Is it all Elko/Robinson driving the northeast recruiting? I never thought I’d see the day where A&M’s base of DL recruiting is New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Yes. That's where their coaching relationships are. And who wants to work to build more relationships? Particularly when aggy will pay them whether they work or not.

It's aggy's low self esteem that makes them desperate to be liked. Not unlike fucking fat chicks.

Honestly looks better than almost any of their recent DT targets. The HUDL shows a guy with a lot to learn but a lot of effort and good athleticism. His frame looks really good if he's truly 300 pounds. I'd like to see a legit ht/wt but this guy is certainly better than a lot of the lardasses they keep seeming to target. Having said that, filling an entire side of the ball with OOS guys is a fucking ticking timebomb. There's only so many snaps and these OOS dudes aren't going to stay for 4-5 years as backups and wait their turn.

Seems early to make this move. I don't know, seems like it'd be better to see how a guy like Iwunnah develops over this coming year because he's more likely to stay in the program for 5 years and he's clearly got upside.

This has been said upthread, but developmental prospects require actual recruiting, which is something it appears they are not currently doing.

Either way, as other posters have said and I agree with, I'm pretty sure the addition to more pass-happy coaches in their league is about to buttfuck them in an epic manner if they trot out a 4 DT rotation again. And it's hard to imagine them being better with the loss of madubuike to the NFL. If Lane Kiffin and Mike Leach can manage to make some noise in year one, wow, this shit could get comically hilarious real quickly.

No worries; our tall lockdown safeties on the backend will be the perfect ace up Jimbo's sleeve against the air raid. Just wait and watch pardner.  Jimbo don't need no edge rusher when he can have a big DT bull rushing from the middle...Pythagorean theorem FTW.

Is it possible Jimbo never learned attrition risks because he didn’t have to go OOS as much when he was at FSU because everyone else was down? That and his hubris perhaps he literally doesn’t see how this is a problem?

I mean, a lot of these guys aren't highly rated or they've been steadily dropping in the rankings like Vaka and Harris.  Power Moves I guess??  It's difference between these guys and someone that's a 3* like Landen King who every blue blood from coast to coast was offering and pushing for.

No doubt. But that’s a different issue than just understanding that a glut of OOS players, even if you have a HEALTHY culture and locker room, will yield higher than normal attrition.

To be fair, all 3 recruits from the state are 5-stars on the Looch 44 (Fernando’s eval almost complete).

Jimbo Fisher has always and will always trust the evaluations of his staff over anything that the national recruiting services have to say. He isn't changing, yet still manages to churn out top-10 classes (he's finished in the top six in all but one year as a head coach) when National Signing Day rolls around. Fisher means it when he is quick to tell the media on NSD that the rankings don't matter to him and he's completely unaware of where his signees end up being graded by the 'experts.' He has a long list of guys who were undervalued at the time they committed to him at LSU and Florida State and the number is much higher than you'd expect. He's already got a couple of those guys on the roster in Aggieland, most notably promising second-year men like Ainias Smith and Andre White. Jimbo and the Aggies also landed an unheralded tight end two years ago who ended up re-writing the A&M record books en route to an All-American 2018 season in Jace Sternberger.

On Wednesday, Fisher and James Coley picked up a commit that will currently net the Aggies 'three stars' but the head coach, position coach and OC Darrell Dickey are all pretty damn fired up having just landed a tight end who, like Sternberger, was considered a priority target on the A&M big board. The reason why? Like Jace did two years ago, Katy two-sport standout Fernando Garza will step and immediately address a very specific roster need, albeit for a very different reason. It's damn near undeniable when you watch the tape and compare to other tight ends the Aggies were/are recruiting in 2020, there isn't a better blocker in Texas at the position in this class and it's not even close. Garza is a 6-5, 240-plus pound wrecking ball on the end of the Tiger offensive line, routinely sealing the edge, reaching linebackers at the second level or moving defenders off the line of scrimmage, oftentimes with devastating efficiency. He's the perfect fit not only in a tight end room that doesn't feature anything proven in the way of dominance at the point of attack but also Fisher's offense. Garza is a different breed at the position and a monster in the run game.

Because he's also a very good baseball player and a pitcher who throws in the low '90s, Fernando is also hearing from several SEC schools (including LSU) in America's favorite pastime. He'll also be getting a shot on the diamond in College Station, joining Devon Achane and perhaps one or two others eventual 2020 commits as a two-sport athlete in Maroon & White. Because he's a pitcher and so valuable to the Tiger baseball team, Garza does occasionally miss some football time in the spring, which is why there's no telling how much more a guy who is already SEC-ready in terms of his frame will fill out. Him growing into a 6-5, 260-plus pound presence as an attached tight end not only brings to mind Big 12 champion and longtime NFL tight end Dan Campbell but also some recent guys that the Aggies have had to play against in the SEC. Guys like Texas product and Alabama's Major Tennison or Morris Forristall and LSU's Foster Moreau. Two of those three reached the end zone against A&M in 2018, with Moreau hearing his name called on Draft Day. Like Moreau, Garza has very good ball skills and does a nice job of using his frame to get separation and 'box out' would be cover men.

