That’s a pretty fair assessment. I would be surprised if LeMahieu only put up a 99 wRC+ going forward (I think projection systems penalize him too much for playing in Coors his whole career), but Alvarez seems like a safe bet to top 110 the way he’s playing.

Yeah the LeMahieu number seemed low to me too. But other than that and the Alvarez wild card...each of those numbers seems about right.

Cruising to the playoffs and resting everybody and playing zero meaningful games before the playoffs start usually works out well for teams

Worked out fine in 2017.  Did okay for Boston last year as well.

Nothing "penalizes" a guy for playing in Coors.  Projection systems normalize the numbers because it's literally like playing in a different reality.  See the post directly above this.

92 runs, most ever in 4-game series. MLB.com has a long write-up on all the crazy shit.

Blackmon led off Sunday's game with a homer, and he singled later in the frame. Another single in the sixth brought him to 15 hits in the series, setting the Major League record for a four-game series. Buck Jordan of the Braves in 1934 and Bill White of the Cardinals in '61 had 14.

I’m not saying he should’ve done a better job at it necessarily. I’m just saying it’s obvious he’s really frustrated with that move. And he should be. Maybe they’re just sending him down to get better defensively, but it sucks for him.

Sucks Frazier got sent down. He’s played great but the upcoming roster crunch had to be dealt with. Tauchman probably has less than a week left before getting released for Judge. Wish Frazier could stay, but he clearly never bought into doing things the Yankee Way and wasn’t a culture fit. Will probably get traded for a pitcher soon.

It's still mind-blowing to me that so many players are incapable of doing that

They will learn. Maybe some of the veteran players won’t bother but the young guys trying to get to the big leagues will learn.

That was one of the arguments for why there shouldn't be any rules limiting the shift years ago. It never materialized. Almost no one bunts to beat it or adjusts their swing to go the opposite way. That's because analytics say it's better to strikeout 600 times in a season trying to homer over the shift than it is to have a balanced approach at the plate. It'll end up killing the sport eventually but Bill James thinks it's a good idea so it must be true.

He didn’t shit on anybody and he didn’t come off as an entitled little bitch. If he says it’s all sunshine and rainbows with a shit eating grin everyone knows he’s full of shit.

Hitting-wise he has done what has been expected and he is a big reason the Yanks have weathered all of the injuries to this point in the season. If he could play right field at just a league average level he would not have been sent down.

As has been noted, there's a good chance he winds up being traded in a package for a frontline starter like Bumgarner or Scherzer. Overall he seems like a nice guy who loves the game so it's not hard to feel his frustration right now.

As long as MLB balls are juiced, as they clearly are this year, it's probably the correct approach. It's June 18 and 8 guys already have 20+ HR, and 7 more are at 19. Overall, MLB is on pace to hit approximately 1,000 more HR than last year. That's what will kill the sport.

Return the balls (and, thus, HR) to normal and players would be more incentivized to beat shifts in this way. But as long as guys like Ketel Marte hit HR like they're Ken Griffey Jr, not many are going to adjust their approach.

The idea that "fans want to see HRs" is goofy...fans want to see players doing outstanding things that few can do; when every MLB regular hits 20+ HR, they lose their appeal, and other parts of the game are sacrificed.

I think it's becoming pretty clear that MLB doesn't have near the control over the balls as they should.  Perhaps they should move the manufacturing facility out of Costa Rica or Haiti or wherever to someplace closer.

Fuck that douche, should have been a 3 to 5 game suspension. The pitch was questionable but per the announcers the ump had been calling that pitch strikes. It looked to me as it caught a piece of the plate as it crossed the plate.

I was more making fun of all the hashtags.

Agree with both of these.  If the ump says he made contact and it's not clear that he didn't, then he has to go for more than 1 game.  But the umpire union twitter looks like it's controlled by a 13-yo girl.

I'm a bit skeptical of putting Stanton on a soaking wet field for his first game back in two and a half months. He should be DH'ing tonight in my opinion with Gardy in the field and Encarnacion or Voit sitting this one out.

Walk in and see Blake Snell throw about 5 of his 40 1st inning pitches before he gets pulled after just one out. Hope he isn't hurt and just had a bad inning.

Rays end the inning down 6-0. Colin Poche came in and plunked Urshela and his own catcher, d'Arnaud, as well.

This has been a very odd game. Yanks have 12 runs on 8 hits. Scored 6 in the first on three hits and now 6 in the 7th on 5 hits including Gleyber's 1st career grand slam. They had no hits in the prior five innings. Baseball is such an odd sport at times.
