I just saw it and I actually think it’s his best film.  I don’t think I can be talked out of that. It really struck a chord with me. Pitt and DiCaprio were freaking nails. I’m going to think about this one a while and will probably go see it again.  Not sure what it was, but damn it really resonated with me artistically. I totally understand how some are going to hate it too.

I agree that they were both great, particularly Pitt.  I just thought the story was "meh".  If you liked it, good for you.

A sobering thought I just had: the setting of this movie is closer in time to Quentin's first movie Reservoir Dogs (23 years) than we are right now from it (27).

Meh is a long way from steaming pile of dog shit.

Honestly, I thought that first post didn't "post".

I had just returned from the theater when I typed that.

I think that the movie is horribly overrated, particularly on this thread.  It's "OK" at best.  It's not great, hell, it's not even good.  If this movie were made by "Leslie Goldblatt" instead of Tarantino, I suspect that folks on this board wouldn't love it quite as much.

I suspect that people love it because they expected to love it.

Your mileage may vary.  If you assholes want to see it a dozen times, go for it.  I won't see it again, and I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it on HBO.

This isn't the first time that I've disliked a move while y'all were busy sucking each other's dicks over it (Dunkirk).

tarantino is a cinematic genius.  you don’t get it because you’re a simple-minded moron.

Tarantino loves movies. I love movies. This is his love letter to Hollywood in the 60s. If I were Emperor God I would have Tarantino make a movie for the 40s and one for the 50s too.

Oh go fuck yourself.

He is right though. And you’re extremely wrong. If Leslie Goldblatt, or just about anyone else, tried to make this movie, it would be a steaming pile of dog shit. Instead of spouting your opinion like it’s fact, just accept the fact that you don’t “get” QT and stay the hell out of threads about him. I don’t get 2001. I can’t stand Terrance Mallick. It happens.

Or keep showing up in threads about things you don’t like and talk down to people who do so you can feel superior. Your choice.

It's not a budget thing like not filming the heist scene in Reservoir Dogs

I didn’t know that. Is this a known truth?  I think a very strong argument can be made that the movie was even better NOT seeing the heist and having to piece together what happened.

It’s true and I agree.

I personally enjoyed it. I thought to a large degree it was live action BoJack Horseman except with more violence and feet, and shot in a visually interesting manner. Plus, nothing better than having Snoopy vs. the Red Baron playing during a key part.

Dirty feet. Dirty feet belonging to Margot Robbie, Margaret Qualley, and Dakota Fanning spedifically.

Who was McQueen talking to at the Playboy mansion? Someone famous or just a random playmate? Man Tarantino stacks his movies with such hot women, but I guess he balances it out with Lena Dunham and Kevin Smith's hideous daughter.

If I recall correctly, I believe he was talking to Michelle Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas and later you see them with what I’m assuming was supposed to be Cass Elliot (also of The Mamas and the Papas)

If he's talking about the blonde with short hair, I think that was Connie Stevens

Did Steve McQueen have a thing for Sharon Tate? Couldn’t figure out if that part of the movie was fact or fiction.

I don’t think he was gay so yes, he did.

Tarantino's movies have been dogshit over the last ten years or so. Let's hope there is something here....

Both Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained were in the last 10 years. I wouldn't call either of those dogshit...

Semi Dog Shit.

Anybody else notice the Don Meredith jersey Sharon Tate was wearing in the last scene when she hugged Rick?

Knowing she was from Dallas, it clicked immediately when she came out in the drive, I said that's fucking Don Meredith.

I did, too, and my wife said, Who?

Luckily, I didn't have a divorce lawyer nearby.

just got home from 35mm at the alamo

i loved it! beautiful picture. Brad was Brad, consistently cool and awesome. Leo was outstanding. i laughed throughout. Spahn Ranch scenes were heavily ominous. ending lived up to Tarantino standard.

really great movie. not sure where i place it yet... definitely above H8, Django and the grindhouse stuff.

you can feel how much he loves movies.

the ending, the last shot, did suddenly make me feel odd. the smallest of coincidences - a pissed off drunk guy yelling get off my lawn - and how different the story turned out. not sure, just made me think of 'what ifs' in life.

will watch again. definitely top tier QT.

Agree.  And the one liners from Rick F’n Dalton about the ‘buncha fuckin hippies’ are absolutely hilarious.

agree.  I thought everything about it was just fun to watch.  not really much plot, just a love letter to old hollywood and the movies.  very enjoyable.

It didn’t take place in Hollywood tho

Also just came back from a 35mm screening (and my second viewing of it) and liked it even more the second time (& was fun to focus in more on the background details this time).

Oh...and for you on here that just don’t get it, don’t fret as it occurred to me you’ll soon have a movie more your speed to watch soon - the fast and furious-rific Hobbs & Shaw!

Sorry but that was boring af and some parts were pointless.  Pitt and Leo saved it. Not nearly enough jokes that are lol, narrator was not funny. No one in the Alamo was into it.

If you crave for the long drawn out camera shots and closeups on pointless stuff like opening cans or reaching for food in fridge, then you will love it.  Could shave off 45mins.  It was all over the place. And I didn’t care for most anyone except Pitt/Leo.

Love a lot of his films but missed the good dialogue and suspense.  Last scene was more funny than anything else.

Have avoided this thread.

Just saw it. Really liked it.

Anybody catch Margot Robbie referencing the “porno” theater down the street as they went in to El Coyote?

New Beverly Cinema, owned by Quentin Tarantino. I thought that was cool.

did you go to a late viewing? we were at a 6pm showing and audience was LOLing throughout. ominous murmurs during Spahn ranch scenes, and when Manson showed up at the Polanski house. felt like our audience was on the edge of the seats...

Margaret Qualley as the hitchhiking hippy was very good too.

  Reveal hidden contents

Not unexpected, but the violence at the end was pretty brutal, with Pitt slamming the chick's head over and over and the dog going to town.

And Leo whipping out the flamethrower was great.

I thought she was excellent as well.  I didn't realize she was Andie MacDowell's daughter

It looked like they didn’t replace Tate with Robbie in those scenes when she was watching her movie but I couldn’t tell for sure.

That is correct.  She was watching Sharon Tate.

Did not know that.  If she's anything like her mother, she'll be an appreciating asset and she gets older......