Even though he blocks like an offensive tackle ('finisher' is the first word that comes to mind when watching his highlight tape), don't sleep on the fact that Fernando is a 240-pound athlete who can get into routes, put pressure on linebackers and safeties and catch the football. He's a well-rounded prospect who somehow managed to fly under the radar (relatively speaking) at one of the state's premier programs in a talent-rich district. After an MVP showing at one of the final regional combines of the spring (where he outperformed Texas commit and jumbo receiver Landen King), Garza's stock began to rise and his offer list quickly grew to include the likes of Virginia Tech, Michigan State, Pitt, Arizona, UCF and SMU among others. That's also right about the time Coach Coley and the Aggies began a pretty steady push towards offering, which they did on Saturday.

Fernadno wasted no time in becoming the Ags' seventh commit of the 2021 cycle and could end up being the only true tight end that the Aggies ink in December or February. If you take a careful look at the roster, the true need this go-round was to add a big, physical presence at the position - the kind of guy capable of helping the Ags do a better job of running outside than they've done either of the past two seasons. Garza fits that mold perfectly. Grandview's Dametrious Crownover is a 6-7, 270-pounder who could play on either side of the ball and could end up being the perfect compliment. If the Ags find a second tight end who they believe is an impact player, then yes. If not, the best (and most likely) path will probably involve Fisher, Coley and Co. going all in on 2022 five-star Donovon Green, a former teammate of Jalen Wydermyer at Dickinson and the nation's No. 1-ranked player at the position.

Garza's addition also gives the Aggies a presence at the powerhouse Katy program (starting kicker Seth Small is also a KHS product). This fall, the Tiger defense will feature three national top-100 caliber defenders in CB Bobby Taylor, LB Ty Kana and DE Malick Sylia so signing Fernando could eventually pay dividends for the Aggie offense, Rob Childress and A&M's '22 efforts. Speaking of, it is interesting to note that in addition to the Garza/Katy potential and the Ags having a pretty big 'in' at Dickinson with Wydermyer (Green and nationally-recruited OL Patrick Williams), A&M will have former Atascocita star Kenyon Green working perhaps the state's top prospect in former OL teammate Kam Dewberry and there's also the connection between current commit Shadrach Banks of North Shore and one of the nation's top junior cornerbacks in Mustang teammate Denver Harris. Long story short, when you're landing guys from the best programs in the Lone Star State (like Fernando Garza) it tends to help open doors.

He's technically higher rated than Landen King. Which should tell you more about the rankings services than about Garza.

Of course Looch had to throw that tidbit about the Rivals opening on King.  Yet, aggy offered King 1st after that camp and only offered Garza after missing on King and Arroyo.

I love how Looch thinks a kid from Katy, that is so "crucial" to the team's offense, i.e. running the football, would be undervalued by recruiting services. Not that Jimbo hasn't hit home runs at the position, because he has, and it's easily the best position he's recruited at aggy.

The fact remains they struck out on every other TE they offered in this class before unearthing this hidden gem, playing for one of the state's power programs less than 150 miles from their campus.

As far as the mix of OOS to instate. When most of your coaching staff has no ties to the state, and the HS coaches in the state hate you this is going to happen.

TE, supposedly a good and athletic blocker...for those that are good at the whole WATCH. THE. TAPE. thing, how does he compare to Connor Williams? Aggy eventually moves this kid to play tackle? (God knows they need something there)

Doubtful. I don’t think he has the frame for it. He’d have to have a pretty crazy growth spurt.

He also wants to double up with baseball, so I doubt he'll even want to try to add that weight.

Good God, that’s a lot of words. Guess it ain’t easy polishing a turd.

His tweet suggests he should be a great culture fit, and pick up right where Leon O'Neal whiffed.

Spoiler

4-star S Kamren Kinchens has A&M in top five

Brian Perroni

Texas A&M has been making a push into South Florida since Jimbo Fisher arrived in College Station.

Coming from Florida State, he and his staff had many ties to the area. That only became stronger when new tight ends coach James Coley was hired this offseason.

One of the Aggies' main targets in the region is Miami Northwestern four-star safety Kamren Kinchens.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound junior is also being recruited by some teams as a corner but admits his best position is likely safety. He is one of a number of national prospects the Aggies are recruiting at the spot.

On Thursday afternoon, Kinchens released his top five schools. Texas A&M made the cut.

Along with the Aggies, the other teams on the list were Auburn, LSU, Miami and Nebraska.

Kinchens has never been to Aggieland but his one-time teammate, five-star linebacker Terrence Lewis, had good things to say about it after the latter visited last summer.

"He said it's a great school and he loved the atmosphere out there," Kinchens said. "He says he wants to get back out there again soon and I want to go there too. We want to take a trip out there together."

Kinchens was supposed to make it to the Super Bowl Party in early February along with Lewis, but the duo was unable to make the trip.

In addition to Kinchens, the Aggies are recruiting another player at Northwestern in four-star wide receiver Romello Brinson. The wideout also has A&M in his favorites and was able to make it to the Super Bowl party.

There are not currently any Crystal Ball predictions for Kinchens.

In addition to Kinchens, the Aggies are targeting a few other safety prospects with Kendal Daniels from Oklahoma and Terrion Arnold of Florida included in that group. Four-star Kaine Williams out of Louisiana is still a possibility as well.

Even with the "it's just a song lyric" caveat, that's a big yikes.

Is it possible Jimbo never learned attrition risks because he didn’t have to go OOS as much when he was at FSU because everyone else was down? That and his hubris perhaps he literally doesn’t see how this is a problem?

Occam's Razor: He doesn't give a shit because his cash is guaran-fucking-teed and all he has to do is field a football team.
