would LBJ have done if Nixonian thugs pushed his agenda after he lost in 1960 to JFK? My guess is LBJ would have broken the back of Dixie if they joined up in a fight with a thug like Nixon.

Texas needs to pivot to the West - away from the South (no offense to Southerners, but Texas is Texas, not the South).

Southern politics only brought Texas more dirt, squalor and death.

The Southwest (New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado) is the future, not the broken down rest of the nation (no offense to the rest of the nation, but Texas is different and needs infrastructure for new industry and technology).

Texas needs to get out of the mud pit and get back to business.

Beware of aggy yankee bearing gifts; it's most likely sexually transmitted somewhere down the line.

That's like eating bat soup, don't cha know.

Brother and Sisters, you know what it says in the Bible about Critical Race Theory.

Why don't you tell us all what it says?

Well … it's against it.

I would love to drop in on a sermon like that just so I could say from the back of the gallery "you mean like it's "against" abortion?......NUMBERS CHAPTER 5!!!" and just fucking run.. My 40 yard dash time isn't what it used to be, but I'm pretty sure I'd clear out of their range in the 5 minutes it would take for them to say "STOP HIM; HE'S HEADED FOR THE WINDOW!!!"

Oh for fuck's sake, a couple months ago I also saw a guy with a sign on Mockingbird and 75. Thought it was just a run of the mill panhandler, then I got closer and realized this dude lived in or around HP and his sign said "Reject teaching critical race theory at HPISD Schools."

I haven't seen white people THIS flipped out about something since there were rumors of a pumpkin spice shortage back in '09.

Apparently I learned the wrong lesson from my church when I was growing up because they taught me this song and I took it to heart:

Jesus loves the little children
All the children of the world
Red, brown, yellow, black, and white
They are precious in his sight
Jesus loves the little children of the world
